Wow... I was 16 when I saw these guys play with Slayer, Metal Church, D.R.I., and BL'AST! at the Grand Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles in 1986. This was the first concert I ever went to. First time I've ever saw a slam pit... and I'm pretty sure it was the vocalist from BL'AST!, who climbed up the rafters and onto the P.A. speakers, proceeded to address the crowd, and then performed a stage dive just as the song was about to finish...
While he was midair, the song finished abruptly, and all we heard was a huge *_THUD_* then a bunch of "oooh!"'s came from the crowd... when he eventually made it back up to the stage, his whole head was covered in blood - and he finished the show! Man, that was SO punk rock!
Overkill tore it up, just as all the other bands did! Man... good times!
I saw D.R.I., Metal Church but Anthrax was with them in 87. Great show
May of 84 West Orange NJ. I was a junior in high school. It was a Friday and I was supposed to see a battle of the bands that my buds were in play in it at the other high school in town. I cut school and went fishing and was caught by my father who I was living with at the time. Threatened to kick my ass and said no way I was going that night. Dragged me to a bar in Orange and after a few drinks lightened up and said I could go. I don’t remember who won that battle of the bands but what I do remember was Overkill was there. Holy shit I never forgot that. Great times.
80s metal is the best genre of all time. Still listening to it til this day.

I met Bobby Ellsworth when I was 14,that was 1988,OverKill were playing some gigs in Atlanta,He happened to be at Record Bar at Town Center Mall here in Metro Atlanta area.
One of The most down to earth,Cool Dudes You'll ever come across.That moment still remains current in my mind 24 years later.

They did a small club gig in my hometown. Nearly no security, they let us unleash ourselves. After 2 hours of moshpitting and stagediving, this was the last song of the night. Epic concert. Never forget.
Overkill, especially D.D. has a reputation for disliking security beating and shoving kids for stagediving and moshing. Love the Overkill guys, always very open and kind to us.

I am 36 and grew up to this and other thrash metal gods. My mom thought I was evil resurected at the time but now we sit back drink beer and rehash good times. Thrash metal allowed me to survive akward middle school years when all the posers listened to that pop bullshit. Long live thrash.

The closest to bellow average album theirs was the killing kind from 1996 but even then it's perfect compare to stuff like st. Anger, risk, diabolos in musicas or the threat is real.

By the late 80s beginning of 90s I live in a small room whit my late grandpa he was dying of lung cancer,,,I got this big technic stereo, sounds great I buy vinyl records,, and I put takin over both sides with the volume till the top ,,grandpa was so greeeeaat and such a nice person,,, he wants to lay down and rest because the pain,,but he act like it was ok and stay with me until I finish listening to all I want ,,,but I was a kid and now I feel bad ,,,he never takes any treatment he drink a buffering it was like tylenol, over the counter medications but we know ah eficema and lung cancer pain it's so brutal, I just can imagine hes pain and I just you know guys I don't know what im. An all time classic from the early 80s here! First song I ever heard of theirs, and you have to love the lyrics with the positive message of union in the face of adversity. Note that Blitz SINGS this whole thing, cleanly and coherently, no screaming or growling, and makes all the new school weenies sound as lame as they all are. METAL FOREVER! At age 42 I can still relate, believe me. \m/

Totally agree with your comment. I have loved Overkill since 1987 when i came across their album 'TAKING OVER' and have bought everything of theirs ever since. I have to admit that since Bobby Gustafson has left they seemed to off lost that certain sound that they had , but that does not take anything away from the fact that i believe that the big four SHOULD of included them.
I love the Iron Maiden style of this song. Overkill are the fucking masters.

I am grown up in the arsehole of the world, in the Soviet Union. Once I bartered (it was entirely illegal) soviet souvenirs for a cassette with Overkill and AC/DC from American tourists. Since then this song is always with me :)
This whole Album is really good.
I loved how he sounded in The Years of Decay, easily their best album, and unlike most Thrash vocalists who lose their voice Blitz still sounds great.
It is quiet amazing how when you scroll through out UA-cam, then an old favorite pops up. Overkill here still sounds bad ass!
