Designed with filmmakers in mind, these lenses offer a consistent weight and size, making them ideal for gimbal work and travel. They're sharp, they have true color tone, and an overall aesthetic appeal, all without breaking the bank. We'll also explore their compatibility with Samyang's 1.7x Anamorphic Adapter, unlocking creative possibilities for anamorphic footage on a 'budget'.

For those who shoot with Sony, I'm curious to hear your favorite lens that you have or have used 🤔 let me know!
Excellent demo. A download of insight, but also well shot and edited, as well as entertaining. A huge help in an every growing world of quality glass.
Thanks so much! I really appreciate you saying that 🙏🏼
Love the video! Keep up the great work! Can’t believe the weight is the same across most of them. That’s awesome!
Thanks so much, dude! Right? That's really what drew me in. They're all the same weight as one of my favorite 'budget' Sony lenses, the 35mm f1.8. Pretty impressive stuff.
@@dylanjohndickerson For sure! Super handy for gimbal work.
Great! Thanks Dylan👍
Thanks for watching, Peter!
Just grabbed and tested in local camera gear expo. They were quite interesting lenses, especially when tested with newly launched anamorphic adapter.
That they are! Thanks for sharing.
I would love to know which one you would pick between the V-AF 45mm and the Samyang 50mm Mark II. 🙏
Thanks for the great video.
Great review and amazing shots, dylan! This is interesting, I like the character too, it is more special than a clinical clean sony lens. The anamorphic adapter really sparked my interest. How is it to use? If the Auto Focus is not great, maybe the new DJI Focus Pro LiDar unit would do a great job here? Have you tried that one? And the weight and size being the same is very nice too. Would love to get all these, but it will get pretty expensive to get the mall, but maybe a 24, 50 and 100mm and the Anamorpic adapter. Then I would be very happy :-)
Thanks so much, dude! Glad to see you still a part of the channel even though you're using FCP less and less. The anamorphic adapter is really cool. It goes on the end of any of the cine autofocus lenses. The issue is that you'll need a 95mm matte box if you want to add any ND or Mist. And likely you'll at least need some ND filter slides if you're going to shoot wide open with it. As far as post production, you just destretch it in post. I was going to make a video on that in the next few weeks, but it'd be in Final Cut Pro.
I actually haven't tried it! But I assume it would. Only way to know for sure is if I pick it up and do some tests. I'll reach out to a shop here to see if they have it in stock.
Great review! You should really do more of these! Minor thing: At 00:48 you say that the footage is from a 24mm. Is that really so? The compression makes it look much more like a 50 or 75…
Nice to see you here, Wasim 🙂
Looks like a 24 to me, just a shallow depth of field.
@@vegardpedersen You too man 😊
Yep, Brandon is right. It's a 24mm but it's being shot wide open at f1.8.
@@dylanjohndickerson ok thanks 😊
those Pipes! 💪
😅 thanks amigo! I’ve been trying to work on them and gain some size. Thanks for noticing 👊🏼
Hi, Dylan. I'm a hybrid shooter that mostly shoots still and videos occasionally. Do you think this lens, especially the 45mm is a good pick?
I had my eye on samyang's own 45mm f1.8 but the bokeh balls on that is kinda icky.
Hey there! I like the 45 a lot. I thought I wouldn't use it since I prefer a 35mm focal length often but the 45 is really solid.
I see Splash the Otter has made his appearance 😁
😄 that he did, my friends!
Wondering if i put a nd filter/ step up ring in front of the len can i still see the telle light?
you can't, but there's still a light on the side of the lens.
Ya Nick is right. Unfortunately the ND filter blocks out that light, but the light on the side still shows of course.
I will add that if you use a 58mm filter then youll still be able to see the front tally light. any bigger filter and it'll cover the light.
@@nickxiong26 Ah interesting. Makes sense considering I just have some 72mm filters as of now
Dang these lenses cause so much distortion, they making you look like the Hulk! ;-). Thanks for the video, man!
😂 maybe Captain America if I'm lucky
Dustin Abbott and Arthur R did in-depth reviews and tests of these lenses (without anamorphic adapter) and they found that the distortion was comparatively mild. The anamorphic adapter (like nearly all anamorphics) has quite a bit of barrel distortion, especially on shorter focal length lenses.
@@russellcameronthomas2116 Thanks for the info, but I didn't really think the lenses caused distortion. I was teasing Dylan because he's been hitting the gym.
@@Jay_Bird 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💙
I wonder if these new version has the same optical formula or optical quality as their photo lens version. Because I can see each focal length has exact photo lens version there. For people does not care about extra accessories and build quality, if the image quality is the same and the price is lower, the photo version can be good choice.
which is best for video

So many reviewers being sent products and then claiming that they aren't biased. It's a rough game. I'd like to see reviewers purchase products and review them. Maybe someday it'll become law, who knows.
I totally get it and you're right in a certain regard. However, I'm sent lots of items/requests to review products and I turn down 98% of them. This is also true of other UA-camrs I know. Like I mentioned in the video, I wouldn't do a review unless I thought they'd benefit some of my subscribers, you know?
Also, I did mention the flaws in the video and specifically stated that if this is a con that you can't have in your lens, then look to another option. If I was unfairly biased, I would've left that part out. I try to be impartial but of course there's naturally some bias in what I say and that's because I like the product.
@@dylanjohndickersonI get it and to be clear, I’m not accusing you of being biased since I don’t know that for a fact so it would be irresponsible of me to do that. However, the established practice of reviewers receiving products at no personal cost and then reviewing it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. It feels like sending money to a judge before he tries your case in public: sure the judge may remain impartial but the appearance of impropriety is there by way of the acceptance of my gift before hand.
Again, I’m not saying you aren’t honest in your reviews, it’s just the entire trade system seems sketchy.
By the way, the actual video is very well done. I really enjoyed it. You’re a very talented content creator and I look forward to more of your work. Keep it up.
@@creative.lights You're right brotha! I do agree with you. If someone does something nice for you, it's very hard to then go and bad mouth something they created. This does put creators in an interesting dilemma. It gets even more complicated when money is exchanged.
I really appreciate that, Joel 🙏🏼 thanks for the kind words and the support man.
If the products aren’t returned after the review - it’s a sponsored video. Simple as that. And that’s ok as long as you’re honest about it.
