Play the Gnei as a heavy cruiser. I went with a secondary build. Torpedoes can be a gimmick but have it's use. Upgraded and talented secondaries start raining hell on anything within 9km and it's not even a joke. Gnei is a weird ship but I'm loving it.
The 'damage vs exp' playstyles is an interesting point. I was grinding out my Parseval and was never getting much damage, but I was always in the top 3-5 of my team in exp, while the opponent Kaga's and Saipan's were often in the bottom 5 but racking up the BB damage farm.
First, thank you for these guides. However, I want to take a moment to state a counter-take on purchasing modules and upgrades. Most players are not super-unicum and arguably the best BB player in the game. And many players don't have stocks of draconic signals or powerful camos. Which means many more matches in each ship before advancing. I have a 57% Win Rate overall, and I'm currently grinding up the primary German BB line for the first time. I came through Konig with a 71% WR, Bayern with 50%, and currently working through Gneisenau with 57%. I think I'm a reasonably competent player, but that translates into playing 2-3 times as many battles in each ship before advancing than you probably have to do, even though I do have reserves of ALL the combat and economic signals and am drowning in camos. One mediocre battle pays for both the Slot 1 and Slot 2 upgrades if running full econ flags, and then some. So that's just a no-brainer to me. They're not powerful upgrades, but they do help and they're cheap and if I'm going to be playing, say, 20 battles in Gneisenau, I'll take the help. The Fire Control and Engine modules are also more powerful than you indicate in your videos, and I don't think most players realize it because the UI isn't forthcoming with information. Let's consider them in turn: Fire Control upgrades don't just extend range, but they also reduce dispersion! It doesn't look like it because max dispersion goes up in the UI, but that's because the max range goes up and the dispersion reduction isn't quite enough to counteract the effect at the increased range. But using Gneisenau as an example, with linear dispersion, the effect of the upgraded module is a 10m reduction at 20km range. That's about a 3-4% dispersion reduction. Without going into the math, that's a bigger effect than it sounds like, since even seemingly small reductions in meters have a significant impact on the area of the dispersion ellipse, because math. The impact on vertical dispersion is noticeable, and Gneisenau needs ALL the help it can get. Better dispersion means more shells hitting, means more XP and more kills, and more battles impacted positively, which means more wins, and faster progression. The Engine module upgrade doesn't just increase top speed. It also increases acceleration. I tested Gneisenau in the Training Room to gauge the effect. Stock, with a Sierra Mike signal because I forgot to remove it, it takes Gneisenau 26.85 seconds to accelerate to 20 knots. With the upgraded engine module, acceleration to 20 knots takes 23.58 seconds (also with a Sierra Mike). That's not a huge difference, but it can have an impact when torpedo beating or playing around islands. Better acceleration also means better speed recovery from turns. And really, when you stop and think about it, that's approximately a 15% reduction in acceleration time. How many other 15%+ bonuses are there in the game? A few, but not too many. Personally, I'm often inclined to buck the advice that many people give and upgrade my Fire Control before Hull on battleships. Dispersion is just that important and Fire Control upgrades are relatively cheap. I'm on the fence, and will often make the decision based on how the ship performs in the first game or two I play in her. I agree with upgrading Hull before Engines, but I wouldn't skip the Engines in any ship that will need 8-10+ games to advance, and for most players that's likely to be anything T5 and up. I really do feel that the benefits of fully outfitting and upgrading a ship of T5+ are likely to shorten the grind for *most* players, despite the XP and credit investment. Ship performance is just impacted that much. Anyway, just my 2 Credits.
The good old Gneisey is the best of the German line. Only archilles heel is that lack of firepower and consistent accuracy. With an extra turret or an extra gun per turret with slightly more consistent accuracy would make her a mighty fine ship. I absolutely love her lines too. A beautiful ship to look at.
@@eragonrank5303 if i see t9s im always like, okay, you either get a shitload of credits and XP or you die early because you fucked up anking those 2 t9 BBs, also fuck the english HE spam
Gneisenau is the ship that taught me how to play this game properly as a bb, Tanking, positioning, Maintaining Angle, Using cover, area denial .. everything
Strange to see a guide even, I had so much fun in this thing (I main US BBs and was up to the Iowa when I decided to start the KMS line) that my only concern was getting to the Bismarck too quickly and having to save up some credits for the Modules. The weird thing is, it's easier in the Gneisenau to do actual BB tanking. It's really narrow and handles well, and the bow is actually more armored than either the Bayern before (which also a great ship for a T6, if you don't count Premium shenanigans like the West Virginia or Arizona) or the Bismarck after. The lack of a turret seemed like a disadvantage at first, but most of the situations when I got close enough to broad-side someone in the Bayern would actually get me overpens (the guns would be great at range on that, but you have poor dispersion, not sure whose idea that was), while in this thing I'd just switch to torpedoes and those are 3 hits that don't miss. Sure, you have games where the HE Spam just blows them up, but that's just how the cookie crumbles. Even though I'm now working towards the FdG, I'm not nearly as excited about it and I frequently switch to a few Gneisenau games for fun. I'm considering getting the Scharnhorst too, I know the guns are smaller, but the lower reload seems an interesting mechanic.
