Here we go with the folks who think legendary drummer implies a chop fest. He comes from a totally different place than most drummers. It's tribal, it's esoteric, it comes from the heart. It's bigger than all the chops and technique. Baker forever.

He's clearly burnt here. Starts freezing cold and warms up, but he's not got 'it'. That said, he's so talented, he pulls it off. Nothing special. This, from a Ginger Baker loving drummer.

Can't believe some of the rude comments here about his playing. He is 76 here and not in the same physical condition as he was 10 years earlier. I have heard many drum solos from him, and they are absolutely fantastic. And Bonham could never have played fast jazz music like Ginger. They are completely different drummers too. Give the guy a break!

I am a Blues Guy who finds this a little hard to relate to. It's all about timing, and the timing is impeccable. After all Ginger has done more than anyone who comments on this...he's sold/ played on more albums than you or me. So you have to respect him for that. Ginger's heart is in Jazz and he's got quite a resume, like him or not. Also he's studied with dangerous natives in Africa putting his own life on the line to learn drumming from tribes. Can you imagine how he'd stick out in that crowd? He did this many times not just once. Ginger does play the right stuff at the right time- it's probably why Clapton and Jack Bruce found him easy to play with on stage. Ginger is old now, and he's not about playing fast and spitting out notes in machine gun like succession, that's kind of cliche. Ginger's rhythm is very much right on. Although it's difficult for me to relate to because I lack Jazz-sensitivity, I like what Ginger does and I wouldn't change a note. I wouldn't change one note, and I think all in all it's a very cool rendition. It's a good example of "Less is more." Would Neal Peart add anything to this rendition???? No, if he was to let loose it would be a whole different tune. You wouldn't recognize what the drums are saying. So let's not be negative and listen to what Ginger and company are doing. Listen to what the drums are saying, don't lump on Ginger, he's still relevant.

And I am awear he recently passed away So hearing Lotsss more about him Now BUT You (like many other comments posted here) talked of his Age & Of course I Clearly SEE his Age w'out Everyone having 2 point It Out As Thats Common Sense BUT Ur story of him Left me "Liking" Him When Alot of interviews I came across Turned me Off because he Came Across RUDE. Just flat out Rude... but he had Alot of people that Saw his talent & flat out Liked him. Its a 'Good Thing' To See & get theres 2 Sizes 2 all thgs. U helped me "See" Some 1 special & We Sud Just give people the benefit of doubt. Its Soooo easy in this Day & Time to Just Hear Somethg like "Fake News" & LIKE Most Things NOW DAYS (Especially with Politics) WE Don't RESERCH the things We hear and/Or Read ! We just CAN'T Do that & MOST Of Us... Allll of Us need 2 Change That. So Nice Job helping Someone Not be So Judgemental.... 😚

twice in Philadelphia during Jack's A Question Of Time album tour late 89/early 90. Also saw him in Philly again a few weeks later with his own band featuring Jonas Hellbourge. There was no guitarist. Saw him a few years later at a Sea Girt, NJ drum shop holding a clinic for Ludwig. It was a Monday night and was storming like hell. I drove almost three hours to get there for the 7 pm show. His wife Karen was there with him. I brought a stack of albums for him to sign and he graciously autographed every one (the Ludwig rep got pissed at me for taking so much time. There were about 25 fans there). I was fortunate enough to see Ginger Baker's Jazz Confusion three years in a row in New Hope, PA. He played the exact same show from his last album Why during those final three tours, but it was incredible to be able to hear him play jazz up close. He was truly happy and taught everybody where he really came from. Thanks Ginger. You're forever in my heart.

He's got chronic pain from degenerative osteoarthritis of the spine, and spends most of his time that he isn't playing lying down or stretched out in a recliner. I can relate completely, having undergone spinal surgery myself to correct severe, chronic nerve pain. A series of misfortunes over decades have left him living a hand to mouth existence, so he went back to performing to make ends meet.

The context of the song is ridiculous. He lived to be 80 years old and never figured it out. A non-believer. His dad going off to World War II on the train, with Peter running after the train messed him up badly. His dad died in the war, for nothing, to make Zionist supported Churchill and his buddies rich. Peter had a mom. What happened to her? Another non-believer who did not properly nuture him? As an adult, he should have figured things out. But, smoking cigarettes, marijuana, and alcohol has detrimental affects on the brain. Our Lord tests us to see if we are true. He does not want weaklings in heaven. Only true believers who surrendered themselves to Our Lord and only Savior, Jesus Christ, get to enter heaven. Read the Holy Bible and believe!

Oh, boy! He was a junkie for about 60 years. And Jesus didn't come to test us--to see if we are true; he came to tell us that EVERYONE can be saved, if you believe that Jesus was the begotten Son of God. Jesus didn't test Job. The Lord let the devil influence him, but not allow him to lay a hand on him. King David also had a sorted past, as I have read.
So tell me T. Pick, how do you know what was in Ginger's heart? "Matthew 7:1-5 Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged. Your pejorative diatribe ISN'T GOING TO SAVE ANYONE. But I know where you should put YOUR Bible...thanks!

Unlike other drummers who EVOLVE over time, Ginger NEVER evolved. He plays the same weird beatnik British bebop anything-goes-screw-timing-and-tempo way he always did. Just slow as snails.

You mad? Pee Wee was one of James Brown's best and Alec Dankworth is an awesome bass player, Ginger describes him as the best bass player he's ever played with. Having played with Bill Frisell and Jack Bruce as well as about 100 others, that is some praise.
