Step 1: Tune your instrument down.
Step 2: Learn morse code.
Step 3: Profit?
Lmao, seems like it

Vegetsu101 Do I get extra credit for already knowing Morse code?
Aldi Rinaldy binary
Vegetsu101 lmfao
Djent: crab walk
Shred: Spider trying to escape
if you fuse them together its
a spider doing a crab walk trying to escape
no
@@s0lid232
That's a good one !
AHAHAH ! ;)
Insanely accurate
Whats it escaping from, though?
How to become a DJENT guitarist:
1) Buy a 9 string guitar
2)Only play 1 string.
I love this comment. Freaking hilarious but so true.
@stephentherarabear so in my first couple of months, I can play Bleed or The Price Is Wrong perfectly note for note from start to finish?
@stephentherarabear anyone can after learning a few scales bro but if they don't understand the theory or what it is they are playing all the soul is lost and it's just another edge Lord playing phrygian scales because they know the shapes that's not the same as understanding.
Thanks bro!
Dude you nailed it.
Djent - Rhythm Guitar
Shred - Lead Guitar
I was just pressed to bee your 500th like😁
Thanks bro and also Djent is a Power Chords. 😁
I would listen to that band
basically yes
And Dimebag is…?
Why not.....Shrent?
Why not shred on one guitar, djent on an other with bass strings and only blast beat on drum kit ?
Link
Djred?
Why not shred on bass and djent on guitar cuz that would be interesting
drop Q sweep picking
good thinking ;)
What a Djentlemen..
So djent is what happens when a bass player picks up a guitar?
Jacob Geiger absolutely!
no, it's when they get together like at the end of the video.
so funny
That is ILLEGAL!
Lemmy wants to know your location
Djenting is a bass skill. Shreding is a guitar skill. Each can boost your exp while using an 8 string guitar.
@unohana Retsu djent is essentially progressive metal with fixation on the low end and driving grooves. The administration of polymeters, and precision required by a whole band to keep time while using different time signatures is a feat in itself.
@@fatalfngrz6831 not so much into djent but completely agree with what you said. Cool sound whether into it or not. Grooves.
Sorry, very late to convo.
What if you decide to Shred with a Bass though?
Papounator then you get joey demaio
This is why two guitarists are needed in a metal band
Superfuzz Junky
not if you are Dimebag Darrel
kev ctulu not everyone is a god
System of a Down though?
Not if you are Yngwie Malmsteen in the band or steve vai in Whitesnake.
Actually 4. Djentist, Rhythm, Lead, Bass
Thing to take away:
Both = Good
Together = Great
+Suk Dufai Together sounds like Born Of Osiris.
+o3ix Shrent? Djed? Idk about all of the genres!!!
exactly
agreef
agreed*
1:23 dragon force with more speed
Through fire and flames
1:36 bleed with less speed
if you get it right it's actually not that hard to do
1:57 is the best part hands down. We need a full length version of this
JARED FOR PRESIDJENT!

Oh yeah!

Doom (2016) vs Doom (1993) soundtracks in a nutshell.
slashescape preach
Doom (2016) was fucking awesome
So true! We should get a Mick Gordon/Jared Dines collab for Doom Eternal!
@@derekdillard9916 More like Andrew Hulshult who did an amazing remake of the classic 1993 soundtrack. As in: ua-cam.com/video/AGK1dr-Ql0w/v-deo.html
Omg why is no one talking about the first shred riff at 0:13, that alone won shred for me
kreten debil Yo what's the name of it tho?
Brotha Gabe yeah im wondering also, its fucking epic, but its probably just a riff he wrote
Blues pentatonic; standard fare for most seasoned guitarists with a proclivity for rock.
yeah, its really awesome :D
Yeah.. I am wondering about it's name.. but more.. I am wondering about tvoje jméno. xd
1:58 Rings of Saturn
T D since when is rings of saturn deathcore
T D embryonic anomaly still wasn't really deathcore
T D and metalcore is something waaaay different from their newer stuff
Nigga calling RoS metalcore hahahaggagaga
Aliencoooooore
The djent riff at 1:13 has such a sick groove!
shut up
@@Neightlive Triggered boi.
@@Neightlive WTF?

