Nicely done! You caught the infamous Santa Fe (BNSF) 2223 Geep, which-if you pause at 3:50-shows it's crooked numbers. 2223 served here in Texas for quite some time. Thanks for posting. Post script: Atlas is now producing the 2223 in N-Scale.
Great video, you should go over the crossing there on Ridgeland, it was recently redone. Track speed for Amtrak and Metra are 70mph. 50 to 60 mph depending on the symbol of the train, the Chicago Sub of BNSF sees (B, C, E, F, G, H, Q, R, S, V & Z's). Keep posting!
-this is old Chicago, Burlington & Quincy trackage from Chicago to Aurora, IL. It is in CTC (Central Train Control) territory and shares trackage rights with Amtrak and Metra and thus has always been referred to as, "The Race Track"
Charlie Schulz summarized it well, but I'd like to elaborate. This is the busiest commuter line in Chicago both by trains and passengers. Also 3 out of 4 of BNSF's freight lines to Chicago use this line. It's amazing how well they maximize the 3 tracks.
I remember back in the 60s and 70s and maybe the 80s when the westbound freights pulling out of the yard would Highball and the smoke would cover the entire area, those were the days
Just picked up a car right there at metro towing a few days ago, i was born in berwyn and i grew up in that hood, brings back memories everytime i come thru town, especially right there where the old Illinois Central goes over the triple track.....sigh. You live locally? And yes, great vid of some classic racetrack activity...
hallo Charlie, Cooles Video mit hoher Auflösung . BNSF ist auch meine bevorzugte Bahngesellschaft.allerdings in Spur G. Grüße vom Gartenbahn Opi-66 aus Berlin Germany
The BNSF "Racetrack" is one of two main line routes in and out of Chicago for one of the biggest railroads in the US. So it is BUSY. It also hosts Amtrak and commuter trains, which means the track needs to have higher speed capability as well. That's actually why they call it the racetrack.
The train IS being pushed by the locomotive on the end; it is the only source of power for the train. But it is being controlled from the front from the cab car with the little window.
Excellent, steady, well-framed videography! I would love to see extreme close-ups of the wheels going through switch frogs. When two engines are traveling somewhere, to save fuel, is the first engine pulling and second at idle? Thank you.
What’s with the large, box or roof-like, overhanging structure on the top-rear (opposite end from cab) of many of the locomotives pulling freight? They seem to have some type of vents directly underneath, but no obvious purpose in themselves (though I’m sure there is one). Can see this structure best on top of the last locomotive shown at 10:58 in the video (black w/two lights facing rearwards).
In the segment 2:38 to 2:54, is the train being operated from that visible end, or being 'pushed' from the rear? I can't quite see if there's a driver behind the little window, but surely there must be an operator looking forward..
Ya, i watched a couple more vids of yours and saw ur homechannel, i figured it out. Is there not a triple track equivelent up by you? Something with as much action, or am i just taking the triple track down here for granted? Growing up with it in the back yard tends to make me spoiled i guess......like, doesnt everybody have one? lol.
Midwest Rail Productions interesting points ,if anyone else trying to find out how do i get a job with the railroad try Tarbetti Rail Work Tutor (do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my cousin got excellent results with it.
To all Chicagoland railfanners, which Metra do you think has the best balance between traffic heaviness, local area, and safety: Lagrange, Naperville, or Elmhurst? Thanks.
Where is this? And why do they all seemto be coming through pretty quick and with some sense of urgency? Is there something down the track they have to not block for more than a certain amount of time?
@ibook133 Thanks but this was almost a year ago, and this video was the first time i railfanned with this new camera. My newer videos are not this horrible
Makes trains here in the UK look quite small............very enjoyable............have you watched mine,TheMichaelWilcock...on UA-cam............goodbye from Wales
Not the greatest part of town. There's a bar mill on the north side of the track just east of there. It was a bad area to lock the keys in my rig in the middle of the night.
That's quite the bit of action you caught there. Awesome mix of trains. I've subbed. If you get a chance, check out my channel for CP action in the mountians and sub back. Thanks.
Are you joking? This is the first video I have seen of yours, and it is a 10 for action. You make it feel like this happened in real time. Great videos, I am looking forward to more of yours! BTW What span of time did you take all the video?
There's just something awe inspiring about these magnificent machines. I can't imagine a better way to move hundreds of thousands of tons of freight.
The light power moves through here are awesome!
Love the fast bell on BNSF 5086.
Awesome video, lots of action in that area!
i saw metra the first time when i went to Licolnshire, and libertyville

I love the Chicago Metra

was that a unpatched warbonnet in the beggining?
Nice catches with the war bonnets, bluebonnets, NS and CSX units and BN MACS
O yea,the LaVergne station had a botbelly stove to keep us warm, forgot to mention that

I like this video. Nice and quiet..and trains go by. However, it annoys me that it's a QZ :(
The train IS being pushed by the locomotive on the end; it is the only source of power for the train. But it is being controlled from the front from the cab car with the little window.
Thanks, this first part was only two or three hours. There is a part two. Combined I was railfanning for probably six or seven hours
Good video, lots of action! This is in or near a yard I assume? I notice the lack of horn use.
Another good video, nice variety of power!
Some scenes look like in "Palem 123". :P - Nice Video!! :)
Love that Gumball Truck too.. Wig Wags on it. haha
Excellent, steady, well-framed videography!
I would love to see extreme close-ups of the wheels going through switch frogs.

