Thank you for showing the entire process, including the splash guard cover. Telling us the Torx size for the cover screws and the metric socket size of the oil plug helped a lot as well.
I love how they put all these splash guards, I understand that they protect the bottom engine, But if you want to make sure later on your oil drain plug is still tight and oil filter you have to take the guard just to check it
They are not needed. They are for air flow under the car to save 0.0001 MPG. I take them all off because all they do is hold salty water up here in the North and cause rusting
Clint Simmons the felt covering should be able to be reused. If for some reason it has broken off or is falling about you could get away without it on the car but should probably get a replacement piece when you can.
Clint, I've got a '13 focus that does not have the splash guard. I live down a true dirt road and have noticed mud and dirt build up underneath the car. I'm pretty sure of the splash guard was in place I wouldn't have the build up. Gonna clean it out and put in a replacement guard to see if that helps
The purpose of the shield is to prevent road splash whether water (most likely) and other dirt/debris getting under there. An example would be water splashing the alternator which is pretty low on my 2016.
Well sorry this is a customer’s car and this video is awhile ago. I can only see what’s in the video. If it is that white thing just above the oil filter as shown in the video, that is an oil pressure sensor. It can very well leak if the gasket or O-ring has failed.
I've a 2016 Focus SE 2.0 L GDI engine . Does anyone know why change oil light would come on after only three weeks since I changed it ?? Both national Ford rep and local dealer service rep said it didn't even have this feature ..
Where are the safe places to place the jack under the car to lift it up? I did get the thinner- thickness rolling jack as my old one would not roll under the car. No mention of how the car is raised...
I usually drain most of what comes out of the pan first, then hand tighten the drain plug back and remove the oil filter. Then I loosen the drain plug one more time to catch any more oil that has been release from the oil filter housing area.
You can get the motor oil directly from Ford if you would like. It actually is competitively priced in my area to Match Autozone or Oreilly auto parts.
Should be 5w-20 oil. You would need to check the owners manual to look up the correct specifications and grades. Ford dealership can help you with this as well.
@@frankmontez6853 Sometimes the Walmart oil will state on the container what cars manufacturers are covered, however if you have your owners manual, consult that.
It will be hard. You can buy those car ramps that you can drive up onto to. That will be the most cost effective while still making your job that much easier.
Some cars have a system in place that will inform you when you should change the oil. These cars do. Idk if it would depend on what trim level you have but this car does have one in this video. You can also check the owners manual to look up the oil change interval. Check my channel for how to reset the oil light on this car.
I don’t give mileage intervals away like that. Because there is a chance that you can be very wrong. I always advise checking the owners manual. This way we get the correct information and not just hearsay.
Helping Hand Auto Repair yeah. I haven’t seen it in the manual but that’s what ford said if you use like a synthetic blend just change it every 5000 miles.
Helping Hand Auto Repair I’m only 16😂 I gotta 18 focus and fixing to do my first oil change. Your video is actually really helpful thanks for sharing it!
Not necessary. Your car dry starts every morning you get into it. On large engines like semi trucks I would because those filters hold more than a gallon of oil and sometimes there are two of those. On cars it honestly is personal preference. I never have filled one EVER. Been doing oil changes on cars for the past 17 years. Not one problem with any of my customer’s cars or my own. My personal truck has 328k miles on the original engine. Not one problem.
There is a rubber gasket that fits into the drain plug but there is no need to replace it every time. I replace mine maybe once every year or two. You can purchase a box of 10 from Dorman super cheap.
Great Video and good at explaining procedure. One basic mistake was he failed to fill the oil filter with fresh oil prior to installing on engine. This means the engine is running with zero oil pressure until the oil pump fills the filter and then the engine oil passages.
Sorry but I have to Disagree. I always fill my filter with oil also. That is why the Oil Filters have Anti Drain Back Valve. So they don't have a Dry Startup.

I usually put oil in the filter so no dry starts especially that kind of filter
Alot of manufacturers don't recommend that as you could introduce contaminants. 🤷♂️🤷♂️ To each their own though.
Start up and shut off twice very quickly will prime it
@@colefeemster4845 if you read the box of the motorcraft oil filter, it says to add oil to the new filter before installing.
Thank you, it was well done and helpful.

I always make sure that seal is oiled when the missus needs her oil changing..
What's that little white cap thingy up to the right of the oil filter. Is it supposed to leak?
The electrical connector?

What is the kind/type of the oil filter for focus 2017?
Whatever brand you want. Just go to the parts store a pick one out of the choices they give you.

Consult your owners manual. Also a google search would probably bring it up.
Dont you fill the new oilfilter first before fitting.
Depends on how the oil filter is oriented.
Is there a reason you don't drain all the oil before changing the filter?
I usually drain most of what comes out of the pan first, then hand tighten the drain plug back and remove the oil filter. Then I loosen the drain plug one more time to catch any more oil that has been release from the oil filter housing area.
Helpful video. I'd like to see where to put the jack to lift car and where to put jack stands
Thanks
Fantastic, got a cc3 except mines a silly looking inner nut thing (looks like a locking wheel nut kinda shape), but in side out 😂
Can you replace the adapter that holds the oil filter
The oil filter housing? I’m sure you could. Is yours damaged?
WM oil isn't labeled with specs ( you know those numbers WSS945 or 960 ) . How can you look it up ?

Is there a crush washer on the drain plug
P Mc no, there is one built into the drain plug.
Is it possible to do this without jack stands? Or will I have a really hard time?
It will be hard. You can buy those car ramps that you can drive up onto to. That will be the most cost effective while still making your job that much easier.
Don't use anything other than motorcraft oil filters on variable valve timing ford engines. Seen issues on 3v Ford 5.4's that used aftermarket filters
