  • Ever wonder how they make a perfect cigar?? While Gargoyle’s crew is relaxing at Puesta Del Sol, we decided to check out Estelí, one of the largest areas in Central America for cigar manufacturing. First a 200 km drive to the northern mountain region of Nicaragua where we see the traditional artesian gold miners and then arrive in Estelí to tour Plasencia Cigars. After a long day, nothing better than relaxing poolside with a cigar!

      They retail in the seventeen dollar range in the states where I live. That's out of my price range for a single smoke, so, for Placencia, I usually have a Reserva Original, which is a bit less expensive.

    When she mentioned glue, it isn't traditional glue. It is a food grade adhesive made from vegetables . Thanks for the tour.

    • @SailingGargoyle
      @SailingGargoyle  4 місяці тому

      That's correct. Manufacturers use pectin or vegetable gum as a natural adhesive. I'm told you can also use the same to repair a cigar that has loose wrapper leaves, though I've never attempted that myself.
      Thanks for watching the tour and we're glad you enjoyed it and took the time to comment.

    We loved our tour of Plasencia but since we've now been here for 3 months we find we're running low on cigars. Time for a delivery! We have a contact at My Father's cigar, that may be our next.... any suggestions?

    Great video, thanks! I'm currently in Mexico and planning a trip through Central America. How are the prices of cigars in Estelí compared to outside the city? Are they cheaper than abroad? Also, do you know if Nicaraguan cigars in Nicaragua are sold cheaper than elsewhere? Saludos desde Mexico!

    • @SailingGargoyle
      @SailingGargoyle  3 роки тому

      Glad you enjoyed! Unfortunately the name brand cigars are produced in a tax free manufacturing zone. As such we were told they were sold at the factory at the full price. Still, has to the freshest cigars going! FYI, the Padron tour seemed impossible to get on though we did see a speciality guide that included such a tour. Finally you can buy inexpensive locally rolled cigars in Granada from Mombacho. They were worthy for the price as well. Enjoy!

    Doesn't the nicotene absorb into the employees hands from working with the leaves all day? Or isn't the nicotene released till it's lit?

    • @SailingGargoyle
      @SailingGargoyle  11 місяців тому +2

      That's an interesting question that I hadn't thought of. According to online research nicotine can be absorbed from the wrapper in the mouth without the cigar being lit so one would assume it could also be absorbed via the palms. So chewing on an unlit cigar is somewhere between smoking the cigars and chewing tobacco, perhaps?

    • @Randy2747
      @Randy2747 11 місяців тому +1

      @@SailingGargoyle possibly.... I never thought about it either until I watched this video and realized nobody is wearing gloves and that could be a large amount of nicotene absorbed in thier skin.

      @@SailingGargoyle If these are the Plasencia Reserva Original Cortez then they can actually be found in the USA for a box of 10 for $89 so thats a bad deal. Did you happen to get factory pricing on any other cigar boxes?

    • @SailingGargoyle
      @SailingGargoyle  21 день тому +1

      They'll likely be cheaper as the manufacturing zones require they be sold at retail price, I believe. It's been a few years. That said, they're a steal at either price. Just purchased a couple of Cohiba Siglos in Palma Mallorca and paid €70 a stick! But did really enjoy them.

    • @SailingGargoyle
      @SailingGargoyle  Рік тому +2

      Our apologies as we're aware now that our pronunciation was off. After seven months locked down in Nicaragua during COVID it has greatly improved. Note, we also spent three years listening to native speakers in Central America struggle and fail with Gargoyle. We would always say it and then accepted their version, knowing there was no disrespect meant by an honest attempt.
