I’ve been flowing for 3 year. Advanced ropeflow gives you superior agility and coordination. I coach student athletes and I leave them shaking their heads when I demonstrate ropeflow. Definitely underrated!
I was so stoked to see you not only cover this but find out that you're doing it everyday! Finding rope flow has been the missing link that has tied a lot of things together for me. I use it for 1-2 of my zone 2 sessions each week. I love the fact that I can work on my upper body mobility, get into a flow state, get some sunlight and grounding all at the same time. Not to mention that unlike most cardio (running, rowing, biking), there is ZERO lower body interference. It's just fantastic and I'm thrilled to see a big youtuber like you giving this some shine!
I ordered a Flow Rope during the lockdown (when shipping worldwide slowed to a crawl). By the time it arrived (2 months later) I'd totally lost interest in it and was all-in on kettlebells. Time to dig it out of the closet...

Never saw this done with a heavy thick rope... This looks fantastic and the points about decompression were brand new to me... I'm very interested in learning this when I have more space.
@@NsimaInyang You know what... You're right... That thick rope won't be affected wind and rough outdoor surfaces as much as things are with my thin wire rope...
These are from thestrongerhuman.store/pages/winding-ropes I’m using the great white shark and the black whale in this video. I’ve got heavy ropes and lighter flow ropes here
Clutch. been using these with clients in therapy now for a couple years.. Most everyone loves it, young and old. Thanks for helping to bring the “play” back into movement. 🤙
Small things like this is what I look for. Body mechanics. How can I use the human body especially with our physical limitations to be better at my movements. I think specifically this could help understanding of torque into striking. The spine and hips is very important in generating power from short distances, in kung fu it’s called fa jin. This movement helps show you fa jin.
@@NsimaInyang yes that’s what I mean, the hip and spine movement teaches you to whip in your strikes, be it kicks or punches or even takedowns with more efficient power. In Chinese martial arts they do exercises like this. Actually I just got done from the gym and was using a big heavy rope to do some of these workout lol. My back, scapulas, shoulders, and hips feel activated and I’m drenched in sweat. This was honestly a really good exercise that has so many teaching benefits imo 🔥🔥🔥
This makes me wonder if Nunchaku practice can simulate and stimulate the same dynamic fluidity training. I will be doing a Nunchaku session later with these movements in mind and test the theory.
It can be! The difference would be that the nunchaku have a stopping point when practicing. Obviously as you improve your skill, there's less moments of stoppage, but the fluidity is very different.
I always suggest one flow rope and one heavy rope. So any flow rope of your choice and then an entry level heavy rope like the ghost shark or orange shark.
You’re a Gem Nsima Thank you for the pro rope skills. I’ve been working with Qui Gong Tai Qui for 40 years and often wonder why it is that these beautiful healthful arts haven’t been incorporated into other fitness activities. What’s your thoughts on the “Tea Cups” for a dynamic flow activity?
The tea cups are probably great for the shoulder! A good skill. I think there's more movement options with the rope, but the tea cup practice is great to learn!
@@NsimaInyang Yeah great for shoulder mobility. Tea cups can also be opened up to wider rangers of motion using full flexion extension and rotation. Both hands differing directions, on your feet on your toes. I love how the rope creates torsion and helps shift weight. The rope is a winner. Thanks for showing how elegant and optimal rope practice can be. Love the real content you’re putting it Nsima.
Great recomendations but I'm not sure where you get "it's entirely preventable" from! Backpain can be prevented by improving strength, fitness, and lifestyle habbits, but not ENTIRELY, some backpain is caused by things that are not optional like genetics, autoimmune disorders, traumatic injuries, over exercising for sport, spinal infections, all sorts of things other simply being sedentary! For everyone else who is unable to entirely prevent back pain, keep doing what you can! Movement truly can make a huge difference to quality of life even if you can't prevent back pain (or any other pain).
@@NsimaInyang yessss. Love that you get it hahaha Honestly, really want to get into rope flow now. It looks like this will restore mobility in my midback and lower back as well. Got SI issues like a mfer so it took me out of training muay thai. Hoping this gets me back in the game.
Sir, this is amazing I practice POI flow and am thinking about an intermidiate flow/strength program with slightly weigthed POIs havent seen any1 try it. This seems amazing though! i've been thinking more and more about flow arts as a way to train flexebility and also (maybe) strength? kinda like indian maces but a rope with a moderate weight at the end making you resist centrifugal forces from the spin, the faster the spin the more you have to resist, while still training exercice form with lighter ones...
I'm willing to bet you'll find these patterns in traditional Kung Fu. There is nothing new under the sun, but bringing back these patterns to the new generation will help in better movement and health. Thank you
Oh of course, but that's the beauty of this. You find these patterns in Kung Fu, Tai Chi, Grappling, Swimming, Running, Sprinting. You can work these patterns with the rope through a low intensity practice. That's why I love it!
