    So I have a couple:
    1). There is an alternate start to “The Break of Dawn” involving going to Mount Kilkreath before finding the beacon
    2). When you’re learning Wuld from the Graybeards, you can use the Slow Time shout to get through the gate instead

However, if you don’t collect the beacon first but instead go to the temple of meredia she will engage the player and start The Break of Dawn by commanding you go find her beacon.

    Some small details I've noticed in recent playthroughs that I THINK Nate hasn't talked about (I honestly can't be sure, there's so many videos that I may have missed a couple lol):
    1. Members of the Companions (+ Tilma and Eorlund) will not react violently to a transformed lycanthrope dragonborn, and even better: they'll use the dialogue they'd use if the player is naked, leading to funny exchanges like Ria commenting that she doesn't see THAT every day or Vilkas yelling at you to put some clothes on. Side note: They'll also defend you from the rest of Whiterun if you transform in town, even during your first transformation if they happen to be in the vicinity. During mine, Eorlund straight up killed Belethor in the streets because he happened to be around to see him try to slash at me in wolf form lol.
    2. In the main questline, if you've received the mission from Faranger to get the dragonstone and after you've retrieved it, stopping at Riverwood's inn will reveal that Delphine isn't there. If you talk to him, Orgnar will point this out and if you ask him how to rent a room, he says you can't but that you're free to sleep on the floor if you want. You won't be able to get a room there until you return to Dragonsreach with the dragonstone and conclude the quest.
    3. During the "Proving Honor" quest in the Companions questline, you can actually leave the crypt immediately after Farkas transforms and ask the members of the Inner Circle what it's like being a werewolf. Skjor, Aela and Vilkas basically just tell you to keep your mouth shut, while Kodlak is shocked that you know and promises to discuss it with you properly after the end of your trial.
    4. During the Windhelm "Blood on the Ice" Quest, Calixto Corrium is one of the first witnesses to Susanna's murder that the DB has to question. His leading line will be "Always sad when someone has to die". Think about that: not it's sad that someone died, but that someone HAD TO die. It's a small subtle allusion to his identity as the real killer!
    5. Unlike nearly every other enemy in the game, slashing at draugr will not cause any blood to splatter on your weapon. This also extends to dwemer machines for obvious reasons but does NOT extend to ghosts (probably because ghosts are really just normal npcs with a spectral effect overlayed).
    6. After the end of "No One Escapes From Cidna Mine", Thonar will start hitting on his receptionist as part of his radiant dialogue... his receptionist who was the wife of Eltrys, also known as the guy who Thonar had murdered for knowing too much. He made this poor girl a widow only a few months into her marriage, while pregnant, and he's got the gall to hit on her afterward! What a trash man. At least with the Markarth questline complete, you can personally assassinate him...

      @@neoyuls i doubt it would freeze.. skyrim is not VERY cold.. it's most likely between 35 and 50 degrees, the streams are not even frozen in most places. in the colder areas of skyrim it would be more like a refrigerator set to a low setting, but probably not cold enough to freeze raw meat. ideally meat would be frozen at about 0 degrees (-18 Celsius) the streams would be pretty much solid ice and lakes frozen over if the temps were that low.

  • @Ranylyn
    @Ranylyn 5 років тому +2

    Amusing as always, but I do have a few comments:
    1) I'm actually convinced it's a mistake. There seem to be several of them in that region. For example, at Shor's Stone just north of there, Sylja can be referred to as Grelka. Grelka is back in Riften and is never seen in Shor's Stone under any vanilla circumstance. My guess is that the writers got several characters confused.
    2) I actually just think that they did the raw food so as to not give the player cooked food because it heals more; it's not the only place that has raw food apparently being served, hence why I believe it to be a limiter to encourage the player to interact with cooking or alchemy to get their healing items. Considering the cold in that region, the meat would be preserved in transit, so I don't think it's logictically implausible for them to get some meat to their soldiers.
    3) I played several versions of the base game game and none of them actually had a lid on that coffin. I think it may have beeneither Special Edition or a mod that put the lid back on. This is similar to the time you noted there's nightshade behind Camilla Valerius's house; there's no plants there in the base original game.
    7) While I have no evidence for this, I do think it's plausible that Harkon did have the castle built... but before he was a Vampire. I feel like there would be more Vampire Lords about flaunting their power if it was something that just anyone could achieve, so it seems likely that making the deal in the first place requires significant resources that would only be availaible to someone of comparable status to a Jarl. It seems equally likely to having him just take it over, considering he seems like someone who won't be satisfied with just any home. (As for why there was a statue of Mara and he turned to the Daedra... any number of things can test someone's faith and see them converted.)

