What's your "must bring" camera gear when you travel? *also to note one gear i forgot to mention - i bring an SD card reader with USB C, that way I can plug the SD card into that then plug it into my phone. I would then transfer the footage onto my phone, remove the SD card reader, then plug in my hard drive into my phone and transfer the footage into there. Though it's not often (I usually can just make backup copies with my extra SD cards - essentially just put two SD cards into the SD card reader, then plug into my phone, and copy and paste from there), I just wanted to mention it just in case anyone was curious.
For me, it's a zoom lens. By not having to stop to change lenses I can get more shots, a greater variety of shots, I can capture moments that will be over too quickly, and can stay in the flow of shooting and capture a more authentic representation of how the place feels. These all give more options in the edit. It depends on the style of video you're making of course, but there's a reason that ENG and DOC shooters almost exclusively use zooms.
I am so tired of seeing the "update your camera" videos to have good videos. I love that you use this old camera that is still so capable and it makes your content shine because it's you that is the creator, not the fancy gear.
Man, you truly inspired me in a way that shows it’s not about having the latest and greatest camera gear-it’s about enjoying filming and creating a unique perspective.
Man you are insanely good. I never comment on videos but I felt the need to do it. You inspire sooo many people u cannot imagine. Please keep it up and never stop. THANK YOU FOR CREATING!!!
I have the G95 and have been going back and forth if I need to upgrade to another camera outside of Lumix or even in the Lumix family but seeing the type of images a micro 4/3 produces is just hard to walk away from. Great work man.
@thereeltbell3289 thanks!! Haha essentially you just need to keep creating to practice at getting better and better - and if there's a will, there's always a way 🤟🏼 these micro 4/3 cameras pack a lot within, it's now up to you to unlock it!
really amazing footage! i find it insane what you are able to produce with a G85 and an GoPro Hero 8! Your post production process would be interesting as well!
@L0rDLuCk thank you! I think you can achieve a lot with most cameras if you can get the right lighting tbh. And yes, I'll be sharing my post-production process for sure 👍🏼
Great video! Amazing content you are producing with the G85. I own the camera myself for serveral years now and I am always thinking of upgrading to S5ii or GH7. Love your "simple" approach to film your content. I am also very interested in you post processing and making of those nice scenes with speedramping and so on.
@puffintravels thank you!! Keeping it simple is always the best, that way you can focus on the actually content/filming aspect. And yes, I'll be making some post production process videos coming up!
Dude awesome video!! I’m currently tinkering w my travel G85 setup for my next Japan trip. I gotta ask-how do you deal with lowlight situations since it’s mft and not dual iso?
G85 with f1.8 lenses is reasonable in low light up to ISO 2500, sometimes 3200 in emergencies. But streets with artificial lights like shops and traffic only need 1600 at most.
@jorenzo thank you! So for filming - i usually try to keep it under 800 iso. I use lenses that are fast - so like the panasonic 9mm f1.7 or 25mm f1.7. You'll notice that they work really well within the city, as there is a lot of street lights, building lights, etc. If you go to more remote areas with less lighting, then they work okay but not the best - you'll need to find complimentary lighting to stuff you film, and for most of the time that's going to be street lamps in those areas Film at 4k 24fps and shutter speed at 1/50.
@ Thanks for the tips! I think that 800 iso limit is an esp good rule of thumb. I've got the kit lens and the 25mm f/1.7 so I'll do some tests to see if that's enough. I'd rather bring my G85 than my S5 since it's that much smaller and more convenient
Nice, I can never find myself as a videographer although I wanted to, cannot find the balance to take photos and video, every time I travel for holiday has always been with my wife and 2 little daughters.. Please show us your video editing techniques next.. thanks
@yomamatoofat3418 hi! So yes it's definitely not easy finding that balance - but here's some insight on how I go about it when I travel with a group or family or a partner - So how I usually do it is arrive at one location, take photos of everyone in your party first so that they are happy, and then take your video/photo of what you want. I would stick with handheld and potentially utilize a zoom lens so you can be very quick with your shots. 1 wide establishing shot, maybe keep it static to be certain you get the shot, and then you can zoom in and get some complimentary detail shots. And as you leave, you can get some movement shots mixing with wide and zoomed in. I used to do this with the kit lens. Hopefully that gives some insight! And yes - i will be sharing my editing techniques in my future vids!
@ali78tahir 25mm f1.7 is a great start and for most purposes. "Cinematic" settings - essentially just have natural picture profile, and make sure you are properly exposed. Then it's all up to your composition
@laksh.mp4 ah yes - so one gear i forgot to mention - i bring an SD card reader (usually has both SD and micro SD card reader) with USB C, that way I can plug the SD card into that then plug it into my phone. I would then transfer the footage onto my phone, remove the SD card reader, then plug in my hard drive into my phone and transfer the footage into there. Though it's not often (I usually can just make backup copies with my extra SD cards - essentially just put two SD cards into the SD card reader (one regular and one micro), then plug into my phone, and copy and paste from there). I haven't found a hub that works on android phone just yet to have both SD reader and Hard drive so I'll update if I ever do find one - or if anyone else has suggestions feel free to add their thoughts! Hope that helps!
@kyelight that's true! Sometimes it's nice to diversify and bring some other gear so it keeps things more interesting for yourself - or at least that's how I personally feel at this point. But I think for starting out, the less you have, the better - that way you can focus on getting good at the basics and knowing what your preferences are.
how do you use your phone to off load the data from card to hard drive..does the hard drive have a port for the card and where does the phone come in to play? thanks
@neightberry i bring an SD card reader with USB C, that way I can plug the SD card into that then plug it into my phone. I would then transfer the footage onto my phone, remove the SD card reader, then plug in my hard drive into my phone and transfer the footage into there. I don't recall the brand as I think I bought it in a local camera shop in Tokyo - perhaps you can check aliexpress to see if they might have something similar. But I'll also see if I can find that info, and I'll update you if I do find out.

The less extra stuff you have, the less you focus on the equipment and the more you focus on what is in front of the camera.
