  • In this video we're having a go at removing some dents from Helsing using a cheap PAINTLESS DENT REMOVAL kit from AMAZON which cost less than £30!
    We knew we were probably biting off more than we could chew as some of the van's bodywork was a right old mess but thought we had nothing to lose other than a bit of time and the cost of a takeaway. Remember those...
    You'll see in the video we got mixed results with our Amazon PDR kit. With more patience and practice it would be interesting to see what results could be achieved.
    So WHO are WE? We’re Scarlett, Craig and Merlin and along with Helsing, form the PILGRIM PODS!
    If you enjoy this video why not check out some of our other content? Delve even deeper into our channel; we thought we’d create a series of vlogs chronicling the conversion of our old panel van HELSING (did you see what we did there?) into a weekend warrioring campervan for ADVENTURING and EXPLORING in the UK.
    Each vlog will cover a stage or smaller element of our campervan build, showing our ideas put into action and highlighting our SUCCESSES and FAILURES along the way. With no previous experience this may make for an interesting journey! Our plan is to convert a cheap van on a small budget without cutting corners and at the end, have a campervan to be proud of. We’re hoping you’d like to join us for this journey and that you find our uploads ENTERTAINING and even, INFORMATIVE!
    So, in our sixth vlog we're attempting to remove dents using a PDR kit purchased from Amazon. With no prior experience of dent pulling and only UA-cam tutorials as a guide have we bitten off more than we can chew?!?
    Below you'll find a link to the Amazon Paintless Dent Removal kitwe used in this video...

    Great video Poddy.
    My favourite part was "wait for the people to pass by and then we'll have a tug" lol.

      I tried editing in Muttley sniggering and Kenneth William's 'ooh Matron' but I couldn't quite get either to work. Did lots of tugging last weekend! 😆😁

    Loved the Star Wars kegs! LOL. It was a very good idea to wait until people have walked past before having a tug... ooerr! My van has a 3 foot long gouge down the side so I am just going to fill it then roller it like you did. Loving the vids and the nerdy shirts. I am also a bit nerdy (My colleagues call me Sheldon. Gits.) so can appreciate the shirts etc. Keep it up. Cheers.

      @@PilgrimPods Errr so am I! It's them weirdos with the Nike weird clothes and stuff. I am about 90% through my half-assed conversion of a Renault Trafic LWB with couch/slide out bed, kitchen with 50L water (Unheated), and the piece de resistance, a sit down shower/shitter! A sight to behold I can tell you. I am going to give it a roller paint job following your example when it is finished. BTW - don't buy a smart relay for charging as if you get the Ring battery to battery charger it includes a solar panel input for £150. I did install a relay but have now taken it out and it is yours if you want it, but I would recommend the Ring.... ooerrr!

      Would love to see the van, are you on Instagram? 😊 We've seen others recommend that Ring unit but were thinking a separate B2B charger and MPPT controller just in case one has an issue the other should save our bacon rather than all our eggs in one basket sorta thing. A bit more money I know but like the Maxxfan and 12v fridge we're hoping they'll pay for themselves over time if that makes sense. 🤔😁👍

    Hi there ! I'm a panel beater and paint cars as a trade, and the paint is coming off when pulling because the guy who painted that newer blue on there did some badly executed prep work. Btw great DIY video. That would cost alot at a pro's place ;) Worth the £30

    • @PilgrimPods

      Hey Jo and thanks for enlightening me. 🙂👍 I'd love to get it fixed properly but can't justify the cost on a tired old van. Whilst nowhere perfect it does look a lot better now. Would love to see a professional PDR technician have a go at it. 😊

    Dents (indentations) always have high spots around the outside. That's what the hammer and tap-down tools are for. You can take a fair amount of the dent out by tapping down the high spots before you even begin pulling. Alternating between pulling and tapping down gives the best result.

    found this very interesting..using that kit....never seen one, during lock down i put filler /sanded over the dents on my van, from kids throwing bricks...im sure at least 2 of them wouldve come out with that !! thanks for video ;)

      We had mixed results with our kit. We definitely could have achieved better results with it with a little more patience and know how. For small dents I'd recommend picking up one of these kits. It just bit off too much with our battered panel... 😊👍

      You might be onto something there. Still annoys me I wasn't able to sort it myself. I just have to remind myself it's a £1500 van. If there's another down the line it will be straighter! 😁

    I Would use a heat gun on low or a old hair dryer just before you glue and pull. It helps the metal go back into shape.

    As you’re painting it anyway, just whack all the paint off the dents and build up with filler, these vans don’t really rust anyway so you can’t go far wrong. I bought one of those glue gun kits to get some dings out of my old alfa gtv and it worked a bit but not brilliant.

      I think what you say will be the new plan going forward. I do intend to have another go at the dent pulling though following some advice offered on Facebook. Thanks for checking our channel out. Really appreciate you taking the time. 👍😊

      Pilgrim Pods are you hand painting, I.e. rollering? With Matt or satin paint? Or you planning on going glossy? A satin finish would hide a multitude of sins and the filler job wouldn’t have to be perfect. It would difficult to achieve perfection anyway as you know.

    • @PilgrimPods
      @PilgrimPods  4 роки тому

      @@yeah_right_ok_no1190 I'm going the old VW route and rollering it. Picked the paint up weeks ago and if memory serves it is satin. It's the Rustoleum Combicolour stuff.

      @yeah_right_ok_no1190 4 роки тому +1

      Pilgrim Pods I did a defender in satin and it transformed it, really easy to apply and gives a decent finish. Foam rollers and warming the paint in a bucket of hot water would be my only tips really. Looking forward to seeing your video on it when it happens. Good luck!

    you should have heated the metal first,the temparature should be between 70 F to 85 F you should have a temperature gun and the paint might be a repainted one ,not original,clean your panel with 90 % alcohol and clean your tabs too.
