Materials used compliments of Randall:
Materials for Gladiator Rails
2 joints of uni-strut (only need one if don’t wand a rail under the rear cab window)
12 6mm bolts (holes in the bed are tapped for 6mm)
2 shoulder washers per bolt I washer may bend when cranked dow 2 won’t
3/8” bolts length will vary on what you are going through to anchor the tie down D-rings
(I used 3/8X1-1/2)
3/8” fender washers
3/8” nylon cone washers
D-rings found on Amazon they come 10 to a package (I used 16)
If you want to paint you will need Bonding Primer to stick to the galvanized uni-strut
What ever color of paint you want to use.
I built and re-built these things so I ended up with a lot of spare bolts and nuts and washers. On the other hand when we went for the install we had everything we needed.
The uni-strut is easily cut with either an angle grinder or a saber saw. I had a battery powered one and shortened the 10ft joints in the Home Depot parking lot, so no overhang out of the bed.
Purchased the nuts bolts and washers at local home stores took 1 Lowes and 2 Home Depot stores no one had all the stuff I wanted/needed.
Mahalo for the info Rob and Randall.🤙🤜🤛🥳👌🙌👌👉🏼👈🏿👍
See the video description 👍
@@robmotiveplus I couldn’t find it in the description? I think he means the part that you actually clipped the bed cover to. You didn’t list that.
I did the same to mine and it works perfect for less money 🙌🏼💪🏼
Thanks looks nice Randal ,, orange and black, nice. Agree, Gladiator needed to have more than the floor tie downs
Nicely done. Looks great with the orange Mojave accents. Very functional. Randall’s Mojave looks great!
Absolutely 👍
Thanks I’m happy with the end product.
@@randallupton3622love the bed rail set up ! Do you know of another bracket to use to attach the bed cover to?
@@joelspillane5335
Sorry no I don’t. The brackets I used came with that tonneau. For a year I didn’t use them I just clamped to the side lip of the bed, so the brackets just sat in a box on the work bench. Just clamping to the side of the bed was starting to bend/warp the side lip. Then I installed the rails, when I did I sudden;y had a place to use the brackets. But the brackets originally came with the DNA tonneau. Sorry I can’t be of more help.
How long are your 6mm bolts?
Looks great
Love it! Love watching you guys. Great work guys!
Thanks Jackie👍
Thanks for sharing…. Some good ideas…
Looks pretty cool! I might have to get a set of those for mine...
That looks great!
Thanks 👍
I really like it. orange is perfect.
Looks great👍
Looks great!
Came out well👍
Definitely worth the effort! Better than stock IMO
Pretty stout👍
I was literally just installing a gas rack in my gladiator and noticed I didn't have the rails, so I UA-cam it and wala your video came up... thanks for a the info 👍🏻
Thanks for watching. Glad to help 👍
Aloha and Good Afternoon 🔅 Rob. The only missing item is the bed mat to compliment the Mojave. Plus, Randall did a terrific job in giving his Mojave more options to do many things. Great video 📼 Rob.
Yup! Very useful 👍
Do you have a link for the black brackets that are used when the bed cover clamps on them?
Great alternative to the expensive L track
@robmotivejt what kind of paint and color of orange was used?
I did this to my gladiator a year or so ago. Easy and works , but beware if using Ratchet straps or a tied heavy load that shift. I got a little tight a it tore the inner supports that bolts go into ripping one through the inner bed and tearing the sheet metal on a other area of inner bed.
Wow!!! Good to know😬
Very nice.
Thanks 👍
Looks great! I like it!
Thanks 👍
@@robmotiveplus love the videos! Thinking of trading in my full size truck on one of these, looks like the Mojave is the one I might get!
You won’t be disappointed 👍👍
@@robmotiveplus 👍😎
Thanks for video! Need to know the name of those bracket things for the tonneau cover to hook on to. I just did my rails same way and can’t secure the cover to the uni strut without that. I don’t see it on your pinned comment with parts list or in the description. Without this, we have nothing! Lol
Where do you get tonneau cover bracket to secure tonneau cover?
Typically they come with the tonneau cover.
Nice rattle box you've designed.
I don’t know what that means?
@@robmotiveplusPretty sure he’s referring to all those hooks rattling in bumpy roads
Who knows? Just a troll most likely.
Looks like it will do exactly what he needs it to do. My first mod was to add the Mopar Trail Rails and I’ve been pleased with them, but sure wish that I could get more tie down points. He’s got more than enough, and I’ll bet they don’t flex.
