Old peanut butter jar? Just like my mom does..totally legit.
Its awesome right. Ive used old p.b jars for change but seeing her do that opened a whole new world lol.
That's how I do it and now my daughter is doing the same. it's funny how we pass things down to our children unaware of us doing so.
I'm not Haitian at all but I am enjoying watching and learning from you. thanks!
Thank you for watching love!
I thought I was the only non Haitian one watching 😂
Im from Puerto Rico and I have lost of Haitian friend d I love there food
I’m not Haitian but my hubby is and he’s really enjoying the food I’m learning to cook watching Lamise’s videos. Your recipes are authentic to what I’ve tasted at my in laws homes and Haitian restaurants.
Fun fact, this spice is completely vegetable and natural seasoning based! So it’s super safe to use!
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I am part Haitian and grew up eating all the delicious food! Thanks to you my Children will get to experience this food too.
You are so welcome love! Happy Holidays!
Oh wow. I had no idea leeks were just giant scallions.
They are not but they are all related to onions.
I usually dont comment on you tube but your videos are amazing! Very simple to follow. I'll try your spice that I just made for the first time with my dishes. I'm not Haitian but my husband is and I love the food. I cant wait to surprise him. Keep posting simple cooking techniques. I look forward to viewing and trying something new.❤👍💃🍷
I'm not Haitian but my children are and I love learning different ways to cook and my kids love their haitian dishes. So I want to to make these delicious dishes for them. Thank you for the tips, appreciate it.
it looks delicious ! do you know Maggie cubes contain msg mosodium glutamate. it gives me headaches and I was told it's very bad for you. with all those lovely seasoning you add have tried cooking without it?
same. i do not use them at all.
It wouldn't be Haitian with out the maggi
I think we can use other chicken bouillon cubes. I use an organic one without sodium.
That was proven not to be true, though it can cause headaches. www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2018/03/20/why-americans-still-avoid-msg-even-though-its-health-effects-have-been-debunked/
My new favorite youtube cooking channel! I know how to cook a lot of Haitian food because my manman did not play with me on Saturday mornings lol, but there are some things I didn't learn too because I was trying to be American. Unfortunately diabetes caused my maman to be blind and she stopped cooking. Thanks you can I pass on many of our recipes to my daughter and what's awesome is you have actual measurements. Sorry if I am fangirling!
No need to be sorry sis! Me reading the comments is the best way for me to connect with you all. Thank you for taking your time to share with me ❤️
Pls how long can we keep this in the fridge? Great video by the way!
I’m excited I found your channel, I’m a reg white girl but love all cuisine. Especially spicy.. Saw your Haitian spaghetti and I was drooling. So smart the epis all those veggies and spice together in a paste type , in a jar? Who knew? lol I’d like to add cilantro??
Now tomorrow I will make the epis then the spaghetti! And more! Going shopping. OMG thank you!
Welcome to the channel love! Hopefully you'll find all you need in the channel.
Lamise O thank you, I’m very excited...
Never added cloves to mine....heres a friendly tip I strain mines and put the water in a bottle to save for my soup broths and rice and save the (Ma) left over chucks (forgot the english word for it) ..for sautee'ing ?? (-_-) my beans, etc. looks good mama
Girl you just saved my life! Do you have healthy versions of Haitians recipes? I just discovered your page.
Do you ever put hot peppers in your spice? If you did how much would you suggest, and what kind (Scotch Bonnet?)?
Great video...I never knew leeks could be used in a seasoning so thanks for that...I notice you didnt use an acid . eg lemon or lime does that mean the colour will change over time? No problem....love the video and thanks for the teaching.
Is that stored in the fridge and for how long does it last?
Am Trini we have been doing that for many years, living up here does our own recipes every two weeks.
You never put in the fresh thyme.
My dear Lamise I like the way that you made haitien spice but I prefere to blind everything with olive oil instead to add water.
Thank you my dear!!
Love this recipe, I will definitely be making this. Thank you
Thank you!
Did you use all 6 leeks or can I just use 3
I will make it with garlic, clove, black pepper, scallion, persil+persil, but absolutely no bell and habanero peppers or Maggi by doing so I will keep it as true haitian mix.
Thank you for helping me connect to my distant heritage 💜
I am from Botswana and i love haitian food and i love your channel. I am going to make this spice
I know this is an older video, but could you please tell me the type/brand of blender you use? I just tried to make the epis, but my blender won't even budge unless I cut the leaks SUPER tiny. Thank you!
