In the middle of the night I wondered how the hexagon shape is made (I am very curious and like to learn), and now this morning you answered that question and more. 😊 Amazing how bees do all of this! Why are the frames close together, and where would the bees construct up a hive if not in an human-made one? Thank you for this educational video!
Fascinating! How did I not make the connection of the shape of the cell to the size of the bee? Thanks for making this all understandable with your videos! 💛
Im still not sold on the cylinder to hexagon,i think bees draw hexagons from the bottom on out,or foundation may as well be circles, rather than embossed hexagons😊
Good point! There is only one way to know for sure - put a frame with no foundation into your hive and look at the comb when it is really tiny, just a few inches tall and wide. Look at the shape of the cells. I would think that if foundation was in the frame, the cells are built as hexagons from the start. But, if there's no foundation, they start out as cylinders.
@@BeekeepingMadeSimple i think they start as trihedral 3 sided pyramid, like dadants smoker symbol, comb is drawn out,not stacked,...it would be really great to see festooning and the drawing out process in time laps,I did find some studies on the surface tension, cacoons, contributing to the final structure, its facinating for sure, how the cells stagger side to side in a zigzag
Nice! They say beekeepers tend to live very long lives because we eat the whole comb with all the magical properties in it :) That might not be 100% true, but, hey it can't hurt.
Thanks! Sometimes I just need a break from all the talk about how to keep bees and want to just share why I love bees so much. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Hi miss one question can bees collect enough nectar and pollen from coconut trees so that they can be on a honey flow on that crop . Am from St. Lucia 🇱🇨 and there are a lot of coconut trees here.
I don't know how much nectar the coconut palm trees produce, but I do know that the bees LOVE them. Since the flowers are so high up it's hard to see if they're taking nectar or pollen, but I can hear the palms buzzing when I stand under them. My guess is that they must produce an okay amount of nectar because the bees I have by the ocean bring in a ton of honey when the Mesquite trees bloom. When that bloom is over, the palms are really all they have. The hives aren't bursting with honey like from the mesquite harvest, but they are stable for the rest of the year.
yes please, I need this answer too!! I have a lot of flowers around side of the house and backyard, but how do I discourage them to build home right there? I was thinking maybe spray vinegard in the spring? any ideas? - Thank you ALL!
Great question! Worker bees are constantly walking up to the queen and touching her with their antennae. They get her pheromones on them and then they walk around the hive and distribute her pheromone. The poor queen bee is usually bald and that's from being touched all day long by her daughters.
Interesting! Could you please reply with the link to the video or give me a brief summary of why he says this? I have seen quite a few frames of small, newly built comb and a lot of the cylinders look pretty round.

How much time it takes bees to make comb in a hive
Not sure why I decided to watch this when I should have BEEn in bed 2hrs ago
Bees are absolutely amazing and I found this to be fascinating.
لكن الشيئ المحير هو مقاسات العين السداسية التي لا يخطئ فيها النحل فسبحان الله وبحمده الذي خلق النحل
The part where you said that make heat, it is also Resonance that molds the combs. It’s all about the vibration the bees make.
Props to her eating the whole honey comb

QUESTION: Do bees ever move into an old, abandoned hive, and take it over kinda like a “fixer-upper” ?
THANK YOU! Insanely more helpful and informative than I expected! ❤
