Great version! Sweet was an awesome band who are grossly underrated. They had pop hits and genuine hard rockers that helped form the metal of the future. They often get ovelooked or dismissed but they were kick ass musicians.
Sweet were definitely proto-metal. :) Listen to Action (the song) and No You Don't (the song). These are both sizzling tracks of pure heavy metal. Action is pretty much a thrash tune in structure and delivery. And No You Don't just jams so hard...it's the song that really got me into them heavy. The production on that track is super wicked. And even the pop songs, like Blockbuster and Teenage Rampage, are punk level subversive in their lyrical intent. So they may have been a "sweet" pop band (pun intended), but they still jammed as hard as anything at the time and really foreshadowed bands like Motley Crue, Twisted Sister, etc years ahead of that scene.
I remember seeing this video on Headbangers Ball then going out and buying the ALBUM the next day. I hate getting old. Why are my favorite songs from my youth on "classic"? Oh well, least I lived this long.
I hear ya man! I was 13 in 1980 when all the "old school metal"really was the "New" Wave Of British Heavy Metal, not to mention all the other killer "raw" metal bands from around the world! God I miss the 80's! But there is still lots of good hard rock and metal coming out. Airbourne, Danko Jones, The Glorious Sons, Monster Truck are great new(er) awesome hard rock bands! I don't think we'll ever get the, what I call raw metal, of the early 80's back(think Metallica's 1st album and early Dianno led Maiden) as everything is so slickly produced nowadays, but there is still some great stuff coming out and we aren't all stuck being subjected to the no instrument pop garbage of the last 15 years!
l ,m 59 years old, grew up with listening to the sweet. They had something very special and powerful in their music.light years away with their heavy stuff ,still gives me a big buzz.Heathen,s metal style is addictive and 100% talented. The Sweet never fails to amaze us all.
I heard this (killer) version of "Set Me Free" long before I heard Sweet's original. When I finally got to hear their version I was pretty much blown away by how heavy and hard-rockin' it was! Those guys may have started out as Glam Rock "bubblegum" music but they definitely didn't finish their career that way! Needless to say,I became a Sweet fan pretty soon after hearing "Set Me Free"!
Heathen were, and are such a great band. Sweet was also a killer (and overlooked line Heathen) band, so it was fitting that these guys covered a killer tune from another bad ass band.
that whole "hair-bangin" thing may be a bit outdated, but if you close your eyes, the music is top-notch perfect... styles may change, but great metal is immortal.
15 years dead now. Mike Jastremski... RIP, man and be a part of the "greatest bassists big-band". Whith Phil Lynott, Cliff Burton, Lemmy and whoever is worthy to follow you...
A lot of Sweet's non-commercial tracks are like Deep Purple goes glam (Ritchie Blackmore once jammed with them in the 1970s and certainly influenced guitarist Andy Scott).
Rack, ball and chain Feel just the same Hands on the wall Maybe you’re just playing games Set me free Hung by a hound, Ganging around Is this for real I don’t know when I’ll be found Set me free Set me free Set me free from you Taken by force By you of course Far from my bed Maybe I’ll feel better dead Set me free Set me free Set me free from you Fire in my brain Burn me insane Making your mark Don’t leave me here in the dark Set me free Call me a saint That’s what I ain’t Inside my head I know I’d rather dead Set me free Set me free Set me free from you
🥅🏑⛸🏒⛸️🗣️🗯️FLYBOYS🌬️🗯️FLYGUYS! Lee Altus, our Philly Flyer's Bullies beat the our Metropolitan division rivals the Isles yesterday game three 4-3 OT, let's orange crush the Islands again in game 4 today @4pm San Francisco time zone, let's go all the way Flyers Lee!
Yeah and Mustaine disses Glam. This is a cover from a Glam band of the 70s, Sweet. definitely was an influence of Thrash's. The harmony solo (which is true to the original) sounds like Maiden.
Yes, this proves Thrash is influenced by Glam.... and here thrashers cut on Glam. The solo in this tune definitely sounds like Maiden. Im sure Maiden were influenced by Sweet, for sure.
Saxon cover this song a bit before Heathen and never got anywhere with it! @anikki111 If you find a DeLorean DMC-12 capable of taking you back to the 80s, let us know, please, cuz I bloody miss it!
Saxon's was the 1st I heard for a few years. Then a buddy clued me in it was Sweet who did the original. Saxon's version suits them to a T as it EXACTLY captures their style of music, especially in the mid 80's. It's my favorite version so far, although Sweet's and Heathen's versions are great too. Just noticed Stryper did a version. It's off to listen to it now! And ya, God I miss the 80's!
Everyone has their favorite version. Saxon's was the first I heard for a few years before a friend told me Sweet was the original.I'm liking all the versions, but, as Saxon is my favorite band, I love the way they did it. Not that it matters, but do you know (guess I could look it up too) what year these guys did it? Saxon's was '84 on the Crusader release.
Saxon's version was the first one I ever heard and thought it was their own tune for a few years until a friend told me otherwise. I just saw Stryper's cover listed on the side panel today. Going to have a listen now!
Great version! Sweet was an awesome band who are grossly underrated. They had pop hits and genuine hard rockers that helped form the metal of the future. They often get ovelooked or dismissed but they were kick ass musicians.
Juan Ramirez can you give some examples of less poppy songs?
Listen to the LP's Desolation Blvd, and Give us a Wink, there are some pretty heavy tunes on those (relatively speaking).
Sweet were definitely proto-metal. :)

