Wow. That was a weird trip down memory lane. I was manager there just before it shut. The room you left from was my beautiful living room with a huge marble fire place and beautiful ceiling rose and coving. The cellar was small and the cage in there was where we kept the bottles of spirits. The door which had private written on it led down a corridor to the garage and there was a kitchen in there too. The room at the back was the function room which had a small stage. The stairs in the upstairs dwelling led to the old hotel which was derelict when I moved in about 30 years ago. It was owned by Bass brewers and their offices were built onto the side of the building with a door which adjoined my flat. It was a very beautiful Victorian building , and also very creepy. It breaks my heart to see it as a ruin.
Hi Sharon, definitely a trip dowm memory lane. You organised my engagement party in the function room. I used to work in the area and would call in occasionally after work. The day that we made the booking, we got chatting about the history of the building and you, very proudly gave us a quick tour, including your beautiful living room. It's very sad to see such a beautiful building in this state.
@@guirichicho wow. I remember that. Such a long time ago. It was a beautiful building and it breaks my heart to see how it is now. Did I tell you the story about the ghost and the police?
Honestly, I think that it's a generational thing - urban exploring and all. The road less travelled must be taken when the other is blocked. I think that most of the more-experienced generation have taken the path that's now closed to the younger generation. I'm talking about the housing market, full-time jobs etc.
Critical Thinking 🤔 you’re thinking too critically. 😂😂 im jk. Tbh I have no idea why he doesn’t have more , I love urban exploring. Maybe he just hasn’t gotten his name out there yet. But I bet if you helped him he would be HUGE !!
If you look at at the number of views some of Matt's videos are getting, then compare that to other channels that supposedly have 100K+ subscribers, he is getting similar numbers. I bet that some channels (EWF, Proving Demons) are possibly buying subs. With the audience Matt is catering for, especially with the longer videos, not to mention the far higher quality of his post production work, he'll be at 50K+ soon. He could promote more, but I get the feeling that wholesale poncing/promoting of his channel isn't something he's into (ie: he often makes fun of the 'like, comment and buy merch' brigade) LOL
Ok, this comment is 3 years late but still: Oh! The one with Sting? I saw that movie on telly in the 90s or so as a teenager! I remember when Sting played the "Three Ways to Heaven" bit at the petrol station. I really need to look for this movie again and watch it with the hotel background.

I worked here in 1975 it was a really nice old fashioned hotel looks very different now, the manager at the time ran off with all the takings from the safe.
Amazing! That roof and those holes though...eek! I've been in lots of derelict buildings, sometimes alone...I stick to the outside of the room and don't walk out into the middle if I don't think it's solid...pretty hard to do when the room is full of junk though! Sadly I got gentrified out of Bristol a couple of years ago by insane rents...I'd love to do this again! I went in the old church in Kingswood and took lots of photos years ago, I think it's been developed into something fancy now...
Omg, I was placed in there for 4 months in 1987 by Bristol City Council while waiting to be housed, me and my son he was 2 months old at the time. My room window was level with the flyover that used to be there can't remember what number my room was, but I had a shower in my room. The place stank of damp and filth back then, can remember crying myself to sleep while I was there such a horrible place,
wow, im glad its brought back some memories for some people - shame its some bad ones for you, but hopefully life is better now so you can look back with some rose tinted specs.
The area between the two buildings was the old Railway viaduct that allowed trains to travel close to Temple Meads to Redcliff Hill and then onto the dock via the tunnel that's still there.

Hi I just want to make people aware of whats going on with this hotel. Basically the council are not passing any planning on this building over stupid little things like, "oh the look of the building wouldn't look good in the area and so on. Even if you took it back to original state as if it was first built in 1875, or even a modern carbon green hotel, offices and so on. The council are trying to force purchase the building from 'earlclout ltd' and change it to a modern building called 'engine shed 2' plaza and offices.
