    Weight training depletes the body of glutamine to the point that there's an influx of tryptophan (precursor to serotonin) into the brain, increasing serotonin levels at the expense of glutamine, hence the tired brain feeling you can get after exercise. This ought, then, to help benzo withdrawals, and it certainly does with me; I don't feel them at all when I'm training - it always gives me relief. Perhaps this is why.

      Prodigal Son did this work for you? I feel like the tired/calm and accomplished feeling after weight training would def help with withdrawals, but not the sore muscles & muscle twitches that can come from using weights, perhaps the key is go slow and easy?

    • @Zerael071
      @Zerael071 5 років тому +2

      liquidswordz17 yes it does help. But sometimes I feel worse while doing it or right after. But i try to keep working out and pushing through it. And that helps out. And I went like a week without working out and I felt like I was getting worse again. So that sucks. Lol. So until I’m completely better, it needs to be daily or every other day or something. I do walking for 30 plus minutes, cycling for 10-30 minutes, and beginner calisthenics videos from UA-cam. Like 15 minute routines. And that has helped me.

    • @Zerael071
      @Zerael071 5 років тому +1

      liquidswordz17 the muscle soreness for me is a distraction from the other withdrawal issues. I also alternate cold and warm showers. More cold though. It seems to help. I’m not sure why. But I think it’s the shock factor of the cold showers. I started taking fish oil too. From a company called New Chapter. And taurine when needed. I believe the fish oil helps with the brain healing. The taurine doesn’t make a huge difference. It’s only like a tiny edge off difference and only lasts like 3 hours. But when it hits bad, it’s better than nothing. I prefer just fish oil though. So that my brain can regulate and heal on its own.

    I appreciate a positive approach with dietary suggestions! Most of the videos and the support group I observed brought me down and made me feel a bit hopeless and overwhelmed. I am very much into nutrition, yoga, gardening and cooking to level off. I will now begin the final stages of my taper. I have just recently discovered I am not alone in this struggle AND that I'm not crazy. Thank you so much!

    • @mamacitapyjama
      @mamacitapyjama 6 років тому

      I did 2 tapers in the last 6 or so weeks and have had some good and productive days. I have also had some very rough and buzzy days. Mornings are generally much better than evenings. I am lucky to be a good sleeper. I have a couple more tapers before I'm done and will take a break so I can make it through a choir performance without being overwhelmed by sound all around me, just so sensitive. I am having some sad and emotional moments recently. I suppose that's my real self coming back. I stay productive and as social as I can on the good days and rest on the rougher days. I was forced onto disability at 45 by at&t I look forward to being off of the clonazepam after over 20 years being completely unaware of the damage I have been doing to my brain. I actually felt brain damaged some years ago and blamed it on the trauma/ptsd. My daughter brought the reality of the the situation as she studied for her masters in social welfare. She made a flyer to bring awareness to her patients and shared it with me. I struggle with short term memory and am acutely aware of each blank moment. Sometimes I can actually make my brain connect. Yoga and the music are great brain exercises. I choose not to limit my brain and feel that new pathways are very possible. I suppose I should write a book, ha! Thanks for asking, Mike! Most people I know don't get it and think I'm over dramatic if I mention it. I am a good faker and can "muscle" through when I have to.

    An eye opener and reminder about eating right. Benzo I was on caused major stomach issues and extreme weight loss/malnourishment (I couldn’t even walk) I went from my healthy weight (I am a 20 year old female) of 120lbs, playing bunch of sports, very coordinated, always active, workout programs, high energy, etc. I took Ativan and dropped down to 94lbs. I couldn’t walk, lift my head up, barely could think, my organs almost failed, etc. all because Ativan destroyed my stomach. I’m 4 months off now and still struggling but can actually eat (just not enough) but before I couldn’t even force down a single blueberry once I became dependent on it. Horrible drug. I should be working and going to school and being with friends and family and playing volleyball and other sports but instead I am using a cane and going thru these shit withdrawals. I’m at a wave right now. Sucks :(
    If you read this far I hope you have a strong journey to recovery and to come out feeling better than ever

