The built in safety feature of the ratchet is impressive. At first, I thought - why not just put a fixed handle on it. But after seeing you switch the lathe on, I am converted. Great idea! Edit: It becomes a great way to drive the tailstock die holder too. Previously you had to move the chuck key from hole to hole, but with this method you can just ratchet the job through the die.
Ha, I was just making something similar, to remove a stuck on chuck...wish I'd looked beforehand and saved some trial and error. Thanks for the great video anyway, now I have other options.
@@enotsengineering Ah - as simple as a tool tray. I had picures in my mind of some fancy machine or jig or fixture up top :-) Thanks Alan. Speak soon, Craig

Hi I don't think you will get enough grip on the head stock with an expanding mandrel to remove a tight chuck.
PS: I'm really curious what the flat bar frame sat on top of your lathe headstock is? :-)
Hi Craig the bar has a tool try on the top
