Lana Del Rey's Stirring Speech At Variety Hitmakers: I’m Grateful for All the Criticism, I Get a Lot

  • Lana Del Rey was presented with the Decade Award during the Dec. 4 Variety Hitmakers brunch held in Los Angeles. After being presented the award by her “Wildflower Wildfire” collaborator Mike Dean, she thanked many of the people who helped her on her journey.
    “My managers helped me up the stairs,” she said. “I still haven’t mastered the art of walking in heels. I’m super grateful for them, Ben [Mawson] and Ed [Millett], and for this award. I’m really glad that they’re here with me. They picked me out of the bar scenes, lounge singer scenes that I was singing in for about eight years before I met them. They got me out of a deal I made for 11 records for nine grand while I was working at a restaurant and living in a trailer park. Ben did that in one hour and then the next day he flew me to London and let me live with him. In a year, I wrote ‘Video Games,’ and I was ready to make good records, I was ready to make a lot of records.”

      @LP-ct9nk 2 роки тому +13

      Being a fan is different from “giving birth” to an artist the way you implied Lana did towards Adele when you were agreeing with the other comment. Adele has had her own sound and style (which she honestly hasn’t deviated from at all) that she created before Lana came out. Even now they both don’t sound that similar beyond them singing “sad” songs. (Florence + the Machine would be a better comparison). Lana is good at what she does, but you can’t say she’s shaped Adele when chronologically that’s false

    So proud of her! Lana is so important to me. I spend my whole life listening to her amazing records.. When she said "I'm really always grateful for any acknowledgement my heart broke 💔 The last 2 years, many people are against her and comment on her very badly for everything she does, forgetting how great she is as an artist. She got this award with her value and I hope it will be a new beginning for her ❤

    If you don’t agree with stuff that she said, that’s valid and no one is asking you to absolve her. But you can’t fault her music. She’s a freaking brilliant musician! I’m on a Lana binge from a week now- and it’s been going great!

    There is something I will always love about Lana. Her music got me out of a really bad place, I don't know where I would be without her, literally. I just resonated with her. Her singing is so intimate, it's like she sings just for you. When she sings to you she heals you. She makes you feel pretty, loved, accepted. She makes you dream and takes you into a different world. All while being true to herself. So vulnerable, yet so fierce. Like her music or not, you can't deny the influence she has on other people and the way she connects with the listener. I know that it sounds weird, I can't say this about any other celebrity and I don't think that it's quite rational but I really love her and I feel that I've known her trough her music and poetry. So, so, so proud to see her finally getting the recognition she deserves. I wish her and her grandma the best.

    eventually , real artists get recognized …
    even though she didn’t need any recognition to be considered the best artist in the music industry of this decade .
    By the way , she looks stunning .

    Well deserved. She really tooked a lot of criticism and still didn’t changed. Thats why she’s a pioneer. Created her own genre and has influenced so much on how today’s artists write and produce their music.

    It's easy to make music that's fit the current rhyme and be something "fashionable" but it takes gutts and real vision to make something that while is so connected to today it also will live on to generations. Her music and spirit will live on, she has a legacy. She's a true artist.