Man, it looks so much easier to grind in the PC version of WoWS compared to the mobile version where it can take upto 2 weeks of playing ~10 battles every day to go from T7 to T8.
PC version is abt the same, if not more time consuming as Random battles are way more brutal. Going from T7 to T8 takes a long time, probably 20 battles avg. Doing it right now.
the german bb main line, if you build for main gun is actually fine because they have faster reload compared to other bb. Especially pruessen. it can be below 20s with 8 457mms and still have gk armor.

Super usefull. So why not purchase a commander that comes with skill points? Also what did he do with the commander send for training how does that work?
When you move a commander from another tech tree ship, you have to retrain them. This basically means that all your skills are locked until you gain a certain amount of xp, and only then will you be able to have all their current skills again. This is better than getting a new 10 point commander for every ship because you not only spend less money, but when you finally get to tier 10, you'll have a higher level commander.
@@aristosachaion_ thanks Josh. Still confused. Why not buy new commander with 6 points and leave them on that ship? Is it because he plans to keep using the same commander, sell the previous ship and repeat till he reaches T10? What is the best approach if you want to keep the lower tier ship? Or the goal is to reach T10 then buy the lower tier ships with the XP you get at tier 10?
If you want to keep your lower tiered ships but still have every intention of grinding to tier 10, or any higher tier ship that you like, keep using and moving the same commander up until you get there and just buy commanders for your lower tiered ships. It's far more efficient that way than having to start from 6 points every time you move up a tier.
I haven't even watched the vid and I already know the strat. Fire from distance with accurate consumable against BB, get close using speed and then hand it to them
Would putting on camo and flags all the time still be worth it for a not so experienced player? Let's say he goes through 3 losses before a win, would it still be worth?
Why didn’t they gave us a free reset of the commander skills after the rework? I have got several captains with stupid old skills equipped and it is so expensive to reset them with gold or free xp :(

@@solanine6452 Same shit with Bismarck. Gneisenau is by far the best German battleship in the game. It's better than Bismarck (and the others) in basically every practical aspect. @@illominus6228 agreed, but these ships depends on gimmick not a guns. Such ships always requires high skill and especially nowadays when secondary is only for uniqums and masochists.DE and CV rework kills all fun in the game
The only thing that holds Gneisenau back from being an A or even S tier ship, is the guns being so garbage until within 10km. Worst dispersion/sigma of all BB's around and also fuckall guns just makes it painful since brawling these days is not really viable anymore.

this ship and Scharnhorst are the best looking ships in the game.
They are so sleek and streamlined. On top of that the gameplay for me is interesting, even if I have to fight T9s.
@@eragonrank5303 if i see t9s im always like, okay, you either get a shitload of credits and XP or you die early because you fucked up anking those 2 t9 BBs, also fuck the english HE spam
They were great looking in real life. Beautiful ships.
You know the Scharnhorst and Gneisenau are sister ships. The difference is main guns and ship size but there the same ship with little differences.
Gneisenau is the ship that taught me how to play this game properly as a bb, Tanking, positioning, Maintaining Angle, Using cover, area denial .. everything
I remember once this ship have a very good AA... like very good.
Against dumb CVS she still has good AA, I deplaned a Lexington recently
Strange to see a guide even, I had so much fun in this thing (I main US BBs and was up to the Iowa when I decided to start the KMS line) that my only concern was getting to the Bismarck too quickly and having to save up some credits for the Modules.
The weird thing is, it's easier in the Gneisenau to do actual BB tanking. It's really narrow and handles well, and the bow is actually more armored than either the Bayern
before (which also a great ship for a T6, if you don't count Premium shenanigans like the West Virginia or Arizona) or the Bismarck after.
The lack of a turret seemed like a disadvantage at first, but most of the situations when I got close enough to broad-side someone in the Bayern would actually get me
overpens (the guns would be great at range on that, but you have poor dispersion, not sure whose idea that was), while in this thing I'd just switch to torpedoes and those are 3 hits that don't miss.
I absolutely recommend the Scharnhorst, it is IMO one of the most fun ships at T7.