Should be a tie down for every need👍
The factory rails are great, these were just cheaper think it was around $125 or so, I already had the paint.
@@randallupton3622 the large black bracket you are using to hold down your hard cover. What is it? I was told it's in the comments you made but haven't found it
@@randallupton3622 Thanks for video! Need to know the name of those bracket things for the tonneau cover to hook on to. @@Mainyoutube24 hmmm I don’t think I’m going to be much help. Those brackets came with my tonneau. I just didn’t have a place to attach the brackets before the rails.
For some reason I’m thinking the draw catch on my tonneau would reach far enough to grab the U-stock rail??? I’m not sure about that, the current set up has been my system for a year. Only thing I can think of is to go back to your tonneau mfg and see if they have a set of those “J” style braces
Did he have to drill into the bed sides to mount those rails?
No, they bolt on.
Is this 14 gauge?
Where did you get the blue twist locks for unistrut
I believe he got them on Amazon🤔
Loving how it looks! Is there an in depth vid of fabricating them?
Nope. Randall bought the pieces and cut them to length. Painted too of course.
There is really nothing to it u-strut comes in 10ft joints. I took a battery powered angle grinder when I went to buy em. I did some chopping on the store parking lot so cut em down there. Nothing hanging out the back. Took em home used a battery jig saw to get the length right and to enlarge the holes to fit the pre threaded attachment points. I used bonding primer to stick to the galvanized metal. Painted let it dry a couple of weeks and installed. Oh I used 2 - fender washers under the 6mm bolts that hold the rails to the bed. 1 might bend under the stress 2 not so much, put blue lock tight on those bolts. Used lock washers on the nylon cone nuts to hold things on the rails. Other than painting and enlarging a few holes not any more complex than the factory rails.
Aloha Rob. Simple question. Where did Randall purchase the materials for this installation? I know that you stated that it is cheaper to buy these materials for self installation. It's sensible to get these on your own rather than getting it from the dealership.
Not sure. Perhaps he will respond 🤔
is the only purpose of these to have a better attachment point for the cover?
There are many uses depending on your needs👍
Good question, actually the attachment points for the tonneau is a nice side benefit. Sometimes have taller items back there having the ability to lash Themis a plus. Trying to tie down just from the 4 floor mounts is sometimes not as secure as I would like. So adding several points higher up along the sides mill be more secure.
Is the “gladiboard” Mojave logo painted or just an sticker? Great video, definitely doing this to my mojave
It’s just a sticker.😬
The black large angle brackets Randal is using. What are those called and where did he get them?
Have a look at Randall’s comment on this video. He gave the info👍
I see where he talks bout the nuts and bolts but nothing about that large black angle bracket
Plus I don't see where he's commented about the video. I see where he's replied to people
It’s in the comments👍
The large black pieces came with the tonneau to use if you have rails. I had just left them in their box for a year and a half. They came with anchors for the smaller factory rails. I used the cone nuts. If you get a tonneau with the “hardware” to attach to a rail you get them. Oddly my tonneau said no rail attachments but they were there.
He should sell this hole set up
He did👍
with the permeant loops attached what it the reason for the channel
Huh??
@@robmotiveplus i must have misunderstood i thought the black rings we screwed right into the bed rail mount points
I added the Jeep/Mopar Trail Rail System to my JT for ($347.99) which I thought was overpriced. Did I miss the total cost on Randall's homemade system?
I just priced it out for around $120. I did not include primer/paint.
@@dudeman5788 Thanks, I would consider that a significant savings...
That was about what I spent. I already had the paint except for the bonding primer. Oh I also ended up using 3 different stores. 2 in Harlingen 1 in Brownsville. Supply chain issues.
@@randallupton3622 Appreciate it Randall; it looked really good too...
Can I get the dimensions??
Have a look: ua-cam.com/video/I35edXK2dzQ/v-deo.html
@@robmotiveplus how about the rails
See the first pinned comment.
Wow that tonneau cover messed up his bed. I would NOT be happy with those humps
All the more reason to install a rail system if you’re gonna mount a tonneau 😬
@@robmotiveplus I added the factory version for a similar reason on my JT; I thought it would provide a more secure attachement point for my ARE topper instead of clamping to my bed rails...
You sound a little like the handyman in a can, guy.
Lol! I like to think he sounds a little like me😂
