What I appreciate about you most is that you tell people how much this costs. So many people make excuses for why they can't discuss pricing. Most people on UA-cam are merely looking for a rough estimate of what something costs to plan for their own projects so this, sir, is truly appreciated!
@@kenskarpentry So you r cost is $115,000? Or thats the cost to the home owners? If the $115,000 is your cost how much would the home owners be paying? How much do you make on a job like that? Thanks
You can do costing pretty easy by calculating material and then checking stores. Contractors get a discount to make money but you get a rough estimate that way. This project got expensive because of the concrete slab.
You and my papa have the a similar fashion of communicating. My papa built his home before his wife had kids. Then built his kids homes, and maintained all of them. He began building his grandkids homes, and I grew up listening to him explain every part and process. He spoke like you. Shared same respect and joy in the work.
Love how calm you work, I'm a carpenter in Massachusetts and I've worked for some intense contractors. It absolutely hinders the overall atmosphere when everyone is all stressed out. Anyways a huge fan of your channel I hope you're staying warm this winter!
The level of professionalism and good old fashioned experience and skill is what I enjoyed so much about this build . It’s quick, efficient and you guys seemed to get along with each other incredibly well during the project . I was mesmerised. Thank you for recording this journey . 👍🏴
Ken loved how you condensed the original videos. I saw the originals and loved them. I can't get over how you still get on that ladder at your age. You are fearless, and it was nice of you to help them with the windows. Also all the positive comments from you on the other contractor's workmanship. I would love to watch you do a foundation and have me help to learn. I probably get in your way. The good news I am not too far away from you. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos. You are my favorite channel in construction. Blessings to you and your family...
I'm in Guatemala right now. I just finished a concurrent masters degree. I will be going back to the US in about one year. I would like to work for Habitat for Humanity when I go back. I went trough a pre-aprenticeship, carpentry, program. I love your program. My MA's are in emergency management and Criminology. I love your program. Thank you all !!!
That is incredible building something this beautiful for $115K! Great job to all that helped construct this awesome structure and for sharing to allow others to enjoy!!!
Beautiful job Ken! Pre-assembled pieces make for quick and accurate work. Also a huge fan of insulated concrete as it's one of those things that has to be done up front.
What did I see in this video? Fast, efficient and well-coordinated work. Cool video editing and excellent comments by the author. A house that appeared right before our eyes out of nowhere. It's great to watch videos like this.
Great job Ken and crew. As a concrete guy, it's nice to have a good operator on that front loader so you can spend more time in the mud 😂 Thanks for sharing this build! Cheers from Florida 🌴
I’ve been watching a lot of videos about new/ restored rebuilds and this is the first time I have come across your videos. I would just like to say I really enjoyed the build. You now have a new fan and will be checking out all your videos. Kind regards and thanks for sharing this work with us. Old retired Scottish man living in Germany 👍
My name is Bernd, I am a German. I like your video, the landscape, your house and the way you build it. Really, well done. This was a lot of work, but the outcome is great. Thank you for making the video and all the best in your new house from a fan of Germany 👍🌹🇺🇲👋
The design of those windows really frame that view. Really stunning! As others have mentioned before, it would be so great to see how the homeowners finish these projects out. Even if it was in a separate video where you did highlights of that particular build from previous videos and then had the owners send a few photos that you could add at the end as sort of a slideshow. They could actually work well as UA-cam shorts. Thanks as always.
I used to do this kind of work ---just trim now --some cabinets --going to frame etc for daughter /spring /summer--very exciting to watch --like your show /demeaner--thanks
And the Doctor said ? The thing is I am finding that this review of the original work is really good and interesting. I do remember the views and in joying. Now I’m hooked on the reviews of the series you’re doing. I hope you can do this each year thanks again for your time and work.
T-111 and red stain, like the first house I ever worked on in 1971, with Russ Christian & George Schromm, 43 Sentinel Hill Rd, Attleboro, MA . I sure miss the work.
Fantastic video and fun to watch too. Beautiful structure and great job. All positive nothing negative. I was worried the end A-frame was going to topple over but all went great God Bless.
very much enjoyed the way you work Ken, I've been watching for just a few minutes and I'm finding your tonality and the way you get through your day is very calm and supportive not only for your viewers but for your workers as well..I'm visualizing building a house of my own someday soon, really appreciate your insight on the process.
That was a nice build. Beautiful location and a functional cabin just ready to move in. There's a roofing company that cuts metal roofing material on-site to fit the transition to the porch area without a break from the upper roof to the lower roof.
Would love if the owner or someone posted a follow up to this showing the inside and all complete. Such a pretty house on such a great spot. Just absolutely beauty all around.
Love your work... Only suggestion I would have is to use rebar chairs to hold the slab rebar up so that it doesn't just wind up at the bottom of the slab.
as a fresh carpenter(changed profession 4 yrs ago), it would be awesome to to just tag along and learn this type of carpentry. used to be a painter for 20yrs.
Hope you, crew and family are doing well Ken. We are doing a snow dance here. Not much happening this year to keep revenue flowing. If it's not going to snow, we're hoping for a early spring.
Funny, I have a MEC 1932, great machine. I always wondered why you didn’t use one before. I also own the same Bosch table saw and a Makita LS 1013. Nice tools. When we raise gables, we put a 2x4 near the peak with one nail so it rotates. If the gable was12 feel tall, I’d make that 2x4 about 3 feet shorter and you can easily adjust for plumb and it’s a fail safe to make sure the wall doesn’t get away. Nice work.
I'm an electrical engineer by trade, and there is something so calming and therapeutic watching you and your crew work. Watching a master craftsman apply his trade and do so well. Thank you for posting these videos.
if California wasn't up there own wazuu! in bureaucracy that would be a beautiful build for someone looking for s nice home and on a budget. thank you for sharing Ken amazing job...
That is a brilliant video showing a house build from start to finish. I bet the spray foam has made the structure so much more solid, although I have heard it can become a bad problem if there are roof leaks and the rafters rot without anyone knowing about it. I envy the people who live in that house, hope there is fish in the lake, can fish from the porch!
Love your videos. Im a painter in Michigan but have done a good amount of construction. I would definitely hire you to build my house if you were closer. Have a great day ken.
I can't imagine how hard it is carrying those OSB roofing sheets up a ladder that high on such a steep pitch. One good gust of wind and off you go. Impressive!
Hi Ken this is your best build it’s top shelf ,I would love to live there Sweet million dollars views I’m lost for words very nice cheers ❤️❤️👍👍👍😀😎🍺🦘🇦🇺
Great video. This house could b finished under 115K IF you opt out of spray foam insulation and less windows. It wouldn't look as spectacular as this one, but it would make a cabin. Outstanding work!
Nice. Question - why not add the sheathing (in your case siding) to the walls before you tip them up? You've squared them already and that would hold them square, and no one has to go up a ladder with a 4 x 8 sheet. Years ago I framed for a few years and that was our MO. That view is beautiful.

