If you can invest in a small vacuum sealer, it will really help with sealing dry foods and spices for much longer. This is to bring the risk of oxidation to the very minimum.
Also, some foods do not last well when you keep refreezing and defrosting or opening and closing the container. So sealing them in smaller single-use portions will be better.
Thank you for this added tip.
@@Chibeesask you're very welcome.

This video is gold ooo, for me that like scentleaf fresh for pepper soup i don learn ooo, God bless you for making life easier for those of us in the abroad ooo😂😂❤🙏
I have learnt alot of lessons here as well. I’m based in Nigeria for now but I preserve moi moi leave up to 1month in my freezer i just wrap it in a nylon and lay it flat in my freezer not placing anything on it. It stays fresh till any day i desire to use it. I preserve it that way because moi moi leaves are something scarce in lekki and when you see it jakande market most times they’re not very fresh so i buy from Oyingbo market and preserve it
Packing those items is where the work is especially when there is no more space to store then. And you know the stock fish cannot just be kept anyhow because of fish ants. Fresh Ora soup loading, am so coming over. 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Yes, my saving grace is that it's still winter so for now they can stay in my balcony. By summer, there will be more space in the freezer. 😃 The struggle is real o.
Ngwanu, come over. :)
This is awesome
Nicely done Flo. Thank you so much for sharing
Thanks Chibuike. :)

I always keep my Beans in the Freezer even when I was in Nigeria to prevent weevils getting into them.
You can also keep in a container and put ungrounded 6 Hot peppers 🌶 in it.
The insects will not go near.
I put my udara and garden egg in the freezer....i never thought of putting beans in the freezer
Thank you for the tips 😊
I use soap to wash the uma leaf 😂

Awww! Thank you. 😘😘😘
I was laughing when you were complaining about hubby picking the leaves in a way you don't like 🤣😆😂 I understand we can be very grounded in our ways 😁. Great tips, I use vinegar for the moi moi leaves and a little bit of washing up liquid, now I think of all those moi moi I've eaten outside scary world 😳🤔💡
Lol. If I think too hard I don't buy food on the outside.....lol....the things we ate....God protected us 🙏🏾
😂😂😂that sharp sharp method of picking veggies darkens it.
This is why I'm so put off eating out because I know they can never have the time to clean these like this. Yes to washing up liquid. 👍

Sister Flo please is Ogiri the same as locust beans or Iru
Flo baby 😘😘😍❤️👍
Hello sweets. :)
Okay Aunty Flo this is my cue to go clean my freezer and start labelling items. Pretty sure I have food items there from pre-pandemic era 😂😂😂🤣. Please what is your experience with transporting dried vegetables like bitter leaf? Would you advice to store in the freezer or shelf ?
Welldone ma🤗
Pre-pandemic era??? 🤣🤣🤣 Someone please call the HAZMAT group on Ms Ify oooo!
Back in the day when I still used dry bitter leaves, I kept them in a cupboard like that place I kept Abacha. But before using it, I would first of all soften it, watch: ua-cam.com/video/ikSdTPbXncU/v-deo.html Because I do the softening in large batches, I store those ones in the freezer afterwards.
Sis Flo, how do one store fresh ukwa when there is no sun. Can it be frozen?!
You're just too much. Even me living in Nigeria has learnt a lot from you.
I'm glad. :)
Thank u so much🙏🏽🙏🏽pls how can one preserve fresh tomatoes?
It depends, if you need them whole then the only way to preserve fresh tomatoes so they remain fresh and whole is in the FRIDGE. It does not last long though. If you put whole tomatoes in the freezer, they won't come out the same. But if you don't need them whole, you blend them, boil down, even fry and put in the freezer.
What is Tom brown and I really enjoyed your video

Thank you for the shopping & storing video. Very valuable information. Please, what is the best way to bring Kola Nut to the USA? Multiple times, it ended up molded. I think it was because moisture was in the zip lock bag. Any special way to transport and store them. Thanks in advance. 💕🇺🇲
Yes, moisture will contribute to going moldy but I wonder why that is so though. The USA takes no more than 24 hours travel time including transit time. Were they fresh at the time of purchase and packing? I have brought kolanut here several times (less travel time but they shouldn't go moldy within 24 hours) and they were fine.
Next time, try wrapping them with leaves such as uma leaves or cocoyam leaves, any natural bold leaf so they can still "breathe" while on transit. Then later wrap with newspapers and cellotape the package so they don't break into pieces.
@Flo Chinyere Thank You Sooooooo Much!!!! They were fresh from Edo State. I think, he received them, they were closed and started to sweat, before he left the airport. I'll pass your guidance along next time to receive them better. I was able to roast a few that survived in Convection Oven, then I ground them to use in tea... of course, he's African and like to bite them🤭.
Blessings to you and your family for all the wonderful instructions on Cooking Native Meals. We both watched your shopping videos.🤗
When you defrost the moi moi leaves, you defrost the whole package at once? That means you can thaw and freeze them repeatedly, right?
Yes, it can actually handle several cycles of freeze and defrost but to reduce that, I put them in several plastic bags such that only a few leaves are left over from one bag.
