Jets did the same thing, blowing a chance at the #1 pick Trevor Lawrence by winning a game at the end of the season that they had no business winning. The consequences of that win manifested itself in the form of Zack Wilson.
The Jets were in so much worse position than New England. The Jets had a terrible coach, were 0-13 and had lost a blowout the week before. Their tanking the tanking was an epic one.

Thank you Patriots for upholding the competitive integirty of the game and refusing to tank.
Now if the Patriots could do something, anything on offense, they could've had a 7-6 record now.
And doom our team to, at best, mediocrity for the next several years? No, this win was the biggest slight on Belichick yet, if there was EVER an argument to fire him, continuing to win this season would be it. The Patriots are the only team that ever gets consequences for "cheating" even when they aren't even actually cheating, now is the time to actually pay in those sacrifices forced on them and make a real move, that move being tank to the #1 draft pick.
Even years after TB left , the drive and passion to win is still ingrained into that team. If you’re going to tank just close up your shop and get the truck out of the NFL. Pats earned that win when nobody gave them a chance. As aSteelers fan we got embarrassed by the better team. Suddenly the rest of the season looks really bleak, might not win another game.

@@russellstewart5414 Nonsense, the rules have been changed to the point that without a good QB you simply cannot win a super bowl. Tanking is the only reasonable move in that environment, and I expect our teams winning mentality to accomplish that, instead they take the biggest L of the season and beat the damn stealers for no reason.

For last night's game looking like it would be a total snoozer earlier this week, the whole Brockman Memo bit made it one of the best games I've seen this season. I was laughing from the very first drive of the game, through halftime, after that ending, while I was asleep, and now as I watch this the following day. Hil-ar-ious.

That's not how it works. This isn't the NBA. Where you finish matters. It's exactly why Belichick hasn't drafted an All Pro since 2013. It's more difficult to do so when your team finishes at the bottom of the draft board because you have the greatest quarterback of all time. When you don't have a franchise quarterback, you need to tank. That's how the Colts got Peyton Manning and the Cowboys got Troy Aikman.
The "Tom Bradys" of quarterbacks don't grow on trees. Belichick hurt the Patriots by winning last night. Wake up.

My buddy at work is a huge Georgia Bulldog fan. All season he was saying "We aren't 3-peating" until the SEC championship. Then he was stoked saying "If we beat Bama then we will get 3." Sorry, but I have no sympathy for the tank-for-the-first-pick crowd, no matter the team, year, or possible pick. First, I would never root against my team. Second, first picks are no guarantee. Just make a great second pick, or third pick, whatever. Besides, his rant doesn't seem sincere. It's just for show.

As a Pats fan that was rooting for the Steelers, I never seen so much incompetent football in my life when in mattered the most. The Steelers made it difficult for us to tank, the 4th and 2nd play made that so blatantly obvious and Mitch shouldn’t be in the league.

I can't say this was not exactly me, last year as a Texans fan, when on the last game of the year, final drive of the game, Davis Mills lobs a TD pass through the inept intercepting hands of that Colt DB...then on the 2 pt conversion watch TE Aikers almost drop...but end up catching the 2 pt conversion for a win to give away the #1 pick to the Bears...a team that beat the Texans. And yeah, I totally get that 1 year later...it has worked out for us...but, man...I feel ya brutha. 🙂

As a Patriots fan, I was disgusted last night to watch the Steelers fail to live up to their potential and win a game that would have kept them in the playoff hunt.
I expected better from the Steelers and they failed to help us in our quest for the #1 draft pick.
Steelers are well known and documented for playing down to their competition, and trying to playing up to top team competition. Plays Good teams, they want to play good, plays bad teams, they try to out perform the bad play.
Screw the #1 pick! How many great quarterbacks were #1 picks? Not many compared to the disappointments and outright busts.
A quarterback who cries in his mommy's arms at 22 has a better chance of being Jamarcus Russell than Peyton Manning.

@@jeffe8961 No we don't. The weapons are bad but give 40 year old Brady these weapons with THIS defense and we would have easily 3 or more wins than we currently do. Eagles had 5 straight 3 and outs for the only time in Hurts career and won by 5. The Pats have lost 6 1 score games. No way would they lose 2/3rds of their 1 score games with an above average QB out there. Mac is a deer in the headlights now.
The OL is not that bad either. Top 5 in run blocking win rate, albeit last in pass blocking but I think that was largely in part due to Mac's inability to sense pressure and lack of agility to avoid the rush if he does sense it. Sow has been very good in recent weeks along with Strange and Onwenu. Sure, they need a playmaker or two but if the skill guys were healthier with an average QB, this is not that bad of a team.
