I love this method of marking! Marking is part of the reason I haven't done any free motion quilting. I'm legally blind and with all the color changes on front I can't see the marks. This will really make a big difference for me. Thank you for showing this technique Laura I really appreciate it.

Wow this is absolutely fantastic! I am a beginner quilter for about a year now and I have put together quilts Only to leave them sitting because I was afraid to do the quilting on top of them. I think I’m going to make me some more practice squares and do this method. Thank you so much for your wonderful videos.

Just dive in. Its initially intimidating, but with each quilt you will become braver & more successful. You made beautiful tops. Now you need to quilt them & enjoy them. Good luck!

I have been practicing my free motion quilting with mixed results. May need to look at some templates for that more professional look. Thank you once again for the inspiration and for not making us newbies feel inadequate.

I love the finish line series. I learn so much! Thank you for explaining processes and details so clearly, and for then following up the verbal instructions with a clear hands on video demonstration. I’m such a visual learner. I appreciate you sharing all the tips and tricks of what has worked for you and what hasn’t from your experiences. So helpful. Your voice is also very calming. Be well. ❤️

When I use a stencil, I use a pounce pad with chalk to transfer the marks. I have found if I spray the quilt lightly with water BEFORE and AFTER I use the pounce pad, the chalk does not disappear quite so quickly. For a small project like this, it would be ideal...and FAST!

Hi Laura. I hope you are having a blessed day. Thank you for the video. This will be very helpful for beginners. This is fantastic information as quilting can be very intimidating. It’s one thing to piece a quilt top, but it’s altogether a different kind of beast when it’s time to quilt . Thank you again for this amazing video. God loves you. May God continue to bless you.

Wow! You are a great teacher! I saw those templates at quilting stores in my area, but I had no idea on how to use them. Now I do! And, as for the upside down way of quilting, what a wonderful idea! I never would have thought of doing it that way! You gave this "confident beginner" encouragement, to try new things! Thank you for making my day much brighter!

Laura thank you for full explanations and showing why a step is important. My sister and I are both beginners and have learned so much from your videos. You give us the courage and enthusiasm to try it. I’m starting a table runner this week and I’m going to try the Fail Proof quilting on that one, but I see the Upside Down Backwards quilting in my future. Can’t wait to see the next video. Blessings to you.

Wow, this video is super helpful, and I was delighted that you showed the Sew Fast 3-yard quilt pattern from Fabric Cafe (time stamp 11:47) using the technique. Thanks to your video on that pattern, I have the blocks done and just need to assemble the top. I had no idea how I was going to quilt it. I've seen qulting templates in stores but wasn't sure how to use them. With this "twofer" video you've given me the confidence to use a template to mark my quilt AND combine it with your upside down technique.
    Thank you, Laura!

OMG!!! Thank you so much Laura! I have a table topper that I made years ago that has the same colors as this runner in it and have been trying to figure out for years how to quilt it on my sewing machine. Awesome! I have to admit the thought of marking and quilting from the back has occcured (in a very vague way) to me but since I'm kinda new to FMQ I thought I'd be breaking some kind of rule!🙄 I have since decided not to worry so much about rules! Thank you for sharing... especially about directional stencils!

I made a scrappy nine patch quilt that had 30 different prints in it.. and did exactly what you said you did .. changed my marking pencils up, for each and every color of that quilt. I wish I had a plain backing to mark on..but no. I used a camoflauged print.. so, the marks woul not have shown up on the backing, either. The quilt turned out beautiful, of course, but what a chore it was to quilt it.

how fantastic once again!! Another tip I mentioned before to remove marks is to put one tsp of baking soda in a cup of water. Shake in a spray bottle or mister and marks disappear (as long as heat hasn't been applied first). This video reminded me that I have a book called "Quilting Back to Front" , "Fun and Easy No-Mark Techniques" by Larraine Scouler, C&T Publishing that I'll have to get out and read. Thanks for what you share!! Cheers 🇨🇦🍁💐