    I was never on meds, but had depression and anxiety - in particular as a vegan - so I went carnivore, and that's when my mood became very very stable.
    Also discovered I had a histamine intolerance. THAT resolved my migraine issues I still had.
    Spinach is a food I totally have crossed off the list because it is very high in histamines, very high in oxalates, salicylates and just not as healthy as they say.
    As a carnivore you are on the safe side, but still have to avoid processed meats - but it makes life easier, it os trickier with avoiding stress, which will also increase histamine.. Keep that histamine bucket empty!
    So yes, you can do a lot with diet. And most people stabilize their mood with meat intake increase and carb reduction. Carbs mess you up and it is way better to be fat adapted, no more hunger crashes or feeling jittery. It's very very stable. Nora Gedgaudas has this great metabolic woodstove analogy. If you eat carbs, that's like kindling to your system. Fat and meat are on the other hand thick logs of wood that keep you goin for hours.

    I know that I need B Vitamins but after reading tons of stuff (which by the way terrified me) on Benzo Buddies as well as the some benzo resources kept saying to not take Bs or Magnesium, They kept saying those two things amoung others would make symptoms worse. I think those are two crucial things our bodies need. Have you read this or know of people that experienced issues with these two items?

    • @meagiesmuse2334
      @meagiesmuse2334 5 років тому +4

      I also read that on benzobuddies. I finally had to stop going there as it was hurting me, not helping. I consider Magnesium essential. I take both ionic Mg citrate powder and Mg threonate in capsules. B complex can be energizing, so I would only take it in a small morning dose and only if you can handle it. Seriphos was necessary for me the first 2 yrs. of withdrawal and now I take ashwagandha instead. I took xanax for 33 yrs. for muscle spasms and went through 2 yrs. of tapered withdrawal, am now 14 mos. off it and still cannot sleep, lost most of my memory and more, but would not have made it off the poison w/o Mg.

The bigger size, the better the value. I tried veg protein supplements a while back and found them very expensive (2-3x). Whey concentrate is less expensive then whey isolate but considered lower quality. I’m on 4 milligrams of clonazepam and any emotional stimuli make me burn in my brain and body. I have so many symptoms. I want to start a taper, but I want to level out. I can have someone speak to me, and go into a fight or flight. At times, I think I’m going crazy. I’m trapped! My body overreacts in normal situations. I have lost my personality. Also, I am in a homeless shelter ( big story won’t go into ) I long to rest. I long to just sit still and read a book; I can not do this. Texting this is making me burn all over. No one understands me. At times, I lose the strength of my voice, and. have become passive. I was a bodybuilder/ powerlifter and have muscle wasting. This drug has disabled me. I cry a lot and pray that God will see me through this. I’m scared. I’m always on the cusp of panic attacks. I with akathisia. I burn under my skin. Elavil has helped my restless leg problem. I’m in a friggin homeless shelter and don’t know what to do! Detoxing at home would be so great, but I’m around people I don't know and it's scary. I just won't me back. I could go on and on I have many other side effects. Thank you. I also tire out just talking on the phone I don't answer the phone. The normal things in life that just come naturally take everything in me to accomplish. Thank you. I need. To be around people who are dealing with my issues. I’m not a drug addict, but my body has to have the poison. I wish I could pour my prescription down the toilet. I also deal with rigidity while laying. I’m in an unfamiliar place. I hate being alone. I, in the past, have gone into paranoid schizophrenia and then psychosis from tapering myself off of two milligrams of clonazepam. I was admitted to a hospital and was misdiagnosed as bipolar, but mania was a side effect of benzodiazepine withdrawal. The hospital put me back on clonazepam because of the panic attacks Geodon gave me. So, here I am in a homeless shelter and it's almost too much for me. Thank you for reading.

