Jumping Position exercises develop serious core body strength, balance, endurance. It's a very low impact, high result exercise. I do it all the time, to the point of exhaustion, even 30 years after I started riding. Its an all around great exercise.
This helps a lot for someone who is just learning to jump! I'd love to see a video where jumping position is showed on horseback :)