Great!! Just grinding this ship right now. Thanks =)
if u get the to bismark i would keep the gneisenau in the harbour
if u get the to bismark i would keep the gneisenau in the harbour
The Gneisenau is my favorite ship in the entire German BB line
Man, it looks so much easier to grind in the PC version of WoWS compared to the mobile version where it can take upto 2 weeks of playing ~10 battles every day to go from T7 to T8.
PC version is abt the same, if not more time consuming as Random battles are way more brutal. Going from T7 to T8 takes a long time, probably 20 battles avg. Doing it right now.
I stopped spending real money on this game but still play.
Secondary build will get you close to breaking even on credits and torps kill most ships. The guns are pretty to look at
I'm early! Hope you do HMS light cruisers...
the german bb main line, if you build for main gun is actually fine because they have faster reload compared to other bb. Especially pruessen. it can be below 20s with 8 457mms and still have gk armor.
Ah yes got it - optimal grinding is to stay inactive to get tons of camos and signals for boosting. ;-)
Duuuude I didn't even knew that signals gives you more xp I thought it was just for decoration lol I'm new and I never used them,I have like hundreds of them lol
Thx a lot >w
flags helped me to grind out the nelson in a week of like 2-3 hours playing per day xd it was so good seeing so much XP
You can send a ticket to ask for an account wide Captain Respec if you missed the 10.1 free respec.
But it's only available at the moment (10.2 patch). So try to do it as early as possible :)

after the command rework i build my gneisenau on secondaries.this ship become very situational if you know when tu push ,this ship is devistating.many times i rekt with her over 200K of damage +over 230 secondaries hits.the rate of those type of game where 1 for every 5 game.while the other 4 games between 90K and 150K
Its a keeper. Best ship in the line. So fun.
also tier 7 so u dont play against thunderer X as u do when playing bismark
@@zinogrevz7389 I dont like Bismarck at all. I keep it in the port for historical reasons but i dont play it. Massa is the same play style, just muuuuuch better.
Something to pay attention to: You will find that on the new account with fewer games, your overpen goes way down, and accuracy goes way up, using the same ships, same player, etc.
2:09 Even with a Sec Build Pyrotechnician isn't worth it?
Tfw PQ drops a video about a ship I'm grinding. 😊
I got Bismarck I while back In an event container so skipped GN (already researched up to Bayern) I just reset the line and I must say I had really good fun so far, yeah dispersion can be trolling but you may sometimes get the on shell that cits a Nuremberg, GN is a great ship.
Will there be a stream today? Also amazing video as always
I'm currently grinding this ship for the next season of ranked. It looks like a ton of fun!
I really like the Gneisenau grind aswell its a nice ship
how to grind: win
Those are rewarded who can aim.
Finally! Let's gooooooooo
4:15 "Playing a fully upgraded ship is better than playing a stock ship" ~ PQ, 2021
Wouldtn advise to sell ships past T5 since there allways events and stuff where u can get free goodies for 1 coop match in them.
Eh just get a premium at t5-7 and keep the t8s, which are actually good
@@twinkyoctopus ipsy bibsy bismark
Best German ship in the entire game.
Odin is the best, it is superGneisenau - 1 more torp, 3 more guns, better secondaries (and free respec of captain) :D
@@siriusczech Nope, Odin is also inferior.
Higher tier, less gun caliber, and worse tier for tier in basiclaly every aspect.
Btw it has WORSE secondaries.
Omg that video is sooooo good
Super usefull.
@@aristosachaion_ Ok will do that from now on. Thank you for your help. Cheers.
I haven't even watched the vid and I already know the strat. Fire from distance with accurate consumable against BB, get close using speed and then hand it to them
>German ship
>American-coded camo
>found this funny
In exchange for worst guns. You get best secondaries, torpedoes, armor and maneouverability for t7.Should be good change huh
Would putting on camo and flags all the time still be worth it for a not so experienced player? Let's say he goes through 3 losses before a win, would it still be worth?
Looking forward to the Biz and Freddy next. Slowly grinding to get GK before it becomes a coal ship
Please do top list like top ten battleships
Can you tell me how you make your smart horizon white please, it showed green like mine when you checked in settings, but it’s white in game thanks
I selected the colour when installing the mod.
Why didn’t they gave us a free reset of the commander skills after the rework? I have got several captains with stupid old skills equipped and it is so expensive to reset them with gold or free xp :(
There was a free respec if you went on the WG website during the 10.0 patch. They might still be offering free respec's if you submit a ticket to their support. The reason I didn't get it here is because I didn't play this account during the 10.0 patch and I'm too lazy to submit a ticket for 1 commander respec.
Gneis with 9.5km secondaries..it's so strong and so fun
Is it usually this zoomed out?
PQ uses a mod that allows a farther zoom out. He made a video on what mods he uses so check that out if you're interested.
@@KarthikVishwamitra thanks!
