I respect him for releasing the fish. He’s the record holder in my mind.
Why?
Can't check for weights that way ...
@@Valorius as a fisherman i would release it so it could possibly pass on those mutant genetics.
You, Sir Scott Enloe, are the true Champion Record holder! Thank you for not killing such a legendary beast of a fish! Letting the ancient one go free again, demonstrates what a true Sportsman should aspire to. If it is caught again, or on the other side of heaven, the naysayers, shall be silenced. I think the rules should be changed for record fish, to be set free or at least to be kept alive if at all possible. Why intentionally kill such a wonderful, unique part of Creation? 👍
@@Valorius this fish was probably an original stocking. 60+ years old. Deserves to live in the lake.
respect for releasing that fish, world record right there!
Yo pc ima huge fan
Yoooo
I love you bro your my idle
Full of weights I'm sure
Shoulda ate it
Good for you, a true sportsman.
Could've fed his family for a couple weeks with that sucker.
Agreed 100%
Absolute unit of a trout and he even released it - absolute stud and sportsman to be admired!
Full respect. You’re a good bunch for releasing it.
Mad respect for Him and his son. God bless y'all and your family. You did the right thing. He has it on film so it was recorded. So he is the record holder
Scale could’ve been tampered with
@@crateofthebrain951 ya and yer momma couda dropped you on your head..... WTF?
@crateofthebrain951 you can't have the best of both worlds. The guy seems pretty content with his choice 😊
I'm pretty sure that's a saying 😅😂
The fish to me looked ‘pregnant’. His release decision will probably add another 2000 fish to the pond.
What a true fisherman. I know you beat that record releasing such a achievement for the next generations to come is priceless.
True.. gives me goosebumps just thinking some other father and son team might have fished the same fish years ago and released it as well..
exactly. think of all the monsters that will spawn from this guy. Good genes belong in the wild.
I can't say enough about this guy. He thought more of the fish's life than the fame he'll get. God bless him this guy is #1 in my book!!!
No.10 in mine.
Yep, and by releasing the fish, he's helping someone else have a chance to have their own 'giant fish' story. I hope the next person will also release the fish (if it's ever caught again).
There are regulations in place
It's 60+ years old, it's passed it genes on already plus it's an invasive species in blue Mesa, kill em all😁
Grumpy old men: someone caught king fish
That's a true Sportsman. Much respect.
This man deserved that fish. The respect he treated it with is my favorite thing about true sportsmen.
This shows true sportsmanship, 9/10 people would keep the fish for the record but this guy throws it back, which shows his respect for the fish and fishing as a whole
I say 9.9 would've.
It'd be hard for me, I'd never see another fish like that ever.
I’d definitely keep it
Don't think thats true at all. Most other anglers I know have 0 interest in keeping lake trout. Not very good eating.
@@Hartwig870 most people don’t keep trophy fish for eating because there meat goes bad, most people keep trophy fish to mount or in this case solidify a record
@tylerholt6828 Most people do it for fun and it depends on what type of fish as well because a low number of pan fish could be 10-15 for the people who keep 50 at a time
Hunter, you rock for releasing that fish!!! Good men, with good hearts and souls, are too few and far between these days... thank you for being one.
RECORD OR NOT. IT’S A BREEDER. IT GOES BACK. TRUE FISHERMAN RIGHT THERE! 😊🎉
It’s 60 years old. It isn’t breeding anymore. Just eating and shitting and fighting off other viable males.
E X A C T L Y. Those are the fish that do most of the breeding. They need to be put back.
Any really highly productive trout fishery has a slot limit and there is a reason you can keep the really big ones. Once they get to a certain age they just do more to prevent breeding than actually breeding.
The problem is, the Colorado Division of Wildlife are attempting to control the numbers of lakers in Blue Mesa. They are netting and removing numbers of fish to control the overall population. Why would saving a fish that would reproduce and add fry to that lake benefit a fishery that is trying to reduce their number?
The Colorado Division of Wildlife isn't interested in increasing numbers of lakers in Blue Mesa. They have been netting and removing numbers of them according to their agenda. I agree that a fish should be returned to enhance the fishery and angling experience for others, but again, releasing it because it will improve the fishery for lake trout and overall numbers isn't a priority of the current establishment.
Thank you so much for showing that fish so much respect, and congratulations on the experience.
That dinosaur deserved to live. Hats off to a TRUE fisherman.
That fisherman wasn't that old. Got damn
The man is a hero. That trout was laiden with eggs. The man was an epic sportsman. I fished from Destin Florida my entire life and we salute this conservationist.
