I really like your videos, my friend. This game seems to have some serious issues, but the promise of a masterpiece is so painfully close. If they could iron them out. This has the chance of being the best warfare game ever developed.
Thank you, and I agree with your summary of the game. My sense is the devs are done with it. I hope they produce a new title that builds on the lessons learned in this one.
@@colestockdale5616 only they would know but they seemed to indicate all the features had been released. They’ve released only a few bug fix patches this year. If there’s more, they’re keeping it a secret.
I truly enjoy this game. It appears to be a very realistic simulation of the civil war. I have seen people complaining that the AI units will sometimes not engage or do something else that they don't want them to. This game isn't total war. Those things happened in the civil war all the time. I also like lemon and whiskey. I have spent months training and building a relationship a with the units under me and they preform much differently to unit that I am thrown into command over. I spent the first 7 months of one game in garrisons which while not a lot of fun is also very realistic.
Yeah, me too. I think you're right about the "realism" aspect. A lot of realism in the ACW was boring work. I think everyone wants their own blend of realism, challenge, and entertainment, and it's hard for one game to do all those things for all people.
@@scarecrow559fresno A matter of taste, probably, but I think so. You get a significant amount of freedom compared to Ultimate General, plus you manage the economy and policies of your side.
Have you played a whole campaign from start to finish? The whole war. This looks to be very long term and these days i´m not so sure i would be in it for the whole ride.
Yeah, almost all the ones from the last couple of years go all the way through. They used to go ~30 episodes, but this one went long. The Whiskey and Lemons campaigns are all pretty short, probably fewer than 10 episodes.
I really wanted to like this game but it's just so buggy! I put over 60 hours into it and my final straw was watching a Confederate army I had surrounded on the campaign map in the Shenandoah Valley escape by marching along the river. Not beside it; in it. It crawled along for a literal hour to get away but it survived this way. Not to mention units in battle getting stuck on bridges, couriers getting stuck for no reason at all making the orders system a waste of time, enemy units routing and charging unscathed straight through your brigades (often routing them in the process), artillery being next to impossible to site because a single tree on the map translates to a mountain blocking their view and charging cavalry deciding to stop just a few feet from an artillery or infantry unit so they can be shot to pieces. And your fleets sailing off the map toward Africa or Europe...

@@DomWeasel One thing I’m unhappy about is that a modder on Steam released 3d texture mod that was simple to download and install, and it helped with graphics. But every single time he (I presume) did, the devs released a patch that broke the mod, and the modder had to redo it from scratch. This happened on and off for six months. Here’s the kicker: the devs have only released 3 or 4 patches this calendar year, and I believe all were within a week of that modder posting the mod. The modder tried to leave the generic files on a link on Steam, and now it doesn’t work, so we’re stuck with vanilla.
This is a great game but AI can be very frustrating both on the campaign map and in battles. If your OK with those limitations, there really isn't any better Civil War game on the market.
I have my eyes on this game since it's in EA. Easy to learn and hard to master? Or hard to learn and even harder to master? I'm interested in that scenario since goold old "North & South". Had "The Civial War" PC game form 1995 (Publisher: Empire Interactive) It has a similar depth as you didn't just move armies on the map but also had do manage the economy and take care of the recruiting. It also hat some sort of real time battles. But it was difficult to learn this game, even if we talk about time where the games got sold in nice boxes with a real manual and often extra content. The game also had additional historical information in the game with pictures and music. So the only things that keeps me from buying and playing this game are the learning curve and bugs. Because the last time I checked it still had some annoying bugs, people reported. IDK what the currently status is, as it currently has an average user rating on steam, which sadly is pretty "meehhh" for a game.
It’s probably worse than both those-hard to learn and easy to master. I’m not trying to insult a game I love, but that’s the way it is. It’s hard to learn because there’s a lot of stuff on the campaign side that you think you need to do, but once you learn how little you really need to do, it’s quite manageable. When you’re complaining the AI in battle is too easy, you’ve mastered the game. I played a lot of Civil War Generals 2 on pc. I think I played a bit of the first one, two. Light in the campaign side, but the AI wasn’t bad. I claim there is a “bug lottery” in this game. I got off pretty easy, so the game is very playable for me. Others claim it’s so big-ridden for them as to be unplayable. I only know my case for certain.

There are not 200k models. The game uses sprites to approximate a certain number of “actual” men.
