- Laura has made the journey to Everest base camp 8 times. Here is her female take on what she will bring on an Everest base camp trek. There is no one size fits all so you need to understand the time of year you making the journey and adjust the gear accordingly.
If you sign up to an Ian Taylor Trekking trek we send you a 40 page dossier with an itemized kit list. We can help you pick out the right gear and help you at every stage of your planning and preparation. This is a great list of gear. Comprehensive and to the point. Nice job!
Thank you for sharing so many great tips 👍

I get cold easily at night and I’ve used a 10F western mountaineering versalite in the Eastern Sierra in winter and am still cold with base layers. I am leaving for Nepal/EBC on April 23, and ordered the Nemo sonic -20, is that too much? Figured better warm than cold. Also got that one b/c it allows for side sleeping and doesn’t look as claustrophobic as others I was looking at.
-20F will be fine for April into May. It will be too much lower down but you can keep it open. You will need to zip up from Dingbouche up.
thank you!!!
I wanto to have a marino underwear, a fleece jacket, ball jacket and a rain jacket. So 4 layers. Do you believe it is enough or should i also have a kind o ski style one?

How do you keep your contact lens solutions from freezing at night?

Boots: many people hike to EBC using trail runners or mid height trail runners. I have done that thrice. Actually I have climbed to Lho La 6000m behind EBC in ancient Adidas Oregon joggers in 1985. Trail runners are much more nimble than clumsy "ankle support" boots and less likely to sprain your ankles.
Trekking boots are always the best option. We have seen hundreds of sprains and fractures from wearing trail shoes and not a good idea. iantaylortrekking.com/blog/best-trekking-boots-everest-base-camp-trek/
Until you do sprain your ankle.
@@billsmith6884 I have walked with trail runners maybe 9 months and about 1500 km in Nepal, never strained my ankle. Nimble, nimble nimble...
@@karipintakivi9153 ...and when you do, you will understand the wisdom of ankle support.
@@billsmith6884 and until then I have jumped around like a mountain goat for over 50 years in trail runners, worth the price... Pity the draft horses in clumsy, heavy, sweaty boots.
