  • Whether you realize it or not, most of the THOUGHTS and ACTIONS you take daily are based on HABITS you’ve developed over time.
Your brain is wired to CONSERVE ENERGY whenever possible, and one of the ways it does this is by falling back to what it already knows.
AND WHAT YOUR BRAIN KNOWS ARE HABITS.
For the past 10 years, JAMES CLEAR has sought the answer to a single question we’ve all asked at one time or another…HOW CAN WE LIVE BETTER? As you’ll discover, much of the answer lies in our HABITS.
In fact, through his ongoing research, James has become a groundbreaking EXPERT this subject.
His book, ATOMIC HABITS, has sold more than 5 MILLION COPIES worldwide and been translated into more than 50 LANGUAGES.
Developing the right habits is an ESSENTIAL BUILDING BLOCK of my success and something I still work on daily, so I was pumped up for this week’s episode.
    You will be, too.
Like any other way to improve your life, there’s a right way to develop good habits, and James lays out a detailed 4-STEP STRATEGY for doing so.
From my experience, I’ve learned you don’t need to make massive changes in your habits. Often you just need to change ONE MORE HABIT to propel you to new and much higher levels of success. When you stack up small improvements by executing the right habits, you create a COMPOUNDING EFFECT that produces tremendous results.
We also get into how your habits are affected by your physical and social environments, James’ 4 Laws of Behavior Change, and why “NO” is the ultimate productivity hack. Let’s face it, saying NO is a problem we often struggle with (including me!), so this is a part of our exchange you’ll really want to FOCUS on.
If you have problems breaking bad habits, lack the motivation to change your habits, or struggle with life in general, it’s time to hear what James has to say so you can change your habits and start CHANGING YOUR LIFE.
    0:00 Intro
2:07 How can habits make us 1% better every day?
6:48 The math behind getting 37.78 times better
    8:41 What are identity-based habits?
12:43 Establish a habit before improving it
16:37 What really is a habit & how to create one?
20:06 The 4 laws of behavior change
26:30 How physical & social environment affects habits
34:02 How James manages his phone usage
37:09 How to use social media to your benefit
40:15 Saying "No" is the ultimate productivity hack
44:02 What to do when you slip away from your habits
48:48 James' advice to someone if they ran into him in a Starbucks

I am in the process of reinventing myself after many years of drug and alcohol addiction. I have been searching for a way to “reset” my mind and to let go of the past. I believe I have just found my new path and I will be reading atomic habits and listening to Ed from here on out. Thank you so much for having MR Clear on the podcast and sharing the word!!

Love the idea that too much planning is just procrastination. I definitely see that in me and my dreams, I want to start doing more instead of planning more, because nothing happens perfectly as you plan it anyway. That's called life. Thanks Ed!

      @FezyBydesign Рік тому +1

For me, I get that perfection for just few days, then if I find that I was not perfect in just one day in that row... it messes me up... I stop what I was doing take a break and promise myself I will start again... its the perfectioninst in me causing me to procrastinate before I get back to what I planned to do.

First time watching show, EVERY SINGLE THING THAT I HEARD TODAY I WAS TAKING NOTES. I have listen to this every morning fir 2 weeks. I found most amazing, as I have unknowingly fallen into that habit of being the person who writes a list to write a list, that must do research and read books and videos before being proactive and jumping in, finding what FEW GOALS I WANT TO MOST SUCEED IN, and put all my effort into that rather than a “BrainDump” of ideas I seem to always be rewriting and reorganizing daily… all while my cortisol levels are rising, my productivity is almost nonexistent and I can’t figure out why?🧐 I’ve done all the work right??
Loved the show, it not only introduced me to your show, but I have read atomic had it twice and I am a huge fan. However I love how you dissected the book and it made it much more understandable and honestly that’s why I have woken up to it for the last two weeks because it is a motivational tool. Thank you and I am definitely a new fan and will spread the word!!

Absolutely loved this interview with James Clear. Agree with Ed that Atomic Habits, if applied, is life-changing. His behavioral laws are so on point. Today, marks 440 consecutive days of exceeding 11,000 steps daily. This is my gateway behavior that has lead to so many other positive habits. For 2022, I’ve set my sights on reduced coffee consumption. Today is day five of only one cup per day. I moved my coffee pot to downstairs and only have the small Kuerig in the kitchen.

First time I watched you on UA-cam. Awesome interview. I am implementing some of these ideas right away. Love the one with just the one app on the first page of your phone as well as the idea of leaving your phone in another room. It is so true as well about our environment. If I buy cookies, I eat them and then beat myself up for why did I even buy them! Loved this interview. One of my experiences is when I am out shopping and I look at other peoples' shopping carts to see what they are buying then look at that person's physical condition. I completely agree with you, Ed! I first stumbled upon James Clear while watching an interview on London Real. I was completely hooked by what he was saying. I have read his book and always feel like re-reading, watching more of his interviews, discussions, etc. The solutions to a lot of our daily problems lie in his research findings because they are not some fanciful stuff but real workable examples that people inherently know about but overlook or underestimate their importance. 'Atomic Habits' is a reminder of how to sort it out by implementing in our daily lives. The challenge is not to lose focus. Great interview. Truly loved it and I can see how it resonated with you as well.

I loved all of the examples in this interview; small habits can have a massive impact if you give it time and stay consistent

Kaizen is the process of small continuous change, been around since WWII and resurfaced in Dr. Robert Maurer’s book One Small Step Change Your Life, must read if you want the psychological background. Idea of 1% gain was introduced by motivational speaker Brian Tracy some 15-20 years ago. In the words of John Lennon, ‘It’s all rehash.’ Admittedly, Atomic Habits is still a great
    read.

I'm 18 minutes in, and I just barely heard this concept of "one more" for the first time- and I just practiced it too, for the first time😄. I did one more minute of walking on my treadmill, as I listened to this very encouraging video!
I look forward to the book The Power of One More!

James book really helped me in my tough situation where I didn't know how to handle with many failures that came across. Habits can work for us or against us--Simple and eye opening. Anyway, hats off to this guy ! Thanks a lot !