I no longer have that blender. I’m currently using a Hamilton brand blender and I love it. I have to say I start with the chop option then purée. Thank you for watching!
Thank you so much for easy to follow cooking recipes and styles ! I am Haitian and I'm so proud to watch you ! 👏🏾👏🏾🎉🎉❤️❤️
question about epis. I was told that adding water will make it spoil faster to only use oil to preserve it? help
I add water to mine and I've never had an issue, but my aunt only adds oil to hers. Its totally your own preference. I do freeze most of it though...Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
Summer Joseph she cook like a American Haitian instead of a real Haitian way they way I do things
Oil or vinegar
I’m African American and I’m in ❤️❤️❤️with your videos so helpful. I just ❤️Haitian food and now I can TRY making so of them. Thank you so much for sharing.
MoeMoe you sound really stupid. Where is it written that YOUR WAY is the "real Haitian way" as opposed to the "Haitian American way???" There's no REAL, WRONG, or RIGHT way to cook a recipe. You make it your own. Please, for the sake of not embarrassing yourself in the future, learn to actually THINK before posting. It's obvious your brain needs a good workout....🤦🏾♀️
How long can you keep it in the fridge and freezer?
this really looks very good and I also heard you say that you can add other things to it I love spicy and my children do too so I think I would also put in a couple of Scotch bonnet peppers and maybe some cilantro and also I'm asking you if you do not freeze all of it how long will it last in refrigerator because I want to know how much I should stay in the refrigerator without it going bad thank you so much
+anita lawson Hi Anita, I usually keep enough in the fridge to last me about 3 weeks, some people might even keep it in the fridge for a longer period. Yes you can definitely add scotch bonnet peppers to it, or any other spices. I have little kids that's why I didn't add any hot peppers. happy spice making :)
If I want to use green scallions instead of leeks how many of scallion stalks do I use
Love this reminds me of my moms cooking! We out here bout to make my own!
Merci I been trying to make some myself for awhile and my aunt’s are the cooks in my family lol 😂 I will be DEFINITELY WATCHING ALL YOUR RECIPES bonjour Avec ou 🙏🏽
Magi criyolito is the best
can i add vinegar or lime juice instead of water? Because this is what i usually use
you could try. I've never added vinegar of lime because I don't want my rice to have the acid taste. I use this seasoning in my rice and beans as well
Some add these things if they are going to use it on meat only.
How long is it good till it spoils ? And how long will freezing it make it last ?
It should last a month or so in the freezer. I have some that I've been using for about 3 weeks in my fridge
Thank you so much for sharing! I just made a big huge batch to marinate the beef for Bouillon Bouef! Love your videos!
Hi,
How do you freeze your Haitian spices? Do you put them in an ice cube tray and simply freeze them, or is there a special method?
I usually freeze mine in a container, but you can definitely freeze them in a ice cube tray. Thank you for watching!
Hiii mwen fenk suscribe nan chanel ou an men mwen pa pale anglais siw te ka fè bèl video sa yo an kreyòl li tap yon bèl travay nan kominote ayisyen an.
video Kreyol yo ap vini sou yon channel Kreyol mwen ap fe. mesi anpil!
I saw that you had 3 leeks and 3 garlics in your hand but your recipe calls for 6 leeks and 2 garlics. Do I stick to the recipe list?
Sorry if I confused you! whatever I have listed in the description box is the exact amount I used. I blended some off camera as well....didn't want to bored you cause with the blending process. I just listed how much I used, but you can definitely use more or less. Thank you!
Okay awesome. No worries on the confusion. Gonna try to make this by this weekend. Wish me luck lol.
Good Luck! I'm here if needed lol
Lamise O with the leeks...do I use the whole leek or chop off the very top rough parts?
I cut the top and the ends off.
By the way, I have with great delight subscribed to your channel :-)

Thank you so much for your videos! I am not Haitian but I have learned to cook Haitian food watching your videos. Thank you I’m a big fan I watch all your videos!!
Thank you so much! I deeply appreciate the love and support!
Hi Lamise, Your video is awesome. Thank you so much for caring to share the great skills you inherited from your ancesters :-)
I am a lover of good home cooked food that is prepared from natural raw ingredients. I am of West Indian (Vincentian and Grenadian) parentage and have been making a conscious effort to omit as much additives from my meals as possible.
I love your home made seasoning which is very similar to what we (my family) make using the food processor (that way we are not compelled to adding the water).