Thank you.
Wow, this area has alot of warbonnets! Amazing shots and just earned another subscriber plus a like!
Nice representation of the old Santa fe locos.
Am I the only one who likes the train vids in the winter time? Awesome scenery/background for these epic machines !
great video friend! you made this video in a day? how many time you spend recording this?
Love that first locomotive, that unpatched Warbonnet
Why no horns at the crossing except for a few?..... Where the police car and ambulance crossed. Nice vid
Great catches!!! Nice work!
Love BNSF 5084, just cool as a cucumber, coasting in. lol
Just out of curiosity, on average, how frequently did each train come by? Also, great video! Keep up the good work!
10:58 BNSF 4059 FROM THE KISMET TRAIN COLLISION
But you're in Berwyn..LOL. I grew up a few blocks from there.

that is the radiators/ cooling system
kw900lkevin Ah, that makes perfect sense - which is probably why I didn’t think of it. LOL. Thanks.
The rail truck absorbed the Police car!!!
What was the buzzing sound at 3:30 ? Welding or something shorting out?
me too l like BNSF
Quick, Ambulance, get across while the crossing isn't busy! lol
Great video sir. Thank you

Did the tank cars on the bridge ever move, or were they on a siding?
WOW! Did anyone else see the cop car vanish? SPOOKY! ;-)
Where at in the video?
Midwest Rail Productions interesting points ,if anyone else trying to find out how do i get a job with the railroad try Tarbetti Rail Work Tutor (do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my cousin got excellent results with it.
Nice video editing, rather than showing the whole cars which is boring you concentrated on the front and rear of the train.
How's the relative safety/general crime potential of the area????
To all Chicagoland railfanners, which Metra do you think has the best balance between traffic heaviness, local area, and safety: Lagrange, Naperville, or Elmhurst? Thanks.
Nice footage. Here is a like from me :).
I've seen BNSF 665 (@ 0:20) in my town before on an NS train, but it's been a while.
Where is this? And why do they all seemto be coming through pretty quick and with some sense of urgency? Is there something down the track they have to not block for more than a certain amount of time?
Is there were a train watching spot like this near me, I'd basically live there :)
Yes, this is west of chicago
Very good videos!!
there is a very nice Wiki on "BNSF Racetrack"
look things up if you don't understand the concept.
is this area a silent zone? so... no horns
super, busy video=good job!!!
WHAT IS A SHORT OR IS HEARD POWER LINE???
Silly pickup truck - tracks are for trains!
This is outside of Chicago IL. If the railroads can go fast, they will. They never take their time because its a matter of money.
i love bnsf
Sweet vid!
What do you see at 10:30 that I don't...I just see a BNSF loco....
Is this anywhere near Chicago? If not, where is it?
y no horns?
What's the name of the station/yard?
What Town and state?
Nice!
What town?
@mercenary454
I'm actually from Wisconsin, thanks for the comment
6:52 that scared the CRAP out of me
5a0a0
listen to the EXTREMELY fast bell.
@mercenary454
haha, nope. theres nothing half as busy around me.
Nicely done. At 3:20 if you look at the bridge, is it me or is that bridges in such poor shape that it looks like it ready to collapse at any minute?
Wait, CSX 4713, COME BACK!
Great Thanks
Cool
Great railfan video! You guys are spoilt for choice in the U.S.
Correction: 2 out of BNSF's 3 Chicago lines.
Yeah, I can imagine. Thanks for the info!!!
a race track?
TRAIN after TRAIN ACTION!!!!
@ibook133
Thanks but this was almost a year ago, and this video was the first time i railfanned with this new camera. My newer videos are not this horrible
To all the stupid people asking with city this is in, the first shot of the sign says from Chicago and even more specifically LaVergne
10:30 WTF?!
MEU FILHO AMA A FERROVIA EU TAMBEM MAIS QUE SAUDADES DA ANTIGA RFFSA

stop skipping the rail cars
Not the greatest part of town. There's a bar mill on the north side of the track just east of there. It was a bad area to lock the keys in my rig in the middle of the night.
Love the USA trains. nothing as good in Australia.
09:21 FAAAAAAAARRRT
That's quite the bit of action you caught there. Awesome mix of trains. I've subbed. If you get a chance, check out my channel for CP action in the mountians and sub back. Thanks.
seriously you can not even wait for one rail car to skip the whole thing load of junk
Jh
Zu viele Schnitte. Las doch mal den Zug ganz vorbei rollen!