This old fish has probably already done it's work many times over making new lakers. Chances are it will die after being laid in the bottom of the boat and handled so much. I mean, happy thoughts and all that I guess, but...
@@IrishRebel88 Wrong. the short time it took this sportsman to measure allowed it an opportunity to flush the deadly lactic acid buildup it would surely have acrued during the fight.
There's a very strong likelihood this titan will survive.
There's little more heartbreaking in angling than reviving a big fish by the tail, seeing it operculate, struggle to go, only to let it go and witness it sink like a rock, still too cramped up to swim effectivly enough to sustain waterflow over the gills. Most of us will only need to do this once.
I'm pretty certain you've never released a huge fish.
Meat harvesters rarely do.
@@philipkeeler9997 it's an invasive species
@@Stephen85 no it's not, it's one of the original species of that reservoir
@@Master_Yoda1990 incorrect. Lake Trout were introduced into the reservoir in 1968 accidentally.
Congratulations to a sportsman of the highest caliber. Catch and release fishermen care not about accolades from others, they get their satisfaction in knowing they're passing on a healthy fishery environment to the next generation of fishermen.
Catching one of the giants from any system is a very special experience, almost spiritual. You don't think about it until the moment. You get this sense of deep respect for a creature that beat all the odds. Suddenly bragging rights or harvesting are not priorities, only releasing and a nod to mother nature for the experience.
Some people won't relate, and that's fine too. Feeding yourself or your family is important.
Very well said and true. I caught a Bream last year, nothing massive but it put up such an amazing fight. My biggest fish of the year. When I landed it, the only thing rushing through my mind was to get it back quickly. When I got home my dad was annoyed I never kept it as it's a lovely eating fish. What you explained is exactly how I felt and that's why I fish as a hobby and not a provider. Everyone's story is different
@@DiskiDomain , I am exactly the same brother. It's why I switched from gear fishing to fly fishing and tying.
Always good to hear from fellow anglers whose passion for the sport starts with an appreciation for the wildlife above all.
BS shit load other smaller fish eat them
@@jimmunro4649 , that is an unintelligible sentence.
This is inspirational! 🙌 I fish for trout too, but nothing to that size! Respect for releasing this precious fish! 🎣❤
I had a “secret fishing spot” like everyone else has. I ended up breaking my PB there, took pictures and all. When people asked me where I caught it, I’d tell them somewhere common that everyone fishes. (A main pond that has tons of pressure.)
I respect the fish release. No sense in killing this 60 year old creature for fame. You just need to know that you did it. No one needs to believe it.
Pics and Video... We believe it!
Mad respect to him for releasing that fish.
Facts! Big difference between an eater and a “trophy” and a trophy fish should always be released. No point in killing a fish that big, when the get past a certain size for their species the taste is gone
Except it's a non native invasive
Sorry but trout do NOT live anywhere close to 60 years , the oldest trout on record is 23 years and it was out of a european loch, normally a long lived trout is 10-12 years 💊💯💯💯
@@jeremiahkaine8175 Technically, it's a char. I don't know if that makes a difference
When you find a specimen you let it live. Absolute unit of a fisherman. Hats off
Shoulda ate it
When you find a specimen like that you throw a dinner party and serve that fish.
Now THAT is a sportsman.
Well done. What a wonderful example to set.
Thank you for letting it go!
I was gonna say the same thing!
That would be dinner if I got it
@@easygreensniperit's full of eggs da
@@BamaRockstar85 Caviar.
@@Valorius um def not caviar 🤣 Caviar comes from sturgeon genius
As a true sportsman, this man realizes that his record catch, is worth more as breeding stock for future generations, than a trophy on the wall. Hats off to you for setting the right example. Great catch!
Trophy on the wall? How about dinner on the table..... Several nights
@integr8er66 I bet that fish would have tasted like shittt, when they get big like that they start to taste funky and have super high levels of heavy metals
He can get an exact replica of that fish with a picture of it and all the measurements and still release it
This is a true man, and that’s what a man should do. If you get a world record fish, put your ego aside and let that fish back in the water. Bravo to you my friend.
Thats unfortunate you dont feel the same about people per Jesus and Nikola Tesla in a way the inventor of nylon was suicided right after his discovery because he did not want nylon to replace hemp .
I caught a world record thin lipped grey mullet in Spain ten years ago, I did the same thing I put it back. There was no way that I was going to kill such a beautiful fish. I’ve got the photo’s of the fish, that’s good enough for me.
