  • www.ProFirstAid... In a situation involving an amputation, assess patient injury, control bleeding, look for signs of shock, and make sure the scene is safe. Hold direct pressure to the area, elevate the body part, and make sure the patient remains stable. Apply a pressure bandage to the wound to control bleeding. Place a cold pack over the area but not directly touching the skin. Next, find the amputated part, package it properly, and take it to the hospital with the patient for the best chance of reattachment. To package a part properly remove debris, wrap the part, put it into a plastic bag, and then into a cold icy solution. A patient can be safely transported to the hospital once bleeding is controlled and airway, breathing, and circulation are fine. If there bleeding is hard to control or any negative change in airway, breathing, circulation, or shock occur call emergency services. Video created by ProTrainings.
