I have fitted tec rear shocks not the shrouded as not available anymore would like to fit the front as the roads here in northern ireland are third world standard could it be done sitting on the side stand only great video
Hi Sam. I think that may be difficult as you really need to lift the front just enough to take the weight off the front suspension. Although you do one side at a time, if the springs are still under compression it will be difficult to get them in and out. Cheers.
JUST FITTED THESE REAR SHOCKS AND DOES GIVE A SMOOTHER RIDE AS THE ROADS IN KENT ARE NOT MAINTAINED WELL. NOW TO FIT THJE FRONT UPGRADE. THANK YOU FOR A STRAIGHT FORWARD VIDEO WHICH GIVES ME THE CONFIDENCE TO DO THIS WELCOME UPGRADE MYSELF.
I'm afraid roads in the UK generally are just getting worse, not better and anything that makes our rides safer and more enjoyable has got to be good. Glad you found my video of help, hope you have lots of fun on your Goldie. Cheers.
Great video, watched it all even though I'm only looking at the Goldie and haven't taken the plunge. The suspension was an issue as the roads I ride in Kent are pretty holey... as in 'Holy Crap' is the bike still in one piece ;)
Thanks Mark. The state of the roads is pretty dire all over I'm afraid and like most production bikes, the suspension is a compromise. The rear shocks I fitted are no longer available but there are a number of alternatives from both TEC and others such as Hagon. Hope you eventually get one, I'm sure you'll love it. Cheers.
Our roads in NZ 🇳🇿 are shocking as well & I encountered freshly dropped gravel a inch deep on a corner on country road & corner sloped away from me so couldn't see gravel till to late.My mates were behind me so went left & lost it & crashed. If mates weren't behind me on more powerful bikes would of gone right.Gravel is my nemisis now. New fork springs make a big upgrade as do the rears must handle good now.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Done a few hundred miles now since the upgrade and very happy with it. The ride is generally smoother and it copes with our rough roads a bit better. Certainly worth doing. Cheers.
It's actually not a very tall bike, in fact some people have commented about it looking small. I'm 5ft 8in with a 30in inside leg and sit comfortably on it with both feet flat on the ground. I don't think there are any shorter springs available for it at present, certainly not seen any and a 2in drop sounds a bit much to me. Could be wrong. Cheers.
Hi there, here's a thought...! Vehicles need an MOT to show they are wothy of to be on the road, so why don't British roads need to have an MOT to prove they are worthy to be driven on??? I live in Switzerland and drove by car, over from here to my brother in Sussex last Easter. I usually fly, but now being retired, I wanted to stay for a few weeks and explore up north, having only ever seen the home counties before becoming an expat, many moons ago in Switz. All went well from Switzerland to Sussex. After Easrer, I left him to drive overland up to Berwick on Tweed. Whilst there, I noticed on the way up, i'd lost 3 hub caps on my Mazda between Horsham and Berwick. This all fitted in with the conversation I had with my brother about the aweful condition of British country roads!!!
If only. Unfortunately our roads have fallen into such a state that the county councils, who have to fund the repairs, can not now keep up with it. I fear that things will only get worse for the foreseeable future. Thanks for watching, hope you found it interesting. Cheers.
First of all a great attitude to start the video, but I would like your thoughts on the power of the bike and more on the handling of the bike after the shocks and fork springs change out. How do you feel about the fit and finish of the New BSA? All the best from an admiring Yank!
Sorry I haven't replied earlier, must have missed your comment. Glad you enjoyed the video. I'm just coming up to 2000 miles covered on Goldie and I'm planning to do a review of the bike in the next couple of weeks so keep an eye out for it. Cheers.
l am giving serious thought into getting a BSA and this was an excellent video on doing the upgraded suspension. Do you ride with a pillion and if so does it cope with extra weight ok
Excellently bikes I love mine but only ride solo. There have been posts on the various new Goldie Facebook pages from those who do take pillion passengers that say they cope with no problem. Glad you liked the video. Cheers
For what is the Road Tax used for then in UK?? This Tax in Switzerland is partly used for, just as it says in it's name, the ROADS. Serious question here though..., for what is the Road Tax used for in UK does anybody know?
That is a very good question, but one to which I doubt you will get a straight answer. Certainly the original purpose of it was to go towards the upkeep of the roads. I suspect that nowadays, it just dissappears into that black hole with all other taxes and will get wasted on multi million pound schemes that end up either getting scrapped or benefit few people. Just my synical opinion.
@@old-n-Goldie That's incredibly cheap. It'll be interesting to see how long they go before seals go etc. Mindst, Tec are a reputable firm and any warranties would be honoured I imagine.
I probably wouldn't have left the nuts off when priming, I know it's quite safe, but there's always a chance it could flip off the rubbers?. Anyway, very good video👍
Really good bit of spanner work there Rog. And those rear shocks are more in keeping with the look of the bike. 👍
Thanks Nick. Yes, I agree, they suite the style better.
Cheers
Rog.
Nice and simple presentation and explanations - good job and thanks.
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it and hope you found it useful.

Thanks, they do seem to have improved the ride.

seems a good upgrade for the money ;;
Yes, I'm quite pleased with it.

Wow, I'll get mine done too, Thank you

Is the exhaust the stock one
Thanks for watching, hope you found it interesting.
The exhaust is stock, complete with baffles and cat.

Hi old n goldie, great video! But how many turns to adjust the pre-load ??? Cheers !
Nicely done.
Thanks, much appreciated,
Cheers
The shrouded rear shocks now match the shrouded front forks
Yes, improved the overall looks.
Cheers
What type of rear paddock stand are you using I am having difficulty finding one that locates on the swing arm and clears the exhaust
You won't find one that fits without modification. Mine was a cheap ebay purchase that I cut and welded to fit.
Cheers.
Great video, thank you. What's the verdict after a few more miles? Is the fork upgrade worth it?
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
Done a few hundred miles now since the upgrade and very happy with it. The ride is generally smoother and it copes with our rough roads a bit better. Certainly worth doing.

Thank you. Only 300 miles in on mine so far but want to tweak/upgrade a few bits as you have. Keep the videos coming; really enjoy them.
Can you fit about 2 inch lower front springs and rear shocks? It looks a bit tall for me.
It's actually not a very tall bike, in fact some people have commented about it looking small.

The shocks really finish it off
Yes, I think they suit the style of the bike more than the open spring ones.

Yes, I think so too.

Shocks at £79.99p a pair...did I hear that correctly??
Yes, thats correct, £79.99 the pair.
@@old-n-Goldie That's incredibly cheap. It'll be interesting to see how long they go before seals go etc. Mindst, Tec are a reputable firm and any warranties would be honoured I imagine.
Yes that is cheap and we'll see how they last but tec parts are usually good quality and they certainly work well now.

Good point, could have just put them on finger tight for safety I suppose.