Only here for that part.
Good ole Djared and Jashred battlin it out

pretty good comment for a piece of shit
GHLinkinmanuT I'm going to report your comment because your profile pic is shit
cobra emperor 107 stfu
I'm Bored why thank you !
Gonna have to go with djent on this one. I can appreciate some good shredding but djent just scratches that metal itch so much better for me. Plus that riff starting at about 0:27 is sick as fuck.
Djent + Shred = Meshuggah
and I'm loving it
Gojira, Opeth, Devin Townsend
Gabriel Rodriguez no.
It sounded like Nintendo-core :D
That's actually a Born of Osiris song.
the djent riff at 1:14 is so SICK
1:23 dragon force anyone?
Through the Fire and Flames! .... Thank you Guitar Hero Childhood!!! : )
Darude-Sandstorm
dragonborn comes
1:14 sounds like it could be from disturbed
you never played guitar hero 3, have you?
basically the whole argument is symphony of destruction vs holy wars
i personally like djent more, it gives me more of a DOOM vibe, and I'm a sucker for DOOM
I get ya dude, the sound of djent gives me a feel like ima bout to head on good killing spree, while shreding just gives me the feel of being a badass in general... Idk but thats just me.
Funny you say thAt cuz doom was mettalica and pantera digitized
Kono dio da my fellow weeb
the stutter that happens with the djent RAILS me to the edge of my seat in that game
Nah, Djent just sounds like Limp Bizkit Nu Metal trash
Both together in the end. that's the shit!
I agree that was awesome
Linnet's Covers Human Abstract
Levente Udud I was wondering why I recognized that ending.
Levente Udud what song is it? I am looking them up and they're really good!
Human abstract rips shit up
Love this series idea! Tech Death Vs. Prog would be a good one!!
I think shred won this battle but I prefer Djent in songs as opposed to solos haha.
Dickeyfighter7861 i agree with everything you just said
Dickeyfighter7861 Tech Death vs Grindcore sounds better
Tech death is prog
-____-just stop. You know they are not the same that's why there's two separate names for them. Don't be that guy.
NiceTacos Listen to progressive metal then listen to technical death metal, technical death metal is a combination of prog and death metal. It's as simple as that, so why would you do a Vs between those two genres?
Djent -> adrenaline pumping
Shred -> skillful art
Whew! That Djent/Shred combo at the end was smoking! Plus you just played some Steve Vai…..Sweet!
the shreds were so good! but everytime djent came back on i was like ooooh shit that feels nice
i mean jared's "but does it djent" is literally that
Well Djent is actually really technical. Some would say that Djent is a sub-genre of Shred.
sim H sammmemeeeeeeee
sameeeee
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. Nice and dirty just like I like it! #Djent
the real winner was when the djent and the shred came together, that was glorious.
1:12 Periphery vs DragonForce
1:31 Wanna play rough? Say hello to my little friend.
What song is that
@@mr.boboman5701 It sounds like Bleed by Meshuggah but it's a bit different.
Djent sounds like the start of a great breakdown.
Zeke i feel like djent is basically just a breakdown
Zeke Larsen exactly, sounds like total shit. Let’s have an entire song of just pre breakdown stuttery filler notes and chords. No actual melody or anything appealing music wise just noise. Fuckin trash
@@TheFapFactory Meshuggah or TesseracT?
DaroriDerEinzige definitely Meshuggah
@@TheFapFactory Nah it sounds alright, and I like both. Sometimes aggressive sounds like that are good. Take your toxic attitude elsewhere.
Jared the only dual you've won is with yourself :D ;)
I've literally never thought of that!
duel*
actually the shred guy is Joey Ramone.
0:27 Once every few months I will always come back to this video and listen to this :')
Hey! Did the same too...

