Thanks for the vid! The trick with lining up the threading bit along side the chuck jaw was worth the price of admission so to speak!:) Have fun, G.

The more You have the micrometer blue, the better match You get with the taper 😁
With known tapers I always use my 100 millimetre sine bar.

I made a collet chuck once. Used it a few times and the inside got damaged considerably by the hardened collets.
In other words. You need to harden your work piece.

Not sure why you had damage. If all fits together as it should, there is no movement to cause damage. I have made my own ER32 holders in round, square and hex mild steel and have no detectable wear, let alone damage. Check your fit and taper, and no need to over tighten. 25 FT pounds max.

Thinking about it having worked on fitting an ER40, when you were talking about not pushing the collett too hard otherwise it would spring out of shape may I suggest inserting a very accurate bar or expanding arbor so that it retains the correct angle. Cheers

      Hi Ross
Yes you could use a small length of silver steel.

For reduction of run-out of bar, use 4-jaw chuck with dial gauge. It was obvious from your cut that the bar was way out of true.

    lovely job
    here's my 2p's worth
grind your parting off tool the other hand so the leading edge is tapered towards the left (tailstock) so the part that you part off doesn't have a bur
    left on it
this comes in very handy if your making shims which are hard to debur

Странно что автор не сделал ни захода ни схода для резьбы. На стандартном патроне они есть...
А так познавательно, хотя я не понял как точно выставили угол для точения внутреннего конуса?

    Hello Alan
Need to make one of these as well. Always wondered about that Taper. Need to read and check up on that, a little more. However, seeing U doing this makes it so much easier, simpler and all the more possible. What we feared was only our own ignorance !!
Will "get 'er done" - like The Man Says !!!
    Thanks for showing and sharing

      Hi
The cutter grinder is a kit from hemingwaykits.com. See my video making a tool and cutter grinder It shows what you get in the kit. ua-cam.com/video/UvubIfmWaIw/v-deo.html

Thank you Alan. Such a fabulous kit. I will certainly look into this as well as your video. I currently have a Taylor Hobson cutter grinder that is in need of tlc. I need to weigh up whether to spend time and money fixing the Taylor Hobson or perhaps go for a Hemingway kit. Thank you for the inspiration. I am a total novice, loads of enthusiasm. Now to put that into practice.