Thank you. I went out and bought a rope off Amazon. Fell in love with the exercise immediately. But question. The rope I have seems a little long. How to you optimize the length for your height. I 5'10" so didn't expect the rope I ordered to be long...or at least seems too long. I think this is must for some one mid-50s who want to accident proof themselves.
I reckon this can be achieved as well to some extent trhu nunchaku, staff, rope dart and meteorhammer, as well, right? :) If you emphasise on the spinning patterns. Generally, I think it's nice to move diversely and thus keep the spine and back moving, animal crawls, locomotion patterns nad such. :)
Flow ropes feel better and smoother than a jump rope. You CAN use a jump rope, but it won’t be as enjoyable. A rope is generally 1 purchase for a VERY long time. So all things considered, not a huge investment for the use you’ll get out of it.
Hey! In this video I’m using the black whale and great white shark from my website thestrongerhuman.store , these are heavy ropes. I usually suggest people start with the ghost shark or the orange shark for an entry level heavy rope
Cool exercise before and after work to keep fluids moving. What do you think of mace ball exercises, your basically doing all these movements while under varying loads.
Maces are cool, I use em every now and then. I prefer heavy ropes to maces personally, but that’s just my preference. When using heavy rope, the grip gets taxed quick! As I get into mace work more maybe that’ll change.
Alright you’ve sold me. I feel these rotational movements will help with Muay Thai. Should I start with the 750g rope or will I quickly regret not going heavier?
The ghost shark or the orange shark are the best “entry level” heavy ropes. I typically suggest one entry level heavy rope, and one lighter flow rope for much lighter flows. Then when you gain experience you can get a very heavy rope. On my site I have a section that shows the flow ropes, and section that shows heavy ropes
That is fascinating. Never even occurred to me to use this modality. So if someone is already experiencing back pain, this exercise is not counter productive, one just has to start easy and progress?
I think you can do the same thing with (shadow)boxing? When you make upercuts in a fluid continues way it's almost the same movement you make with the ropes.
It absolutely is, there’s a martial aspect to the rope. A main difference of the rope vs normal shadow boxing is the momentum that the rope provides. As you do it, you’ll improve at following the flow and momentum of the rope. That’s where the decompression benefits come from. It also teaches the person practicing how to shift weight. Of course you can do this in shadow boxing, but it’s not something that comes natural to many, and it’s a hard thing to learn if you’re not an athlete.
I've never tried training with rope like this. My back could use the help but I'm also curious how it does for the knees and shoulders? I've had minor nagging pains there that I havent been able to fix for the life of me. Rehab programs help but dont solve it fully. My suspicion is that it's because I'm following "programs" and not just hitting a huge variety of diverse movements all the time like I would've in times past just working to live.
The rope will be massively helpful. It begins in a very simple/gentle fashion, but as your movement ability improves you'll also become more comfortable moving into deeper ranges of not just your upper body, but your hips, knees, etc. It truly feels like play!
@@NsimaInyang alright, you're convincing me. I don't do any play and know it's what I need. But I'm also the type that needs some "structure" on how to play (it's kinda twisted haha). I plan to give your program a try and edit: just ordered a starter bundle to get going with 👍. It does look fun!
do you have a tutorial video on how to make DIY rope. Like can I go to a hardware store or ask a friend that owns a boat to give me a rope they don't use. Like how much should it way how long should it be relative to my body.
In the group I do, join it in the description of the video. You can get 10-11 feet of rope from Home Depot for 11 bucks or so. The heaviness and quality of the ropes isn’t the same as what I have in my site, but it’s something that will help you get started 👊🏾.
I have some messed up rotator cuffs from older martial arts injury and side sleeping. This very much interests me. I know this is not to bulk up but I am curious about more resistance. I suppose longer heavier rope combined with the centrifugal force is the resistance. Could this be done with chain?
I really hope you guys give this practice a shot, shoot any questions you have in the comments!
@@NsimaInyang thanks boss
That is fascinating. Never even occurred to me to use this modality. So if someone is already experiencing back pain, this exercise is not counter productive, one just has to start easy and progress?
Start slow and easy, then progress. Yes
@@NsimaInyang thanks!
How long is the rope at 2:19? Thanks 🙂
Maybe 9 feet?
Hi great vid. Looking to make our own flow rope. My height is 5' 10" and I'm not sure of rope you. How long should we make it?? Thanx
Make yours 9-10 feet 👊🏾
💣another banger !
Thank you 🙏🏾 😂
do you have a tutorial video on how to make DIY rope.
@@NsimaInyang Just what I wanted to know...
I have some messed up rotator cuffs from older martial arts injury and side sleeping. This very much interests me. I know this is not to bulk up but I am curious about more resistance. I suppose longer heavier rope combined with the centrifugal force is the resistance. Could this be done with chain?
It can be, just doesn’t feel as smooth as heavy rope
