  • Simply put a ticking stick is an a useful tool to help with the layout of an unusual shape. Here I use 8 points to create the custom fit I need for the concrete board to go in my closet underneath tile. The stranger the shape the more ticks you will use. I hope you find this video interesting and informative!

I've been a carpenter for 45 years and I've never seen this before. Good to learn something new.

This technique works amazingly well on a boat where there are exactly zero square corners and lots of curves. Thanks for the demo!

Thank you Andrew! I love using this technique on weird shapes that aren't square.

So simple yet so clever. I'm surprised I've never seen one before.

The crazier the shape, the more I love this method. Thanks for watching!

Tysm for the video. It was a good start to a informative learning session. I wish you had completed this project in one session. By the time next week gets here I'll have already moved on in figuring this out with someone else, and I probably will never see your next video. I hope this helpful to you:) Thanks again.

Thank you for watching and for the feedback. The next video was just cutting the concrete board with a jigsaw on the lines I marked in sharpie. I guess I need to go back and list it as the recommended video at the end. I didn't make a video of laying the tile in the closet because I ended up in a time crunch to get it done. Thank you again!

Wait, what more was there to show?

Not sure. Maybe they wanted to see the concrete board cut and installed and then tile laid down on top of it.

@@MakingSawdust proof of the pudding mate. Many DIY like videos and even programs on the ol' TV showing off "amazing solutions" are only amazing in the way they attract viewers to ultimately not live up to expectations due to the entertainment value (read assumed attention span) being of more value than the accuracy of portrayed "solutions". I had the same response: why not show the result to offer an end-to-end solution and implementation! That would be a great video and actually teach the entire process, including possible caveats that you need to be aware of. Most of us are n00b's,, hence our interest in this whole YT apprenticeship!

If I understand you correctly you just wanted to see how the board fit in the closet after cutting it. I cut the board in my next video. I could have added a photo but it was going to be difficult to get a good picture showing everything in such a tight space and I moved quickly on to laying the tile. This is a very simply process and to make it more accurate you just trace the stick more times in different areas to see the contour of the walls better. Thanks for watching Jan and for taking the time to give feedback.