Ahh this brings back such good memories of when Metal was awesome!
Dude It Really WAS Awesome!
Right on.Metal like this always stands the test of time \m/ \m/
+Bob Hittelman Fuck yes
Metal's still awesome. Just gotta go through lots of not so awesome stuff. Still even at it's worst I'd rather listen to any metal than some pop shit.
I remember seeing this video on Headbangers Ball then going out and buying the ALBUM the next day. I hate getting old. Why are my favorite songs from my youth on "classic"? Oh well, least I lived this long.

i felt exactly the same way
ME TOO
Only discovering Sweet now, always managed somehow to overlook them all these years.
Ignore their singles A-sides. Listen to a song like Man From Mecca (ua-cam.com/video/a_3vvo6Ebb4/v-deo.html) instead, and be blown away!
Brian Reddish Hell yeah! Same here man!!! Dig Saxon's version as well.....just not as heavy as this!!!
I still have this classic ''87 cassette.
Love this album. 🤘❤️🤘
Agreed. Breaking the Silence is a true gem. For those that know...
Take me to the 80's PLEASE !
Heathen were, and are such a great band. Sweet was also a killer (and overlooked line Heathen) band, so it was fitting that these guys covered a killer tune from another bad ass band.
потрясающее исполнение!
This version kicks ass 110%.😀👍🤘🎸
Gooooooooood!!!!
This song will always bring good memories , this version or the original version from sweet, my era 70s n 80s.
R.I.P. To one of our hometown boys YAZ "Mike" shredding that bass. 🍻🍻
R.I.P. Yaz me and my family knew Yaz pretty good.
que buen grupo tenia tiempo sin escucharlo !!!! \m/
They put on a great show
that whole "hair-bangin" thing may be a bit outdated, but if you close your eyes, the music is top-notch perfect... styles may change, but great metal is immortal.
Headbanging is never outdated.
Beats the hell out of today's goofy clown styles.
Man, I hope they'll survive these hard times. Looking forward to more new material. \m/
The best cover!!!!!!
great cover ... !!!
Yes. Came out in 1974 by Sweet.
15 years dead now. Mike Jastremski... RIP, man and be a part of the "greatest bassists big-band". Whith Phil Lynott, Cliff Burton, Lemmy and whoever is worthy to follow you...

Beyond EPIC
Tremendo cover hacia una excelsa banda de culto \m/
A lot of Sweet's non-commercial tracks are like Deep Purple goes glam (Ritchie Blackmore once jammed with them in the 1970s and certainly influenced guitarist Andy Scott).
Love the video
Heathen rules \m/
at least you lived in the good old days...
yeah, that was awesome
best solo ever
Brians solo is best

Classic!
Coroner by far IMO
memory lane
Rack, ball and chain
Feel just the same
Hands on the wall
Maybe you’re just playing games
Set me free
Hung by a hound,
Ganging around
Is this for real
I don’t know when
I’ll be found
Set me free
Set me free
Set me free from you
Taken by force
By you of course
Far from my bed
Maybe I’ll feel better dead
Set me free
Set me free
Set me free from you
Fire in my brain
Burn me insane
Making your mark
Don’t leave me here in the dark
Set me free
Call me a saint
That’s what I ain’t
Inside my head
I know I’d rather dead
Set me free
Set me free
Set me free from you
No. Gagged balled and chained, feel just the same, then you are correct until mauled by a hound, hanging around balance is correct.
rip mike yaz!!!
Fuckin awesome sweet cover ....
3:25 holy shit! What are those strings? I've never seen such loose strings.
3:20 EPIC
Wow===🎶🎶just found this Version... Vince Neil's version was great.also 🎵🎵🎤
Perkl Kunnon meiniki 👍👍

Danke Heathen für die Suppoort von Sweet und Exodus
rockin good shit bros ..\m'..
produced by Ronnie Montrose!
LOL my friend Doug P. on guitar.
Also Saxon's is great...

Stryper recently did a killer cover of this song too. :)
Yes, this proves Thrash is influenced by Glam.... and here thrashers cut on Glam. The solo in this tune definitely sounds like Maiden. Im sure Maiden were influenced by Sweet, for sure.
You can hear Anthrax, Overkill, Megadeth, Slayer covering Twisted Sister, Wasp, Motley Crue, Kiss, Def Leppard...
Saxon cover this song a bit before Heathen and never got anywhere with it!

then saxon covered it, which was good, but I loved this version the best

look up Hypnotized
This is pretty dagum good, but I still prefer stryper's version. Everyone go check it out!

fucking rad man!!!!!
Oh damn, I thought it was an original by Saxon
Wasn't this glam before? :D
don't forget Coroner
Not as good the Sweet's version but it's ok
? Thats the only one I remember hearing.
Dolph zigler .. is that yo ?
3:10, that phil demmel?
you should listen to TOXIK, HEXENHAUS, DYOXEN… Better technical thrash bands
DOLPH ZIGLER singing metal lol
I'm afraid not, Anthrax did the best cover ever with their version of Antisocial, originally by the french hard rock band Trust.
more like the split second after 3:09
Oh wow, back when San Fran wasn't filled with homeless people poo. How nice!
The scene cuts too fast, but i'm 90% sure that's him, lol.
The singer looks a mix between Layne Staley and "The Milfhunter" xD
this is cool but Saxon did a way better job at this cover
SAXON!!
oogle boogle Saxon the best band in the world. My favorite
I disagree, this is closer to the original while having their og sound. Saxon had to change things to do it their way.
they are great, but its not as classic and good as heathen
Death Angel is way more technical than this. But Heathen is one of the best. Long live metal.
у Sweet круче)
Great song but not perfect like says , and the drummer sucks , no effects , I give it a 2 out of 10 . Lol...
Ok grandpa lol
Very easily, considering, Metallica(wait for it.....3....2......1.) SUX!
Coroner by far IMO
don't forget Coroner
Coroner by far IMO
