    "The goal is not to hit the middle of the target, the goal is to make a clean shot". Great info sir. Thank you!

    A few years ago, I had a terrible experience with target panic (TP). One of the archers/coaches at my local shop told me to try blind bale shooting or closing my eyes when executing my shot. The process was somewhat as you described in your approach.
    I was about 3-4 yards from the target, focused on the feel of the shot and tried to develop good muscle memory for executing a fundamentally sound shot. I did this for about 500-600 shots and it helped break the habits that I had formed which were causing my TP.

    A big reason for getting 'Target Panic' is shooting when you are fatigued & your arms are tired. Great video & advice!! 👍

    This works. I had terrible TP. After reading a book by Bernie Pellerite called "Idiot proof archery" I fixed it shooting with a hinge release and LOTS of blank target practice close up. I advise everyone, TP or not, to practice shooting at blank targets as much as possible. Getting your shot sequence and feel right is everything.THE worst thing a new archer can do is start off aiming at targets and scoring all the time. The inevitable result of this is recurve archers seizing up on the clicker, and compound archers punching the trigger or holding low etc. It can happen to anyone and probably will if not prevented in the first place.

    Such a good video. I loved loved loved archery for years but developed a horrible case of target panic. I just couldn’t seem to get past it and I actually stopped shooting as a result. I didn’t enjoy it any more so put away my favorite hobby of my life. I may pick it back up now and give it another go.

    Jesus Christ man thank you so much. I’ve been shooting bows since I was 8 and bowing hunting for 20 years now. The last couple years I developed a severe case of TP. I freeze above the target then snap the pin down and punch them he trigger. It’s so frustrating to work so hard and keep shooting and shooting but see no real improvement. I’ve missed and wounded deer because of this and it’s really shaken my confidence. I’m going try your method and get back to my old form. Thanks again!

      Yeah man target panic is an ugly monster. Removing the sight helps a ton in terms of being able to focus on the execution. If you really want to beat it. Shoot that way for at least 3 weeks until you don't even really have to think about it anymore. When you ge to the point where you're more focused on staring at the X than executing the shot, put your sight back on. Eventually your release will be more subconscious

      I bought a carter evolution and took my sight off the bow. Yesterday I was still a little jumpy. I stiffed up the spring and today I fired off about 20 perfect shots in a row with no anticipation at all. I couldn’t believe it. I know it’s going to take a lot more work on my part but it’s very encouraging to see. Thank you for your help dude.

    I have learned so much watching your videos. Thank you. I'm anticipating shooting my bow again soon. It's hard to shoot when the temps are close to triple digits.
    Wish you had a shop here in north central Arkansas

    Buy a Stan Perfex Resistance. It cured my daughters target panic in about 2 days. We tried everything you talk about for months but to no avail. Since the Perfex Resistance works off of tension (it is NOT a hinge) there is nothing the archer can touch or do to force the shot. I made a comment on another video (GREAT videos by the way) and I wish you would do a review on this wonderful product. It was worth every penny to my daughter and we have never looked back.

    Love from the Uk man. So, I took up archery 18 years ago, and within a year won several competitions as a junior recurve archer, even representing my county in the London Youth Games (I didnt win that lol).. but I was doing so good. Then about 2 years in I couldnt hit a barn door. It was embarrassing.
    I would draw, and my pin would be way above the boss, off target altogether. My arm was frozen, I couldnt move at all. I had to violently drop my bow arm and release and hope the arrow hit the target.. it never did.
    I tried drawing back with my pin near or on the target, but I physically couldnt even draw back to my anchor without letting go! I’d let the arrow go before I was at full draw, impulsively.
    I went home, loaded an arrow, drew back perfect and could aim at a fleas asshole at any distance perfectly.
    Put me infront of a target when I knew I could or would release, and I couldnt do it.
    I quit because 16 years ago as a kid, I had no idea what TP was, and no one in my club recognised it either. It wasnt very well known.
    I’m now 33. I’m 2 sessions in (weekly) of getting back into archery.
    I’m doing exercises at 20 yards or less with and without a sight. Sometimes drawing up, aiming then coming down, practicing floating on the ‘gold’ and letting go when I want to, not when TP snaps me into doing it.
    Its a long road, but man it felt good last Saturday to actually be able to draw back and aim on a target and hold it there. So good.

    Another great thing you can do to stop target panic is to get yourself a good single pin sight. That way there is less cluttering your sight picture.

    • @InsideOutPrecision

      Yeah, but it usually comes right back after a few arrows. Target panic is all mental, there isn't really any one "thing" you can buy to get rid of it.

    I sort of do the same thing, but to lazy to remove my sight so in the first phase, I blind bale at 5 yards, then follow the rest of your steps. Good video and instructions!

    Kellen, Super instructional videos! I have a question about the release process. I've read lots about this topic, and I've watched many instructional videos, but I'm still rather confused. Many people seem to be saying that once you hit your back wall using an index release, you should then place the trigger behind the 2nd knuckle of your index finger (or alternatively, the fleshy pad between the first and 2nd knuckle) and continue to "pull through" using back tension to trigger the release without moving your trigger finger. In this case, the finger simply functions as a hook around the index finger while your back muscles do the work. In contrast, you advocate squeezing the trigger with the index finger. Am I mistaken? Could you clarify? Once again, I really find your videos extremely helpful. Thank you!

    Thank you for this video. Is there any benefit to a stacked bow sight where the pin illumination can be decreased in bright sunlight? How about changing from a 0.019 to a 0.010 pin? I find accepting the obscuring of the target by the pin to be difficult.

    Hey there, I really like your videos... Is there a way I can send you a little clip of me shooting? Would like to have you watch my Form. In my club I'm the only compound shooter and archery itself in Germany has not that big community like in the US.

    All shooting drills that relieve tp are LOW gradient. So must be Tp is caused by shooting at too high a gradient. At too high a gradient the subconscious will attempt to help you. This "help" is what we know as Target panic. I used to jump from high spots into the lake. I knew it was safe. The subconscious would freeze me making Jumping hard to do at times. We've all had this happen. The subconscious at times isn't very logical. That's the problem. The illogic of the subconscious can be seen in many areas of life other than archery. But overall the subconscious does exist and it was put there for the purpose of help.

    This will also work as a recurve archer right? I’ve been trying that out for a little bit and it seems like the method does apply to recurve archers with no peep.

    Do you have any suggestions on how to combat shot anticipation? Every now and then I catch myself flinching before the shot breaks. Thank you

    • @InsideOutPrecision
      @InsideOutPrecision  4 роки тому

      Pretty much what I covered in this video. You have to blank bale for a long time and retrain yourself to be okay with a "surprise" shot. Take the target out of the equation and just work on execution until it becomes sub conciousness

    Thanks for the video. I have started implementing you advice in my garage over about 4 yards. Am I correct in thinking that it would be detrimental for me to shoot my usual Frostbite round at the weekends, would I undo the good work achieved in practice? Should I resist shooting rounds for the next few weeks?

    Im not so sure if it’s target panic but I seem to try and punch and trigger and let my release hand down sometimes at the same time. Not sure if it’s because I’m anticipating the shot going off or I have too much weight in the bow? Other times and can hold a 3 inch group at 60 yards. Does that count as target panic?

    • @InsideOutPrecision
      @InsideOutPrecision  4 роки тому

      Yeah its definitely a form of target panic. Your finger either misses the trigger or doesn't hit it hard enough and then you body just relaxes because it's used it's used to the shot going off as soon as your finger moves. If you do t feel a steady increase of pressure on your trigger finger while aiming/pulling into the back wall, then you're most likely punching the trigger
