We did most of our travelling while my husband and I were still working. We had ten years of travelling to many place in North America and Europe. Now that we are retired and there are health issues we look back over all the places we have visited and how lucky we were to visit them. We don't miss travel, we live through all of our friends that continue to travel. Don't leave travelling until retirement because you never know about health issues and economic issues.

I agree. We travelled to a lot of our bucket list places while we were still working. Drove to all the Canadian provinces and territories except Nunavet, did African safari, Europe, a number of cruises. Unfortunately my husband is in a nursing home now at 61, I still work but plan to retire in the next 2 to 3 years. I am glad we travelled while we had our health otherwise my husband would have missed out had we waited for retirement

My wife had a heart attack which required two stents a year ago. She is taking daily medicine and her recovery has been fine. We are going to take our grandson to Disneyland, as a person with a pre existing condition do you recommend increased travel insurance. My credit card will cover my wife if she has had no ongoing or recurring conditions within 90 days of travel. We will also ask for our Dr. to document that her health status is ok for travel. Thanks for all the info your channel provides.

    Hey 👋 Norm & Tina!
You’re looking good in navy & yellow, and the lighting below is akin to having a fireside chat- very nice!
I found something in retirement I thought I had put in my bucket for good- plein air, alla prima painting! I’m doing 2 per week. I have 11 now. I seem to have a special talent and ability. So after about 3 years in retirement, I’m an artist!! A real life go-outside-experiencing-the-fresh-air-and-colors-in-oil paint-on-canvas artist. After 45 years as a commercial artist, I was done. Now, I can’t believe my new life. I can paint like it’s 1977. All it took was my wife dragging me, kicking and screaming, to a group painting session at our local Senior Center, and getting my feet wet again. Then folks told me I should teach the class! Crazy. I look back on my paintings and I’m amazed. “Look”, I say to my wife, “I did that.” And beyond this, we paid for a cruise today to Nova Scotia, Canada- for Sept on Norwegian. Life is great!, and getting better.

Ah, Europe! We're heading there tomorrow for almost 6 months. We'll be visiting England, Wales, Scotland, Montenegro, Albania, Kosovo, Sweden, and Italy. Our retirement goal is to hike long-distance trails all over the world, interact with the locals, eat their food, and see the sights. Your recent train trip was partly what inspired me to book the Arctic Circle sleeper train to travel from Stockholm to Abisko, rather than fly.

@@PrayingABlessedDay4You In 2014 we did a 3-week bicycle tour in counties Kerry and Mayo. That was a bit sketchy at times so I don't think we'd try that again. I was fortunate to spot piano wire stretched across a country lane before we ran into it. That was evil. Then there's the rain, tour buses and twisty windy lanes with high hedgerows to contend with. I became an Irish citizen during the pandemic but our upcoming 5 1/2 month trip is already fully accounted for.

@@glennet9613 In 2017 we hiked the length of the Pyrenees from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean by the Haute Route Pyrenees, crossing the path of the French Camino de Santiago. I believe this route is incomparably more spectacular, and more diverse, than the Camino. This summer we plan to hike the Cammino di San Francesco from Florence to Vatican City. In 2019 we did the northern half, from Florence to Assisi but we ran out of time and we were already going 50% faster than recommended. We need to take more time to smell the roses.

Travel was the main reason my wife and I retired. We had 6 weeks vacation annually but it never seemed enough. So some of our out of country trips include Scotland, Norway (Lofoten Islands), Iceland, Georgia and Azerbaijan, Montenegro and many others. Our list includes 29 countries and 20 major cities. Within Canada, we just bought a new travel trailer replacing one we used for 18 years. Trips will be the local parks, but next year off to Grasslands NP and Riding Mountain. Other locations include Newfoundland (have been there for our honeymoon in 1991 and 2 visits since, Vancouver Island (Pac Rim NP) Whitehorse and Dawson in the Yukon. A final plan is to take tge trailer all tge way to the Baja and Mexico. So we figure our current list keeps us busy till we are 70 then we can do up another one!!! We both love your channel and appreciate the great advice for newbie retirees 😂.

For people who don't have much money, I have found so many things close to my home that aren't very expensive, beaches, waterfalls, festivals, different foods, music is often free in a lot of cities in the summer, and sometimes just driving the backroads to see where they go is so relaxing and fun. I am disheartened to learn the passing of a Canadian treasure, Gordon Lightfoot, on May 1, 2023 in Toronto. Our shared American and Canadian treasure will be gravely missed, and will never be forgotten in our hearts. I am glad he blessed our countries and added to our cultures. Every time I hear a song of his, it's like I wish it would last forever. Now for a spin of the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. I am in tears. 😥😥 Our common histories and love of freedom and liberty will always be held dearly in my heart. May we both know and treasure our eternal friendship, ensemble toujours!

I used to travel to Puerto Rico for business regularly and for me, when in San Juan, it is mandatory to go to Old San Juan and eat at the restaurant Marmalade. The White Bean soup there is fabulous. I took my wife to San Juan for a holiday and insisted she have the White Bean soup, she didn't really want soup that night but I insisted. After her first spoonful she looked up and said: "This is the best thing I've ever tasted". It's not cheap to eat at Marmalade but well worth it.

If we are not careful, AI could replace a lot of jobs in the future. Hope we use technology to our advantage not the other way around.
    Rainy weekend, yikes😢

52 states? I can see that by including D.C. and Puerto Rico. Very cool way of thinking about the U.S. in practicality.

My brother in law is African American. He's not black, hes white but was born in Africa. We are doing a Safari later this year with him and his wife. A related tour guide who speaks Swahili.
We fish a lot and travel the US to enjoy the different types of sport fishing available.
We go to Montana every year and visit the national parks.
An Alaskan cruise is on slate for next year.
Travel is the best resson to be retired. 😊

What a great list of options. Indeed 'waiting' for later one might miss out of realizing many a dream. If possible, start early, small steps is better than no steps at all later. ~While working we were restricted in when our holidays took place. Now we love mid week excluding general holiday time get aways in our own country. Exploring all the provinces and small towns. Prior to major summer holidays we have a 4-5 week holiday plan and one after the major holidays. Not only are the hot spots less busy but the prices lower. I don't have a bucket list - we just do what pops up in our minds regarding places of interest at the time of planning. Great ideas like I said. You've listed lots of options. Have a great week and I'm sure you are looking forward to the trailer trips. Have a great Sunday. 🌷🇳🇱 🙋‍♀ 🇳🇿 🌺

We are wondering about an Alaskan cruise. Can you recommend a cruise line? Is there a best time of year to go? Is it worth the extra cost of an exterior room with a balcony?

@@ThisIsOurRetirement Could you do a program on cruising? How does one wade through the choices? There is one price for the room but so many additional costs. There is premium service, excursions, tipping, etc. It would be helpful to know how to plan a budget for a cruise.

Great suggestions - thank you! We definitely want to visit all 50 states. We did a Carribean cruise in March. We had a good time (not great). It was definitely geared toward families with young kids. Not that many activities for retirees. Do you have a cruise line preference?

We've done about a dozen cruises, Alaska and Panama Canal being the favourites. I would recommend Princess or Celebrity for retirees.

NCL was okay but RC felt like we were living in an amusement park.

If you are thinking trains in Europe - they are wonderful. You can take a Cunard cruise from (I think) New York to Southampton, Great Britain and take trains all over Europe. There is a couple who does UA-cam videos (Grounded Life Travels) about US train travel, which could give you lots of information.
