Really strange that the Blue Curacao doesn't get to be in the cocktail shaker and just poured at the end. Will it change the flavor profile that much? I'll give it a try
It only depends on what visual effect you want, for yourself or guests. If you want a lightning effect like in the video, obviously pour the curaçao only at the end. But if you want an homogenic blue color, just put the the liquor in the tin like other spirits (and certainly add a quarter ounce of it, but then substract the same spec of vodka).
Another great video. Minor and possibly stupid question, is the coconut crem used in the recipe the combination of Coconut milk and simple syrup or just coconut cream from a can? Looks incredible and have to try it out some day.
I tried to make a swimmingpool the way you did in the video, but I didn't find it too different from a pina colada. And I liked the idea of a more blueish cocktail. So the recipe I found worked much better imo: 8cl pineapple juice 4cl vodka 2cl whipped cream 2cl Cream of Coconut 2cl Blue Curacao Crushed ice Shake it all together: voilá May not be the original, but tastes much more refreshing and is more distinctly different from a pina colada.
I visited his bar this year in January and ordered: - Mai Tai - Royal Bermuda Yachtclub - Hurricane - Planters Punch - Whisky Sour - I don’t remember the 6th drink All in all 68,50€ and it was a blast

question, is it better to add the Blue Curacao after the shaking like you did or would it be ok with the rest of the shaken ingredients. Because I was thinking any of the pictures I've seen of the swimming pool usually have a overall blue colour instead of the "dripped" blue.
i would advise to try shaking all together makes for more well balance drink and incorporates the blue curacao much better/ and flavor wise tastes better, and if you think of swimming pool , swimming pools are blue not like pina colada white with some shit pouring down, floating is just nonsense and for looks, maybe schumann did it but a lot of people invent b.s and stupid things
Question for you @The Educated Barfly I love making cocktails at home have my large collection of barware, liquors and liqueurs, fresh herbs, even started making my own clear ice with directional freezing, but the last few videos I see the pebble ice WHICH I LOVE, I know there is the OPAL nugget ice maker, but I'm worried about all the quality and negative comments, how do you get nugget ice at home and what do you suggest for home bartenders/mixologists. Jacob Espinoza I buy my pebble ice from an ice company and it’s relatively cheap if you don’t have an ice Company you can get from Sonic which sells their pebble ice and the opal from what I’ve heard is an option but can’t speak to the quality because I’ve never used it. He's my variation of a Piña Colada: 2 Plantation 3 Star 2 Pineapple Juice 1 Coco Lopez 1/4 Lime Juice (makes the pineapple slightly more tart) 1/8 Giffard Orgeat (adds a touch of nuttiness to the Coconut) Frappé
You said "all distilled spirits", but are all distilled spirits gluten free? Like whisk(e)y, for example, is distilled under 96% but usually distilled around 68ish% and then barreled. Is it possible that there is still some gluten content? Unlike vodka which is 96%.
The Cooperative no it’s highly unlikely that there is enough gluten content to bother anyone even if they have celiac. There are less than 20 parts per million in distilled spirits made with grains containing gluten which fits the standard for “gluten-free”
I drink this all the time but i have malibu instead of vodka and half as much coconut cream. Add a couple barspoons of falernum. Garnish with pineapple slice, frangipani flower, mint and a cherry. Dont ask me to do shit after that.
Exciting. I have all of these ingredients. I will be making this tomorrow! Hey, as an aside, your Chartreuse playlist needs to be updated with Death in Oaxaca. Also, if you're including Yellow Chartreuse: Naked and Famous, and Age of Aquarius, too.
This is an awesome cocktail, but the fact that it looks more thoroughly blue in the thumbnail got me thinking. Is that a different one you made, with shaking the blue Curacao as well? How did it get so blue?
We didn’t redo the cocktail for the thumbnail it’s the same drink. We put .5oz. Blue Curacao on top and it combined. If you look close the color isn’t uniform. It’s possible it mixed a little from tipping the glass while tasting
It's to keep it cool longer, and the amount of ice he's using doesn't change the amount of cocktail you're getting, as opposed to, say, a soda fountain drink where the server fills it to the brim with ice so you're getting less. The more ice there is, the slower it melts/dilutes the drink.
