I’m very impressed with your insights on analyzing the possibility of CCP invading Taiwan. Especially confident with your analysis due to your former military background and real combat experience. Not to say that Taiwan should let their guard down but instead your reasonable statement can enhance our confidence to further strengthen our defense capabilities, also, hope some Taiwanese can stop listening to those untrusted rumors from unreliable sources.
After just watching your first video, I can tell that not only you appreciate arts but perhaps you may have some unrealized artistic talent as well. ❤
Lastly, I wanted to welcome you to Taiwan to start another chapter of your life journey, and glad that you enjoyed living there so far.

My favorite passage from this video:
"any country that lets its artist bloom, that's a really good sign of a good place to live."
Indeed, like magnets, this country, this city, and people with connotation and artistic vision attract each other...
    最喜歡這部影片的一段話:「一個能讓藝術家發光發熱的國家,就是一個適合居住的國家」。的確就像磁鐵一樣,這個國家、這個城市,與有內涵、有藝術眼光的人,互相吸引著彼此⋯。

Welcome to Taiwan. I'm glad to hear you compare Japan with Taiwan. Japan is indeed a very clean and safe country. We are somewhat similar to Japan because we were colonized by Japan before. Many of my grandmother's generation grew up under Japanese education, so you will see that Taiwan still retains a lot of Japanese architecture and culture. When Japan's economy took off in the early days, it had a strong cultural influence on Taiwan. Even now, many people are still crazy about Japanese-made technology products, Japanese dramas, animations, video games, toys, cosmetics, food, etc. These influences still exist today. In addition, Taiwanese people’s favorite country to travel abroad is Japan, and many people have business dealings with Japan. The two countries are basically in a friendly state. I believe there is a lot that the two countries can learn from each other.

    • @jeromebesson
      @jeromebesson Місяць тому

Please, pretty please, say, “We were Europeanized by Japan. We were put on the world map by Japan. Japan built the foundation of Taiwanese sovereignty. Taiwan is “made-in-Japan”. Taiwan is Japanese to the marrow. The soul of Taiwan is infused with Bushido. When Japan surrendered, the last batch of high school graduates deemed themselves Japanese from the Japanese island of Taiwan. When Japan surrendered, Taiwan (& Penghu) was legally as Japanese as Hawaii would become American in 1959.”
How do you think Manchuria, Mongolia, Xinjiang became Chinese? China does not conquer by the strength of its weapons. China sends its tired, poor, huddled masses yearning to breathe free, wretched refuse of her teeming shores, the homeless, tempest-tost to conquer China’s lebensraum. Next China uses the soft power of her culture to assimilate the “savages”. Keep the Darién Gap open, and California will go the way of Manchuria.
The early Truman administration was a carry-over of the Moscow agents-infiltrated FDR administration. American useful idiots unloaded Chiang “Peanut” Cash-my-check on Japanese Taiwan and 2 million illegal Chinese immigrants overwhelmed Japanese Taiwan, population 6 million back then. With a reluctant nod from the US, unlawful Chinese settlers Sinicized and de-Nipponized Japanese Taiwan.
Owing to Kim Il-sung’s invasion of South-Korea, President Truman suddenly remembered that, if the Chinese already ON Japanese Taiwan were occupying Japanese Taiwan, the US was nonetheless the “principal occupying power” ON Japanese Taiwan. And John F. Dulles prevailed on Shigeru Yoshida not to cede Japanese Taiwan to China, to any China.
If gauged by the looks and sounds of a recently but ruthlessly Sinicized political and unlawful Taiwan, the ties that unite legal and spiritual Taiwan and Japan seem as tenuous as wisps of smoke. But try cutting through smoke wisps.

Just came back after vacationing one month in Taiwan for the first time. My first and foremost impression is the feeling of complete safety everywhere I went. I was amazed to see the locals leaving their belongings in public places (e.g. helmets on scooters, bags on tables in food courts while they go to the washroom). I am from Canada which is a decently safe country but we would never consider leaving valuables in public places like that. Other positive impressions are the courteous and helpful people, especially those who are in the service professions. The food scene is also amazing - combination of variety, quality, creativity, and affordability. The public transportation system (MRT, local trains, high speed trains, and tourist shuttles) are affordable and efficient. Not so positive impressions are lack of sidewalks in most of the older neighborhoods, the smell of stagnant drainage just about everywhere, and the mild level of smog in most of the cities. Overall the positives far outweigh the negatives. I would definitely revisit Taiwan in the future.

Always!

Unlike most Americans, you speak very slow and clear English which really help people understanding your videos (your students are lucky to have you as teach). I used to live in kaohsiung for almost 12 years after my military service and considered it as my hometown. Have been living San Francisco for almost 30 years, I am still missing kaohsiung and friends who live there. I believe you made a right choice.

    American
    Kind, straight ,considerate
    and courteous.

This is the key point of your success

But after more than 30 years backpack travel to quite some countries, i really appreciate my luck to be born here. Now i know- the normal daily life for us, in some countries, it' just a dream hard to make it.
Kaoshung is a city full of passion. Every time when i visit there, even i'm a taiwanese, still quite touched by it.
Glad to see so many art in ur video, make me feel i should pay a visit again.

I still want to remind you that while there are many friendly people in Taiwan, it doesn’t mean there are no bad individuals or scammers. If someone tries to approach you and say something, remain cautious. I’ve seen cases of foreign UA-camrs letting their guard down due to Taiwan’s generally safe environment and falling victim to scams. I hope you can enjoy Taiwan’s safety without losing your vigilance.

      尤其是二手車,二手摩托車市場,非常黑暗又坑人!
      所以,在台灣買東西最好買新的!
      安全,品質也很好!

Welcome to Taiwan. As someone born in Taiwan and lived in three western countries for over two decades, I'd say I can appreciate Taiwan even more after moving back here.
You are not so wrong about Taiwan being the child of China and Japan. As you probably learned the history of Taiwan, it was colonised by imperial Japan for 50 years before the end of WW2 so it's heavily influenced by Japanese culture. The messy aspects in Taiwan, are most likely inherited from the Chinese culture. This is not meant to be derogatory of China, but rather an observation of its culture.
