Colonialism is certainly in play. The thing that jumps out at me more, though, is the hard tilt toward god, or religion, or whatever you want to call it. Why does that so often seem to be the case in these scenarios? I can't help but wonder if it's more a result of these situations, or actually the cause. At least in part, anyway.
I tend to think cause. Like I said, though, that's an assumption from someone who can't make any sense of the idea of god. I'd be curious to hear thoughts from someone who has faith.

Much of poorer non-western countries (Australia being counted as western) can be viewed as colonies with distributed ownership by transnational corporations. Take my home country of Russia, for example. The west in general and EU in particular supported the regime of Putin up until 2 years ago, which included nice business deals where they bought what was stolen from Russians and a supply of weapons "for internal use only", so that the business can keep flowing. Now Russians who had no say in this are blamed and taken of the list of humans possessing any rights (many of the sanctions against simple Russians within the EU clearly violate ECHR). And they still buy stolen Russian resources (especially ridiculous in the EU, who declared Putin illegitimate president)! How is this not colonialism?

It's like why should I sacrifice my life for these people but then again even if I did it wouldn't make a difference. Idk..... It's just not right.

Greta Thunberg should advocate for these children instead of virtue signaling all over the world on yachts and private jets.
American college kids should do the same work instead of protesting.

@2:40 the child picks up a gray, square metal can. It’s a magnetron, it’s the part of a microwave oven that actually makes the microwave energy. There is a solid chunk of copper inside those along with 2 donut shaped magnets.

My sweet old man's spirit is now crying, my eyes have long ago run out of tears. The baby boy who was handed a scrap of food at 10:19 broke my heart. He took it into his mouth but didn't want to. Even he knew that was not something proper to be eating. He just let it fall from his mouth onto his lap. Then he looked straight into the camera and hoped nobody was going to be seeing that and laughing at him. You could see all that in his eyes. I type this comment while holding a watermelon popsicle in my hand. I picture giving it to the children and all of them sharing licks off of it... and happy to do so. Now I have to eat it and move right on to another video. I will muddle through my day just fine, too. I thought I was so "broke as a joke" but actually am not that at all. I am a dirt poor rich old man. Slaves of old were treated better than these children are. Homeless Americans don't have it as bad as them either. God bless the child... when all is said and done.

to all who are wondering about the former sanitation worker that's looking for a job , while his children are working, you simply don't know his conditions, these are people torn by war, a lot of them have missing limbs or disability, thaousands and thousands have trauma from being tortured or from the 10 years of bomobing over their heads, a lot of them with respiratory conditions , maybe they didn't share part of thier story with the journalists, a back Injurie maybe ? so don't rush to conclusions , you can't judge them with a 10 secounds clip , you don't know what they live through. pray for them , help them , count your blessings and be thankful for what you have
thanks Business Insider for your work
