Hi. We Martin & I, Shirley) love watching your videos. We are planning to go to Everest Base Camp this coming December. I am having trouble finding warm tops. Any advice on brands? Also, love your Khaki coloured daypack. Do you mind me asking you what brand it is? Thank you. Shirley
Hey! I am planning to do the EBC trekking next year, hopefully where the coronavirus issue will be part of the past. Do you think that a 70L duffel bag plus a 25L daypack will be too small? Thanks
Hey! That should be totally fine unless you’re going in winter and need to pack larger jackets/boots/heavier socks, etc... the tea houses have a ton of what you’ll need on the trek so packing light is a good idea! :)
I have to say I loved your footage of EBC and the whole journey. You guys skipped the acclimatization day, which goes against everything I have read. Did you plan to skip those days when you were planning the trip or did you make the decision each evening / morning depending on how you felt? I was impressed with the distance you covered on you way back down. Almost a marathon each day! Did you guys use any power gels or nutrition supplements for those long days on the trail? Thanks for sharing your experience.
@@stephenhaire6077 We didn't plan to skip the rest days. It wasn't advised originally. But we were making good time and feeling okay. We were also not traveling with a big group so it was really only our one guide and us gauging how we felt. We felt we could keep going knowing we had the extra day or 2 in there if we started to feel sick but it turned out okay for us. Plus, it was very cold haha so I think we were excited to get lower on the mountain again. - Thanks for watching! I never know if these videos are helpful or not or even interesting. Have you done EBC? Or is it something you are thinking about in the future?
@@martinovaj You guys have completed two of my bucket list trips! I have watched many different videos on both treks and your videos are great - both interesting and informative. Not as many videos are out there on the EBC trek in the off season which is one reason why I enjoyed yours so much. I look forward to having the time to see EBC and Kilimanjaro. Before we had kids my wife and I traveled a fair amount. Our favorite trip was backpacking through the Grand Canyon for 6 days one hot August. I think you guys had the right idea of going to EBC in the off season to see it without all of the trafic of other trekkers. My wife and I are both Canadian Army Officers so living in the cold is not too problematic for us. My main concern is the altitude, hence my questions about your rest days. We basically live at sea level and other than downhill skiing we have not spent any real time in the mountains so I am curious how big of an effect it will have. Again, thanks for sharing your experiences. I look forward to seeing your next adventure.
You can buy clothes def up to Kathmandu. I didn’t see many other shops open after that in the off months. When it’s not off season though more of the shops near the tea houses are open :)
Thank you for these awesome tips! When and where did you hire your guide? Did you hire him in advance or when you were and Kathmandu/Lukla? How much did you pay? How much did you tip? Thanks!
Hi there, I hired our guide beforehand. We used www.imperialnepaltreks.com/ and I think it was about $1200 - $1300 usd which included all hotel + tea hut accommodations, guide, as well as most food. It could have changed price wise since we went so i'd check with which ever guide company you use. I want to say we were told by other trekkers to tip about 10% of the trip cost, but I believe we tipped more because we really loved our guide. I put a video link to our trek in the description, not sure if it'd help or not to see it but it's there. :)
Nahum Eikenberry It was about 1300 usd a person but that included airport pick up, transport, the stays at the hotel and hostels and food. You will need extra money for tipping and anything additional you’d like.
I have a dream and plan to climb Everest, thanks a lot for the tips,HAKUNA MATATA!
Great tips!!

Lots of great advice. Protein and beware of soups along with pillow cases.
Did you meet anyone doing the Three Passes trek that time of year
Thank you
Thank you! You know what we didn't meet many people on our trip. Only a few who were also doing EBC.

Enjoyed your videos. What type of video camera did you use? Thanks for sharing!
Stephen Haire thanks! For this one I used a fujifilm point and shoot digital camera and the vlog video I used the fujifilm camera and an iPhone

Our guide also picked us up from the airport since we booked with them before getting to Kathmandu

Should down will be enough? Or should i take one more wind breaker.
It was really really cold! I have a video with the whole trek on it. If you skip towards the end you can see the jackets we’re in :)

I wore La SportivaTrango GTX Mountaineering Boots
May I know how much money you need to prepare?

Cutie petutie here forgets the most important tip. Don't eat yellow snow.