You are lightning... Hahahah!
AndrogynousJack Djared
AndrogynousJack Djared Djines is a djentleman
DARED JINES
He's also the J is SHRED
You gotta appreciate the amount of time and skill that goes into coming up with the licks for JD's videos!
Did I hear a bit of Through The Fire And Flames with the shredding at about 1:25? I love both BTW, but I prefer shredding SLIGHTLY more.
haha! this is awesome! They sound great together! SHRENT!
just mix it all together and call it saladcore
Zac Staylon look up rings of saturn
That For the Love of God interlude
KingofRock943 I almost burst out laughing xD
KingofRock943 so glad im not the only one who caught that
stonedome93 Same here
I was trying to remember what that was haha. Cheers for the reminder. More of a satch fanatic, but still enjoy me some Vai. :)
KingofRock943 so troll
And when you combine them you have Animals as Leaders
Bro, 1:13 is very AAL-esque. Progressive Metal is absolutely amazing
The ending seemed very Scale The Summit.

That djent was not tuned low enough
Jordan Dexter Do you even Djent?
***** Yep, and what about Brown note?

It needs to be tuned to drop brown note #!!!

Sounds like the end of a Born of Osiris song
Jason Ross what tittle song called?
ChotBenjermin Vengeance. At least that's what i'm picking up on.
Dylan Lawson oh thanks sir
No problem man.
Sounds like the end solo of follow the signs.
1:23 gotta love the attempt of through the fire and flames lol
He does not want to be demonetized.
As a 69 year old guitar playing dude with arthritic hands all I gotta say is it is a JOY to watch and listen to you play. One of these days I will have to find a video of you actually playing in a band setting for one entire song....
For the Love of God @1:51.
That was pretty cool how you threw that in there.
Wat song is that
+Gonzalo Chairez It is one of the most notable/popular songs written by Steve Vai.
+Robert Harris Were all the riffs from this from real songs or just a few? I noticed the tremelo @ 1:24 is from a Dragonforce song, "Through the fire and flames" I think.
+? Huckfed No, the one at @1:51 was just from For the Love of God. The pre-verse riff from Through the Fire and Flames was also definitely in the shred part too.
That was awesome!!
2:00 LITERALLY BORN OF OSIRIS HAHAHA
Josh Moore yeah dude, absolutely
All of the, but it reminds me of machine a lot
Josh Moore 3
You call me?
The Human Abstract - Vela, Together We Await The Storm... common mates!
24 frets, 7-strings, 1 finger; djent.
0:23 My favourite part aside from the end.
0:45 that was actually such a sick breakdown.
Anyone know the original song? Or can I use it? xD
GetScaredGaming No, 1:31 was actually such a sick breakdown.
pablo osorio I agree. :45 was sounded shitty and I love djent. 1:31 is what I like to hear!
It was terrible
*****
Sometimes something really simple just rips, and imo that one did. But when a song is only made up of shit like that, like Emmure for example, thn its shit.
Shred all the way!
True
+Nake Basic Shred. Amen.
I love both of em. Thanks for the video.

