Is a bad break-in affect the engine power? Maybe that is what happened here
No such thing as a bad break in with a modern engine. They are revved to maximum at the factory under controlled testing. Engines 30+ years ago needed a break in. Engines that are rebuilt after damage need a break in. New engines out of the factory do not.
