What a great answer! He never played into the question, condoned or condemned, yet shared his values. Very good answer!
He did answer though. He made it clear he has no weird bigotry against gays. He is a conservative that drives me nuts with his Ted Cruz endorsement, but now I don't hate him, I just disagree with him.

I don't know why anyone thought he was a jerk for this. Seemed like a pretty logical and well mannered answer to me. There ALWAYS has to be someone making a fuss over this subject when we should just be facing the actual issues. Looks to me like James Woods understands that.
Ace Diamonds I don't think that's what he's saying. I think he means marriage at large. He did say, "I'd say the same thing I'd say to my heterosexual friends." By that I think that he means he doesn't think marriage should be sanctioned by the government AT ALL. not just involving gay marriage or interracial marriage. I think what he's saying is that it should not be legally binding it should be personally binding. In other words it should be none of the governments business who gets married or not. And if people REALLY want to make a fuss about it, they may want to watch out for what happens legally in that process, like with ANY marriage. But Hey, gay marriage is legal now, so we don't really have to worry. Either way, my point was simply that I don't think he was meaning to bash on gay marriage. Just talking about his opinion on logistics. But I like the intelligent conversation it stimulates :)

Sometimes we expect everyone to have the exact same opinion as we do and convey it in the exact same manner as we would. If they veer even a slightest bit away, we demonize them. Many of the reasons government is in the marriage business is because you got those not liking religious marriage ceremonies. Those who don't believe in god. Also those who believes in god but can't afford the cost of a religious wedding. The government and the court system is in the marriage business is that when divorce happens they need a way to make sure some ungrateful cheaters can get half of your money or not. Lastly in this country government is in the marriage and divorce business is mainly to get non citizens marriage and divorce recognized by another country to make sure in most cases the person loses his or her citizenship or residency if it was originally based on Marriage. For this country the US Government needs proof of their marriage or divorce of a foreign national for legal purposes in issuing a Visa for their non American spouse to allow them to move to the United States. The Swiss needs proof of a US Marriage license so a Swiss Citizen can get their non Swiss spouse automatic citizenship based on marriage. So now you know why the US Government requires states and territories to issue a marriage license and divorce order so that other countries can have proof of marriage and divorce via the Government.