A true man would gut it, and feed his family with it.
@@Valoriusthe bigger trout tastes like crap anyway. It’s the case with most freshwater fish at least. The barely legal length ones taste much better. Also the smaller younger ones have less mercury in them too so they’re healthier.
@@darrellgrant7615 you’re on crack if you think a big fatty trout fillet doesn’t taste better than a skinny little panfish
...that fish ain't never miss a damn meal.
Absolutely Phenomenal story. Great catch n release. Hope your record is confirmed. Aloha
Classy move! The memory of catching that monster and knowing its still there to give someone else that memory is worth way more than a name in a book. Nice work!
Life of the fish over a record great sportsmanship there. 👍
What a great catch and release! That fish had survived a long time and no matter if he is awarded the record or not he did the right thing by that fish.
Blue Mesa is beautiful. Many good memories from there!
Whoever is mad does not simply understand. I'm glad he did. What a great catch 👏
Kudos for releasing it. Who knows, maybe it'll grow even bigger!
This is seriously going to effect the trout population.
“Trout! Trout! Pretty little trout! One more splash, then come right out!”❤❤
Had no idea trout can live for 60 years, goodness gracious
It is really a char. a close relative to trout. Trout do not live that long.
The most valuable thing here is what his son learned that day. Congrats to them both.
That’s like catching a legendary fish in red dead redemption two and then letting it go 😂
Props to this guy.
That is a true fisherman. God bless that man.
As a catch and release fisherman myself, this man is a legend.
Yup I love seeing this. Too many people just kill everything. Don't even eat half of it they just freeze it lol. We all know those wasteful ass people
@@ballsack8937 I couldn’t have said it better myself.
As a fellow fisherman top marks for releasing that beauty , much respect. And a great lesson for your son on what's really important.
It’s super important to torture an animal to show your manliness.
Wow. Good job man. So much respect. Awesome that you returned that fish back to the wild. Such a good example of true sportsmanship.
Good on him for releasing it. Thats a great human.
Lots of respect to that man!!!
That's a real fisherman who respects his abilities more than his accolades. 👍
Great catch ! and Great release.
So much respect for this guy
It's a pre-spawn trout. So, yes, it's great he released the fish. Big respect.
Thanks for the release! Much respect for you!
Im from Australia, this is the best kind of news to enjoy given the times.
He is my hero for releasing it back you are the record holder in my book..keep hooking them...m
That must have been one heck of a fight.
Can we just acknowledge that between great bear lake, great slave lake, and the U.S great lakes. That the new world record lake trout wasn't caught in any of those but in a Colorado resevoir that might as well be a pond compared to all of those?
the fact he released the fish really just shows his sportmanship. This is the dream fish for any fisherman, what a great trout.
All life deserves care and respect ❤world record for selfless compassion
Cockroaches deserve care and respect? Ticks? Fleas?
Respect to this man!!! He got a world record ( in my opinion), and a great release deserved to a long-lived fish. 60 years...Wow! Sir, if you are reading this: Congratulations and my appreciation and utmost respect to you.

She's a BIG GURL ! Again, mobile phone/cameras allowed her life to continue. Thanks for releasing her !
What an amazing man!
Wish more people were that awesome 👍🏻
She was definitely FULL OF EGGS. Good job on the release bro. Incredible fish!
Lake trout spawn in the fall.
It may have been a infertile female allowing mass to be put on instead of eggs.
A record 100 plus pounder was commercially netted in Canada and it was infertile.
If you ever fished trout the eggs do not get large till fall, right now they would be very tiny, that is just the shape those very large trout get.
In the fall she would be like a ball.
@@FondelMikeRotch Man this ain't a lake a trout. It's a speckled trout and they spawn in the spring, right now. There's no point in keeping anything over 23" esp big females like this that are full of eggs. There are more than enough 16"-18" fish out there to eat
Yeah it is a lake trout
@@BamaRockstar85 Its not a spec lol. That record spec was caught in the Nipigon river. I know I have fished it

"Hey siri..."
Such high Regards and respect for releasing that awesome catch. Yes its awesome to keep such a beast , but this fisherman knew releasing this monster means potential breeding allowing more future monsters to grow.
there is nothing wrong with keeping within regulations. But to release it is pretty much a beautiful thing.
Dude wherever you are I want you to know We the fishing community appreciate your candor. Bro people always joke but releasing does make fishing better another day. Its ok I hope you are blessed with many daily salmon limits and may your lines be tight forever.