This last month has been much more stable but honestly I feel like I was doing better in parts of the earlier months. I don't feel like I'm dying anymore but am a long ways from feeling like myself. Eating foods that are higher in fiber and less processed like root vegetables and whole Grains will spike your blood sugar less, especially when eaten with equal amounts of protein and fat. Think of your body as a highly sensitive instrument. Now it will tell you what is good for you and what's not instantaneously! +Zo ever (zo4ever) While everyone is different and has their own unique approach to withdrawal healing, fully recovered patients (especially ones coming from protracted withdrawal) cite two main factors in influencing the recovery process: lifestyle modifications (diet, exercise, no alcohol/smoking, etc.) and time. The former is under your control, while the latter is not. Even if GABA, in supplement form, could cross the blood brain barrier, it would further downregulate receptor sites and make situations worse. Prescription meds like pregabalin and gabapentin create more GABA, to which many patients have horrendous reactions.

    Up with pain again feeling completely hopeless been trying to google about this severe abdominal pain but when I find things online even the more updated information only talks about these kinds of symptoms for during taking klonopin and not anything on them happening way after stopping them nothing at all actually . I’m so sad I need help and I don’t have insurance I’m in soo much abdominal pain on and off all the time it makes me very lethargic and I’m weak so weak all I can do is lay down . This is the worst pain I’ve ever felt in my life and my stomach swells out it also hurts in my lower back and in my pelvic area I’m a year and a half off klonopin .the doctor who prescribed them to me just stopped prescribing them to me and then retired . I don’t know what to do I feel about brain dead and my husband is all I got I can’t drive much and he has to work all the time I feel so doomed and I’m not seeing many others experiencing this bad of pain so I am so worried and when I have went to the doctor they try to say it’s IC and that’s it they don’t do anything else for me they’ve tried to prescribe me Valium to put inside of me and anti depressants which I have tried to explain I can’t take .. explaining stuff with a broke brain is hard

    I am having a real problem with diet and withdrawal. Since withdrawal I have lost all internal sensation including the ability to ever feel full. I could eat 20 plates of food and if it weren’t for remembering eating my brain would have no idea that I had eaten anything.
    This is causing massive obsessional cravings for carbs and sugar - it is like having Alzheimer’s. At times my brain has told me to eat indedible objects. My hand reached out and picked raw meat off the counter and tried to stuff it in my mouth. It is horrendous.
    Before withdrawal I did the Dr Wahl diet for 3 years and intended to do it for the rest of my life.
    I am dismayed this has happened to me. It is very distressing.
    I have tried increasing protein and good fat but every time my current dose wears off and my brain and body gets squeezed I lose control of the obsession to eat sugar and carbs. It is literally like I lose myself and can’t control it.

      There is no way for your doctor to know that. Do they alter body chemistry? Yes. Can your body heal? Yes.

      Heather Ashton wrote that she had doubts that those who were on
      benzos over 20 years would recover. I was on 20 years, and after 6 years
      of ruin I am worse. I stopped eating what provoked symptoms, but I was
      not careful about dietary changes to avoid glutamates, and I think my failure
      to recover was maybe partly due to that as my neurons kept getting hit.
      Also, I have now become sensitive to novocaine (adrenaline/epinephrine)
      and I had a serious setback when I got benzos for a procedure.

