Cheers Jay, well done to you too and yeah I have already signed up for next year. The wind on the way back was a challenge that's for sure. I only stopped at 53 miles which would have been enough if I had eaten more. That's my main take away for next year.
" Key learns were less stops" - and more time on the bike. Its a great achievement but I am amazed how many people just squeak in exhausted/empty/tired. More time on the bike = easier miles on the bike. I am in my 60's now and wouldnt think twice about doing a century because my legs have the mileage in them. I did it in 2024 on three hours sleep, having come from the Netehrlands where I did a 143 mile ride six days earlier and I wasnt tired at all, at the end. Its all about the mileage you put in, in training.
Don't think of it as a bike ride, it's an eating competition! Eat a bit of SOMETHING every 20 minutes INCLUDING THE JOURNEY TO THE START LINE. (1/3 of a gel, 1/3 of a banana, bite sized flapjack, bite sized chocolate brownie, 1/4 of a bagle with PB&J). I started with nearly 2kg of food in my pockets and ended with about 500g, and never stopped except to get a water refill (and repair a puncture!)
Yeah, you're absolutely right, I definitely need to do that next time. Need more pockets!! Well done on doing it, sorry you got a puncture. There were plenty that day!
@@DannyWyattTV most bike computers have a periodic reminder feature now. I set mine to 20 minutes, and when it bleeps I grab a small something to munch
I was in Pink B. Great day except for the half hour lost in hold ups. At the time I thought they were to sort out crashes but people are suggesting it was to let cars cross the route. Anyone know for sure?
Yeah a little damp but a great experience none the less. I was actually at the front of one of the stops and we didn't get any feedback on why we had stopped. It was about 5 minutes in total, but I'm guessing that delay grows as the field stacks up behind. I'm thinking it was an emergency vehicle needing to cross the route. Would be great to know for sure!
@@DannyWyattTV Based on the distance (longer than I ridden before) I put in 7.5 to 8.0 finish time. I finished in just under 6.5 even with the stops and hiding under a tree for a cloudburst around half way. I want to get under 6 hours next year but I’ll probably have to estimate 5.0 to 5.5 to get an early start and hopefully avoid some of the hold ups. Like you I had a scary near miss when someone lost their phone and slammed on the brakes in front of me! I did start with a friend but we parted company very early in the traffic. Clothing was a puzzle. It was quite warm and I really didn’t want to be riding in a waterproof jacket. When the rain eased off a bit I just kept going in my long sleeved cycling jersey and I was dry again with 10 minutes.
Yeah I did a few practice rides and thought I may be able to manage a sub 6. Thankfully I was successful. Hoping for a sub 5 next time if I can put in some proper training. Clothing wise, my waterproof was light and I actually didn't take it off the whole ride in the end. I was out during the heavy downpour at 85 miles but within 5 miles the sun was out and I completely dry. Hoping for a warmer sunnier ride next year!
Great video Danny 👏
Thank you, much appreciated!
Well done. I also completed it. Key learns were less stops. The last 15 miles were more of a mental battle than physical. I will do it again next year

@@grahamo22 that’s right, all about the training and building up to something like this. I’m sure many just turn up on the day.
Loved it. Well done.
Thanks Lizzie, it was a great day!

I've got a Wahoo Roam, I'm sure it must do that. I'll take a look. Thank you, very helpful.
