The Importance of SELF AWARENESS for Entrepreneurs w/ SHARK TANK's Barbara Corcoran

  • I hope you’re ready to swim with one of the most famous SHARKS in America.
You probably know BARBARA CORCORAN best from hanging out on SHARK TANK with the likes of Mark Cuban, Kevin O’Leary, Daymond John, and others for the past 11 seasons. This week, you’re going to learn about what it takes to run with those powerhouses as an EQUAL on television and in the real world.
Barbara’s journey is packed full of lessons you need to hear and that you can use in your own life.
She came from very modest beginnings and was a poor student who battled dyslexia and failed at 20 jobs before she was 23. But after borrowing $1,000 from a boyfriend, Barbara eventually formed the Corcoran Group, and in time, turned it into a $5 BILLION REAL ESTATE BUSINESS.
You’ll love the story of how Barbara tapped into her ENTREPRENEURIAL SUPERPOWERS to become one of the WEALTHIEST and most INFLUENTIAL businesswomen in the world today.
Her rags-to-riches story is beyond INSPIRING. More than that, it’s a BLUEPRINT you can learn from when you tap into a FREEDOM MINDSET, GRIT, AND DETERMINATION to create your best life, even in the most difficult circumstances.
As you’ll hear, it’s no surprise that many women look to Barbara as a ROLE MODEL to overcome challenges they face in the business world. She offers specific advice to women, but there are also UNIVERSAL LESSONS anyone can take from her experiences and wisdom.
Barbara shares the MUST-HAVE TRAITS any entrepreneur should have (starting with COMPETITIVENESS and RESILIENCE), how she EVALUATES Shark Tank opportunities, and why SELF-AWARENESS is critical when you work for yourself.
Barbara wraps up our interview with an interesting and SURPRISING insight into how WEALTH DOES AND DOES NOT CHANGE YOUR LIFE.
She is an endless bundle of ENERGY and mixes that with HUMILITY and a NO-NONSENSE approach in her work, making Barbara Corcoran one of the most uniquely ENDEARING people I’ve had on my show.
    0:41 Intro
    1:24 Little girl Barbara
    4:49 How Barbara faced dyslexia
8:04 How Barbara started The Corcoran Group
14:55 What Barbara would say to women wanting to start a business
19:11 What are some must-have traits to be an entrepreneur?
23:33 How Barbara got into Shark Tank
27:37 How does Barbara evaluate people on Shark Tank
32:55 Barbara's success rate with businesses she's worked with
35:30 Does Barbara still have blind spots in business?
39:29 Is self-awareness an important element to being an entrepreneur?
42:25 Is Barbara's success worth everything she went through?
45:20 Barbara's mock funeral birthday party
47:59 What's something Barbara used to believe that she no longer believes today

Barbara is probably my favorite shark on TV. Today I learned why, she is a working class badass from rags to riches. Being a product of a single parent home (single mom), I connect with her authenticity and her humility along with her business savvy. Great interview Ed!

Barbara Corcoran is such a stunning example of a normal human being who pushes beyond average while dealing with all the inherent flaws as well.
When I was working at Valuetainment, I presented the case several times with PBD to ask her to be a guest at the Vault Conference because she is, at her core, an entrepreneur and guiding light!

Barbara is a hoot! I so appreciate her authenticity. She was so real & honest about how she judges others quickly and about how she is still acting out conditioning from the past. What an insightful and genuine conversation. Between the two of you there is so much to take away. I think what made this so great is it felt like talking with the two of you rather than being talked to by the two of you. It makes it a lot easier to relate to, and what a wonderful blend of personalities

Such an inspiration to me Barbara - keep up all the amazing work - ! Inspiring “older women (51)” to crush in business … yes!!! So rare to hear from really successful business women who are relatable. My story is actually quite similar - pro athlete to entrepreneur, school dropout. But that burning desire to succeed in the world, and to give back of course, role model for your family and wider world so fulfilling - huge. 🎉

Thank you Ed. I appreciate your hard work to keep us motivated and on track. This is one of my favorites. My background is similar to Barbara. I, too, hate the long winded person in my work environment. My employees look at me and say, "I know, You just want the summary".
I think it just comes with the territory of handling a lot in each day.
Now I don't feel so bad about it. I see it is part of being the boss. Perhaps it is part of being from a large family. I come from 12 kids. I am second oldest. I hated the chaos growing up. I love it now as an adult, but when it gets too loud or the chaos starts getting out of hand, I have to disappear.
In business, I start to feel that trapped feeling I would get when I was in the middle of the chaos and noise growing up. Cutting through the garbage and getting to the point is my safety raft. Then I am free to get back to what I need to do. I love being able to determine my own path.

    • @JessBooth
      @JessBooth 2 роки тому +2

@@EdMylettShow Thank you for taking the time to reply to my comment Ed. She said many things that I loved but the thing that stood out the most is when she said “our strength comes from our greatest weaknesses, if we have the strength to realize it.” It is the truth. My weakness was school, I used to hate school and I can’t say that I did much work when I was in it. I had an epiphany in March and it definitely came from god because I sure as hell wouldn’t have thought of it. But it is to major in something where I would have to take all the courses I used to struggle with as a child. Do I feel qualified? No, but I know that I am because god knows me more than I do. That’s how I know I’m qualified and will accomplish what he put in my heart. He shows out in the underdogs.

Hey YOU, incredible person reading this...The truth is you are confident and good enough already with who you are, where you are at and what you have right now to have the success you want in life. Don't let others define what “success” is for you. Get up, learn that skill and go after it! I believe in you so much! Have an awesome day! - Love, Nat ❤️