      Jesse Shearer come up with a regimen and stick to it, even if you feel sick. Eat at least two meals a day in an 8 hour window, eggs are easy, canned tuna and chicken, packaged salads, with oil or avocado or mayo. Keep it simple and keep it consistent

      I know you are right and I am trying to force it down as best I can. I think it might have been a mistake to try and go cold turkey. I did not use Xanax in the daytime only at night for sleep. The physical with drawl I could probably deal with it's not sleeping that is getting to me. I went to my doctor and his answer to this problem was giving me Ambien? At that point I got pretty pissed and walked out of his office. Basically I don't ever want to go to a doctor again and unless I'm bleeding to death. I'm still trying I go about three days and came in from exhaustion now I have cut my dosage pretty dramatically though but it's that last little hump that I'm having a problem with. I would like to thank you for spreading awareness about benzos like you said they are still prescribing people this medication and it is still ruining peoples lives hopefully people will listen to what you and others have to say because the doctors sure won't tell them

      Steve Anderson that's rough. Did you know benzos are actually contraindicated for PTSD? I have several friends with PTSD who have managed to taper off benzos though and are soing well. It can be done but you have to treat dependence separately from the PTSD and possibly separate from the addiction

    So this may not work while still tapering because of the glutamate in the protein powders?

    • @BenzoBrains
      @BenzoBrains  8 років тому +1

      if you're too sensitive to glutamine then you'll want to stay away from protein powders and get your protein from food sources, mainly meat. I think vegan or Vega protein does not have as high an amount of glutamine. I actually built up a tolerance to the glutamine after a few days and so was able to tolerate protein powders.

    • @BenzoBrains
      @BenzoBrains  5 місяців тому +2

      @EnzoIsabella I don't like to give timelines because they don't reflect reality. Healing is non linear. For me and remember, my situation was very complicated, it took several years. But there were many times during that time period where I Was very symptom free.
      That said, I wasn't consistently healed or well until I started focusing less on my physical healing and more on my emotional and spiritual healing. Every healing journey is different. And I wish you the best of luck on yours!

      Yes in different ways at different times. For instance, I actually lowered my protein intake a bit when I started a keto diet. I don't have to eat as much now although I do still need to be mindful of it and usually drink some vegan protein as a supplement

    Why I am getting worse? It has been 3 months since I stopped Alprazolam, but getting worse day by day. Every day is worse than before, so how can I hope to get better with time.
    I never felt that worse during my entire tsper or withdrawal or last three months, when there was physical pain, mental disturbances but now there is nothing, I don't feel anything, not even myself, like I don't exist, it is not like dpdr.
    I see clearly, do all the activities, remember everything, but no feeling or existance.
    How can I live like this? Why i am getting worse?
    Will it fade away?

    Whey is very high in glutamate according to what I've read. So is broccoli and chicken. Also pretty high are cheese, tomatoes, grapes, peas, walnuts, mushrooms. Mackerel is supposed to be high in natural GABA, but I've never seen it in a single store or fish market where I live.

    • @BenzoBrains
      @BenzoBrains  5 років тому +1

      Certain foods contain higher amounts of glutamine, not glutamate. Your body can convert glutamine into either GABA or glutamate. However if your GABA/glutamate cycle is skewed, glutamine can exacerbate things until your body is able to process it correctly. However glutamine is often used to treat many of the symptoms experienced during benzo withdrawal so it's definitely a case by case situation and , as with anything, be cautious but not fearful.

      @@BenzoBrains -Thank you for the correction. I got the info from a PDF, which must have been in error. I used to take L-glutamine for my gastritis and it put it into remission, so I know what you mean about how it can help. I have genetically low GABA and am afraid to take it now, after benzo withdrawal, since I've read those with fibromyalgia usually convert it to glutamate. I don't know why it helped in the past though...it can be confusing.

    I am 19 months into antidepressant withdrawal which is much like benzo withdrawal. I thought the MTHFR gene just made it difficult to absorb B12 and folic acid? Is it all B vitamins? I haven't been tested for MTHFR yet but I take methyl B12 and folate anyway just in case. Wasn't sure if I should do that with the other B vitamins as well. Thanks!

    • @timothyjones762

      Be careful when supplementing with folic acid, which is the synthetic form of folate...it can block folate receptors, and if you have MTHFR mutations, it can just make methylation and absorption worse...check out Dr. Ben Lynch..he usually suggests supplementing with methylfolate, though like anything that can be taken too much and over methylate someone