You sir, are the Bob Ross of residential construction ❤
Haha thanks
I was literally thinking the exact same thing. Very peaceful and fun to watch.
Yes, for sure. What a nice and polite guy, not like the construction workers I know..
Too bad there are no "happy mistakes" in construction

Beautiful. Just Beautiful. Love how you make that board and batten look from T1-11 siding. Those big windows give it that perfect lake cabin look 👌

Engineered I-Beams are the best. Used them on the second-story floor of our home 30 years ago and not a squeak anywhere.
I love it. Amazing job. I am glad you showed us how you do it.
Wow the window panels looking onto the water is stunning. Well done sir
Thanks
Absolutely beautiful location, views and construction. Just perfect.
Always keep your fascia board off from the roof to help keep it from rotting and to get your roofing underneath. Love your house

Can you do a basic breakdown of the pricing? I'm interested in how much that big set of windows added to the cost as well as the spray foam.
The glass was around $12k installed. We didn’t do the spray foam so I don’t know the cost.
I love your narration. I subscribed just for that reason.
Nice work! I love to see your videos. Keep up the good work! greetings from the Netherlands

One of my favorite projects you had last year. Beautiful location and very nice house design 👍👍
Thanks it was a fun project
T1-11 exterior grade siding is the way to go when you're on a budget. With good roof overhang and paint/sealer it'll last you a lifetime.
Right
Meus parabéns ficou maravilhosa a casa e o lugar deixou mais bonita ainda desejo saúde pra vcs desfrutar
Came out great. Wish you were here I’d have to hire you
Bummer thanks

Makes the walls alot heavier for 2 elders to lift up