You got some luck, my guns never shoot this good, great job
Grind it on stream Definitely!
Bismarck feels like such a downgrade. Big and easy to hit, no torps, laser accurate t9-10s to face while still carrying t6 guns
Bruh I JUST finished the Gneisenau and bought the Bismarck today
Poor you, Bismarck is less fun.
^
@@dzello ok rip me. Gnei dispersion is quite frustrating at times tho
@@solanine6452 Same shit with Bismarck. Gneisenau is by far the best German battleship in the game.
It's better than Bismarck (and the others) in basically every practical aspect.
It has: best gun configuration, best AA, best speed, best armor, best secondaries and best torpedoes tier for tier.
Meanwhile, Bismarck gets an extra back gun it can't use while brawling. It loses the best EVERYTHING for one back gun.
Don't worry, it's still fun. Sure, it will have its frustrating moments, but you have hydro and decent secondaries.
Play safe and never go solo and you'll do well.
This account is a f2p , i will do it as a f2p player , also i have the atlanta and the massachusetts and all the lags and all paints !
So let this be a lesson for you you can play for free as long as you have all the stuff wows sells !
I thought selling previous ship prevents you from buying the next one it did on xbox
Is there a way to buy these insane special flags?
We need some grind updates.
How to get flags which have economic benefits? My flags have attribute boost🤷🏻♂️
How do you have that many premium ships available, could someone please explain it to me?
It’s a mod that shows all ships in the game even if you don’t have them. You can’t buy them, it just lets you see them.
@@PotatoQuality thanks, appreciate the time you spent to answer, keep up the good content :)
I think ever since I’ve started to play this game I’ve only ever won 2 out of 300 games, I constantly get put on teams with bots, half the team is dead in under 1 and a half minutes, so the “assuming we have a good game” thing is hopeless for me :/
By bots I mean, really really bad players, so I’m just hung out to dry by the end of the game and there is nothing I can do lol
Not really feeling her, I'm at tier VII Battleships for all except I don't have Nagato, Lyon, and Sinop, the main battery of only 6 guns is a turnoff, tho dat AA and speed in a way she feels a bit like a filler ship and almost a downgrade from Bayern sometimes although I seem to get decent damage to hit ratios in her overall
Torp rush
Meanwhile I can barely citadel cruisers let alone battleships with the thing, and I'm always getting smacked by tier 9s. I can't wait to get the Bismarck and never play this ship again.
look at the WR of german tech tree BBs so you will know how "good" they are.
That is not very representative. They are often played by not the best players to say it kindly who do not understand how the game works.
@@illominus6228 agreed, but these ships depends on gimmick not a guns. Such ships always requires high skill and especially nowadays when secondary is only for uniqums and masochists.DE and CV rework kills all fun in the game
why is it when i get hits it does nothing but when youtubers get hits half of them are citadels
Bayern is pronounced buyern not bay-ern
Bro gets 100k+ damage in his first match, I get like 40k in like every match...
The only thing that holds Gneisenau back from being an A or even S tier ship, is the guns being so garbage until within 10km.
Worst dispersion/sigma of all BB's around and also fuckall guns just makes it painful since brawling these days is not really viable anymore.
Don't sell the upgrades (cheaply) and then buy them back again at greater cost!
just free xp to this ship, it has worst guns, after playing only the US BB line and the Warspite I realize now how spoiled I have been expecting to actually him what I am shooting at.
lol when i use a full set of flags/camos best i ever see is 10-12k !
The answer is simple: Dont suck at the game.
I love how he said bismark wouldnt be 135k but 115k because he skipped the two upgrades..... that is not how it works pal, upgrades have no impact on the xp requirement for the next ship.
Nice meme
2 ships i,ll never sell..my gneisy and my richelulu...over 60% w/l ratio on both of them..
Does anyone else notice that when you fire at axis ships with an axis ship rng dispersion is suddenly almost pinpoint accurate but when you fire at allied ships with an axis ship suddenly rng says no no, you can't hit that? That seems to be the one consistent thing in this game.
Please do a fdg video
You couldn't do that on console if you wanted too. Never seen 30k exp gain in standard match on console. Your ship can 100 flags and wouldn't matter.
BAERN
I had way more luck with the tier 6 bayern i really suck aloth with the gneissenau
It's a completely different play style
I know those flags help, but for some reason the more I put on, the worse game I have. :(
First!
Take off the accuracy module - It does nothing good on this ship.
Maybe it's just me but the ship is incredibly inaccurate at any range, the dispersion it's also nuts, feels like playing in the Massachusetts, also the AP can't pen heavy cruisers at the same tier, I hate the ship, is not even funny to play with.
This ship not good sniping. Better closer to activated her potential.
This ship is just a big old POS!!! Always uptiered and beaten down badly
