@@mahalomydude both times I rode The Whole Enchilada I had to do a large portion without being able to shift. The first time my cable snapped with about 10 miles to go. The second time I broke my shifter lever on the feature you skipped (The Snotch) when you went to hit The Notch.
That is so inspiring with your Dad!!! I just started Mountain biking at 45 and to hear someone is doing it at 70 is amazing… I would love to ride for 25 years!!!
Where you guys live has bucket list riding for some of us. Glad to see you getting your own version on something so iconic. It would be great if it all went smoothly but the troubles along the way often make these things truly memorable. Awesome as always!
Oh the memories! I loved the different levels of ecosystem you get to ride through- pines coming down from Burro Pass, the aspen trees, the low bush through Hazzard, the desert landscape rocks and cliffs, the sandstone ledges and jumps. Knowing about the long but gradual climbs past the middle helps, but it still sucks. We’ve always left a truck with a cooler full of drinks at the riverside parking area. Put this ride on your Bucket List twice!
It’s insane how that guy Brayden Bringhurst climbed that whole trail in a day on a bike. And this video shows that it’s hard enough just to go down it.
Rode this for the first time this past first week of Oct. awesome job guys! “Awesome in a demanding way” was exactly right! Never been more excited to get off my bike that afternoon and at the same time more excited to get back on my bike and do something epic again!
One of my second most favorite trails ever. I rode in Moab back in 1994 and have yet to make it back. If I ever return, this will be a must ride for me, but I probably won't do a repeat of the Portal. I absolutely loved riding the Portal back then, but I was less than half my age without a care in the world.
Wait... what is your most favorite trail??? I was in the same boat... did all these rides in the late 80's, early 90's and rode everything including everything on Portal. Just went back with a lot of recalibrated expectations and had a blast. I will say I was a bit nervous but it all was awesome.
@sparks6666 The Portal was my favorite. I was riding solo, so I parked down by the road and rode up the jeep trail to Gold Bar Rim, then on over to the Portal.
I guess it was a good thing I replaced my Bontrager wheels with a quality set of Canadian made We Are One hoops. They've been solid so far. :D ...kind of hard to believe you haven't ridden WE until now.
Best narration and editing of the TWE, its too bad that PST is last bc that 11miles is the best! so i think the mini-Enchilada thus starting at Kokapelli is best!!!
Great video! A few comments: #1- Your dad is a beast! I did it on my 50's and that trail was/is pretty demanding. #2- Can't believe that wheel lasted that long with the damage it had and the terrain there. I usually overinflate a bit for those backcountry journeys. #3- Your unpreparedness is the reason I haven't switched to e-shifting. ;)
Got a chance to do this one in October, was so epic! Unfortunately they had to drop us a little lower cause of snow coverage so I didn’t get to ride the very top, but the weather was worth it! Kudos to your dad for riding that at 70, it ain’t easy!
I don't think I'd care to ride Burro pass again. Hazard onwards though was great. Although that section of fire road was absolutely soul crushing when you're that far in lol. Legendary trail for sure
Great cut ,as usual. I did the whole enchilada about 15 years ago, on a 26" wheeled Titus El Guapo. I managed to snap the bash guard on the chain ring, but everything else held up. It certainly kicked my ass though. Took a day of rest before more riding after that.
I had to look up the elevation of Whistler/Blackcomb when I saw you guys were struggling at the top. I didn't realize how low it was; it's as high as where I live in Colorado! you guys should come over here and ride Pike's Peak sometime; the trail starts around 14,000'!
HA! Welcome to the desert! The last time I drug my 3 friends down the Whole Enchilada and they were not stoked...I loved every second of it. MOAB don't go changin'!
It’s definitely a lung buster, and a biker destroying bucket of awesomeness!! Best trail I’ve ever ridden. Including Whistler. But I love Whistler, no disrespect! Cheers
I've seen your stuff and no doubt you could do it man. Just gotta take your sweet as time while climbing (walking) at the top... I feel like once you're past Burro Pass its all gravy. Assuming you brought a ton of water, food, and spare parts, that is.
entertaining video as always! shame a bucket list ride was hindered with an early wheel ding, but hey, the joys of MTBing! Just wanted to add I really enjoyed the soundtrack to this one, gave me some new songs/artists to explore :)
I love that trail. It has everything a mountain biker can ask for🤘🏿On my second go at it while riding along the rim I got caught in a monsoon down pour with lighting thrown in the mix that caused a small flash flood along the trail. My drive train was full of sand and grit after that ride. I thought it was ruined by it survived🤗
WE is still bucket list worthy I rode it in 2021. And that endless climb is followed by an endless high speed rock garden. At least you didn't get duped into doing the Palisade Plunge, I've heard mostly not so good things about it.
Ah man so cool to see you guys in my neck of the woods! Just rode this three weeks ago must have just missed ya! Thanks for the stoke! (Nice try on the Notch its fucking rugged) We have a saying that you climb your way downhill here.
That was great guys, I hope to be like your dad riding at his aged 🙏 I was fortunate to do the this trail and it was epic 🍻 and I was absolutely gas at the end, but that memory of riding the Porcupine Rim with the vies of the river of just beautiful, If anyone if thinking about doing please do so. Excellent content fellows thank you!
The Fuel EX was definitely the perfect bike for this trail. Enough travel and the right angles to handle all the aggressive terrain but also efficient enough for all the pedalling and flatter sections of trail. 100% recommend over the other options.
@@mahalomydude Excellent, I was thinking the same but just wanted to confirm. I've ridden mine only a handful of times but it's a very well balanced bike. I wasn't sold on it when it first came out, but I eventually decided to pull the trigger on one and really enjoy it more than I though and love how versatile it is. Thanks for the feedback!
Dude if you're not breaking shit and wishing you had brought more food and water, did you even do TWE? On a serious note I really wanna try the Notch. Didn't even go look at it last time, we just went straight down the Snotch which was fun but also plenty scary for me.

@@mahalomydude oh I've been checking every time a new video or pod drops since you first mentioned them, so maybe obsessed just a bit. That elevation pulls more water, along with it being dry dry. Definitely earned that enchilada and post ride drink
Forgetting to charge your battery sucks, but if you get into a routine and always bring a spare, I feel like it’s just not too big of an issue. And it’s nice how durable and precise the shifting is.

Absolutely! It gives me hope.
“Bumbled” down this trail in August! This vid does a perfect job of capturing what it was like. So sick!!
F*king dull Kazimer, with no expression in that face
This video has convinced me never to look into electronic drive train anytime soon ha. Super epic ride! Definitely has been added to the bucket list.
Knowing our luck, a derailleur cable would’ve snapped on a mechanical drivetrain anyway. 🤷♂️

In the desert, we call mountain areas, like La Sal, Sky Islands. The cooler climates and vegetation are such a relief from the summer desert.