God bless you abundantly and thank you so very much for sharing, inspiring and teaching many of us how to fall in love with cooking delicious tasting food :-)
This is why I love sharing my recipes, because of sweet , kind people like yourself Hazell77. Reading your comments gives me so much courage to continue this UA-cam journey. I greatly I appreciate your kind words! #mycaribbeanladies
+Lamise O how long can it last in the fridge
1 month.... I usually freeze the rest. Thanks for watching!
+Lamise O I found the video, thank you!! Sorry to bother you.. ☺ 💕
Thank u Lamise O . I love ur channel. I'm Cape Verden but I swear I should have been hatian. I love hatian food more than my own. Ur channel has taught me so much. Ur recipes are easy and delicious.
Hi Lamise O, I thoroughly enjoy your videos and have learned to make so many Haitian dishes from you. You only showed three leeks but listed 6 on the ingredient list. Which is it?
Thank you so much! I actually used 6. I wanted a little extra more to freeze
Sorry for the confusion!
How long does it last
How can I make this but cut the recipe in half? I don't need that much.
I love the way you cook. 💗
THAT was a lot of Black Pepper, hahaha! I thought you were gonna make all of that. You should try using ice cube trays and fill them up with your spice, freeze them and use as needed. Just an idea...
Gina Pocan good idea
Gina Pocan that would be a lot of ice cube trays lol. My family would you the ice cream containers.
Gina Pocan.
I tried to search for chicken maggi cubes online but the wrappers do not look the same. I found a brand on ebay called El Criollito Maggi/Bouillon Cubes and it is the exact size and shape as what you are using in your video even though the wrapper does not say maggi. is Maggie cubes just a generic name that you call this type of bouillon Cube?
yes it is. Maggie is basically chicken bouillon
good job
my mom use scallions when she make hers now i know how to it i dont use leak my graundma did in hers when she was alive
Love your videos But you don’t use black pepper Why
How much Thyme do I put in? Does it have to be Freash Thyme?
your epis look more normal I like it better this way then the other one I've been watching
Are cloves essential to the spice? Not sure if my supermarket has them?
Simple instructions. Thank you so much for posting the ingredients to your video.
So damn similar to Nigerian cooking
WOWWW!!! Thats so coool to know that!!!!!
Thats reealllyyy cooool to know that

What flavor cube did you use?
Hi, how long can you keep it in the refrigerator for?
yesss I so appreciate your videos thanks for sharing!!!!!!
You should sell this on a website.
Very good! I have only ever made the yellow epis, so it was great to see how to make the green epis.
so how long it will last I will try that soon
what kind of camera do you use?
+belledamebebe Samsung HMX-H204 Full High Definition 1920x1080 Camcorder. I try to record doing the day as much as I can. :)
How long can we keep epis in the refrigerator?
What kind of blender is that?
By the way is scallion " SIV"
I love your videos thank you so much
What type of Leak is that?
you are clean in cooking
Thank you very much!
Mmmmmm. Going next to my sofrito
what flavor are the Maggi cubes I have to buy them online.
Chicken flavor
did you use all three leaks
yes I did.
How much skinny leaks to use since I don't have access to big leaks?
You can use as many as you'd like. 5 bunch of the green onions should give you plenty of epis. Thank you for watching!
Thank you for posting this video!
Omg so glad you made this video🙌🙌
how long does it last in the fridge?
Mąríæ Vïllärręal Hđż as long as you want it too it doesnt matter
Forever! Lol
Thank you for taking the time to show us!
I do it and its perfect thank u
thanks I'm going to try this out
Maggi+ SALT = HBP
ed list it's not as though she's eating it all at once.
Exactly, we don't dump that entire thing into one recipe LOL. If you're cooking with it you're only using TSP or TBSP. Most don't add salt at all to epis because they want to control the salt in their dish themselves, just an idea.
I freeze the Epis in ice cube trays (large and small). They make soups and stews taste absolutely wonderful. I also use Epis to marinate meat adding other ingredients like olive oil, vinegar, sugar
I see the ingredients say 6 leeks but the video only shows 3. I just wanted to confirmed.
I actually used 6. I just did the other 3 off camera, so I didn’t have to repeat the process. Thank you for watching!
@@LamiseO thank you for the response. After I sent the message I saw someone else asked you the same question so I used 6.
Tks
Wow merci 🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹
Really nice, thank you for sharing.
+Lippie 143 Thanks for watching love!

What do you freeze it in???
A container or glass jar. An old peanut butter container or plastic Chinese soup container will do fine as well.
