Haha the original Falcon 4.0 flame out mission, takes me far, far away... And quite a few years ago ^^ Wasn't anywhere close to that in terms of fancy, of course. The ATC is probably the only thing that did not need a facelift. Much respect for the BMS team.
I guess it depends - you should approach at such an angle that with gear out the drag will not be a factor. Taking your gear out a bit early will give you some time to prepare in case you encounter a problem with it not lowering properly. If you are already in a shallow approach without a lot of margin for error getting your gear late would be better option since even if it not dropped it's better to perform belly landing on the tarmac than a gear down landing on a field.

I've actualy just flew that mission in vanilla Falcon 4.0 for comparison - I've recorded it and will upload it for my next video.
@@damsonnwill be interesting to see.
That arrested landing was pretty cool!
Nice! What was with the weird brightness on the landing?
It was the hook scraping the tarmac.
@@damsonn Ah is that deliberate so you can slow down faster in an emergency situation like this?
@@qwertyuiop32935 it's useful when the brakes fail
Nice landing. Aren' t you supposed to lower the gear at the very last moment?

Why did you dive so steeply towards the runway? Felt more like divebombing than emergency landing.
In dirty config and no power your glideslope is much more steep than in conventional powered landing.