Lol through the fire and flames at 1:23 how did nobody notice that
And Steve Vai's For the love of God at 1:51
And Steve Vai's For the love of God at 1:51
I think most people did
i did :o
Pretty sure he threw the herta pattern from Bleed by Meshuggah in there at one point as well
That mashup at the end... My sensibilities... Mu' bueno.
Comencé a seguir tu canal desde hace tiempo pero no había visto esta joya!!
Djent and Shred at the same time at the end sounds like The Human Abstract
+GameGrumps Compilations didnt expect to see you here :D
what the fuck?
+Fan-ji what?
Shiny Sporks no I mean, I didn't expect him here either.
+Fan-ji oh okay XD
Shred is waaaaaay more satisfying.
Richard William Kirkpatrick-Thorne Meh, to each their own. Djent is fucking beautiful and less brain dead leaving room for shredding down the line when it comes time to shred.
I remember downloading this video's audio to listen on my ipod back in HS man. I love this video so much! 💙
i love both when it combined
especially when played by the orignal jared dines keep up the good work
can we have a full song based on the riff at 0:23
1:03 is the best part hands down.
Blood Brothers by Papa Roach
Guitar players: you can't be successful with just 3 notes
Djent player: hold my beer
You can't be successful with only 3 notes.
Kurt Cobain: hold my heroin
As if djent players aren't guitarists
1:13 MAKE THIS A SONG!!!!!
Search up The Gods Must Be Crazy by Periphery
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD Jared keep posting videos like this
That.... At the end..... Is music like that even made?!?!?!? I need it in my life....
Rings of saturn... Enough said
Born Of Osiris as well
Born Of Osiris is the biggest "djent+shred" band (aka progressive metal).
A few others:
-Rings of Saturn
-Veil Of Maya (newest album)
-Chelsea Grin (newest album)
-Within The Ruins
-After The Burial
+Jølly Does Dreamtheatre count as progressive?
Is there any of that type of music with classic rock and classic metal-type vocals? The vocals are always kind of a killer for me in modern metal.
When he starts in 00:27 it sounds amazing
Thank you Professor Dines for the academic, illuminating comparison between these two highly evolved forms of modern musique
1:31 is where the real Duh-jent is at
A couple of those djent sequences were so nice, I had to go listen to Within the Ruins.
The riff at 1:02 is sweet
The sweeps at the end
How da fuq does your hair not mute the frets?
Pretty sure he records audio first and then shoots the video over it, just how it's done with music videos.
Jarod Walker Maybe so.
Have u ever seen KoRn live?
Yup, look at Head's and Munk's hair.
(KoRn rules!)
CrispyCakes
Yeah, KoRn rules!
Steve Vai? Nobody heard the Steve Vai? I'm not giving away the song...
Nope. somebody heard it too. thank god
For the love of God, of course I heard it :)
1:50
Tender surrender?
yeah man
Great channel. Just discovered you as I was searching for Metal. Thanks for clearing it up and making me laugh at the same time.
Jared makes every genre amazing
1:50 for the love god :v
Can't believe I had to scroll down this far to find someone finally recognize it. Youngsters have no respect for Vai, I tell ya.
Having a Vai-gasm now
What’s the song here
Davin Heil the song IS For the Love of God by Steve Vai. If you’re a guitar player and you don’t know that song you might as well quit.
Gabriel Brouwer no I actually just got into guitar and would love to learn the song in the future no need to bash me for not knowing the name of a song..
1:22 dragon force: throught fire and flames 😍😍
guitarhero.. aaaw damn.. now i wanna play it 😍😍😂

Yeah i remember playing it on guitar hero. ahh the nostalgia
+Talion ikr 😍😍
I learned the actual drum part not too long ago.
MinecraftRocks97 - Gaming, Vlogs, And More! omg thats awesome
just killing at the end there omg
love the end they went together nice
I like both, and I like even more when they are mixed together.
shred wins
Nah...
hands down.
I love this guy!!!!
I love hearing this!
Why would Djent win, I mean...
you got a bassplayer for that stuff, right?
skypjuh Because djent is generally a lot more difficult then it's stereotypes lead people to believe. In fact most of the time there is no distinction between shred and djent because most good bands use them both.
Ben anonnimous After the burial is a great example of that
Ben anonnimous I was just kidding lol
but that doesn't diminish the fact that when it comes to a rythmic approach for short licks you might aswell just turn up your bass...I think in alot of situations it would actually sound better
skypjuh
Some bands do this. Others just have their guitars use extended range so that the guitars go down into the bass register, and do the opposite.
Ben anonnimous y..
Shred all day.
The ending is just angelmaker
Around 1.15 is the best jdent riff I've ever heard..awesome..
I hate it when people say shredding has "no feeling." These people assume just because it is fast that that's the only thing the guitarist cares about. Just because the guitar solos don't sound like a Nirvana song down doesn't mean it lacks feeling, you probably just don't like it. Go listen to Per Nilsson, Jeff Loomis, Paul Wardingham, Christian Muenzner, Angel Vivaldi, and/or Tosin Abasi. All of them are very technical but have superb phrasing. Why? Because they know how to make speed sound good.
Also, I personally opine that both are good, but together are great.
1:58 SHRENT!!!!
BEST Educational Video EVER!!! you sir are a scholar and a "Djentelman"!
This was honestly so helpful
I've gotta go with the style that brought me into knowing I liked Metal, Shred. Actually, DragonForce in particular through Guitar Hero. Yep, IMO Shred wins.
Djent for me I love the heaviness
I also like shred so 50/50
Exactly the same for me. :D
"Life is like a box of Djent, ya never know what your gonna get"
Love both