  • @sentinel7672
    @sentinel7672 5 років тому +1

    Eight things I've noticed that haven't been covered yet:
    1. When doing the Dark Brotherhood questline, the Thieves Guild member (I forget his name) has different dialogue when you take him the Elder Council Amulet if you've already completed the Thieves Guild questline. It's possible that there's also dialogue for if you're partway through the Thieves Guild questline when you speak to him for the Dark Brotherhood questline.
    2. Keeping with the Thieves Guild, when you first enter Riften you'll see Sapphire trying to extort payment for a loan from Riften's stable hand. If you talk to him, he'll ask you to help with the loan since Sapphire stole the shipment of equipment he borrowed money from her to get. Generally, if you talk to her you have the option to either persuade her or pay the loan off yourself, but if you're the Guildmaster of the Thieves Guild, you can use your position and knowledge of the Guild's rules to intimidate her into backing down by calling her out on breaking the Guild's rules by not giving the Guild a cut and promising to overlook it if she lets the loan go.
    3. In the game's main questline, when you talk to Tsun and he asks who you are, you're given a list of options based off the guild questlines you've completed up until that point. The dialogue for them is about what you'd expect if you reveal you're the Harbinger of the Companions, Listener of the Dark Brotherhood, or a Nightingale, where he responds with respect for the first and distrust for the last two. If you reveal that you're the Archmage of the College of Winterhold, however, Tsun will actually comment on the fact that Nords distrust and despise magic before stating that it's still just as honorable to wield spells as it is to use a bow or sword. This suggests that, while most Nords view mages as weak and cowardly, Tsun and Shor don't care about the tools a warrior uses so long as they're strong and honorable.
    4. Dragon shouts are each made up of three words in the Dragon tongue. What may not be totally obvious at first with the named dragons until you reach a certain point in the main questline or the Dawnguard questline is that every dragon's name is also made of three words in the Dragon Tongue, making every dragon's name technically a shout. This is important because, as stated, using a dragon's name as a shout is viewed as a challenge between dragons that they can't resist. Many of these have actual translations: Paarthurnax, for instance, is Ambition-Overlord-Cruelty, which could be loosely taken to mean "ambitious, cruel overlord" or something similar. This can be taken as a subtle nod to the fact that Parrthurnax was once one of Alduin's most important lieutenants before betraying him to teach the Thu'um to mankind. Alduin's name translates to "Destroyer-Devour-Master" which both describes his role as the World Eater and master of all other dragons.
    5. Bouncing over to the Dawnguard questline, when you get sent to Dimhollow Crypt in the quest Awakening, you fight through a collection of vampires and their undead minions. What might not be known if you rush through the dungeon is that members of Harkon's court are mentioned twice during the quest. The first is when you enter it and two vampires talk about killing Tolan before one complains about the delay in their mission, saying they're tempted to report their group's leader to one of Harkon's two Councilors. When you reach the area where Serana is sealed away, if you don't rush in, you'll hear a vampire talking to a captured Vigilant before killing him. If you move slowly rather than killing the two vampires, they'll talk briefly about the situation before Lokil, the leader of the vampires, comments that their success here may get them an influential place in Harkon's court, explicitly referring to Harkon and one of his two councilors by name.
    6. Still with the Awakening quest, when you release Serana she'll ask you to take her back home and you'll get the quest Bloodline. What the game doesn't tell you is it's possible to instead head back to Fort Dawnguard first to report to Isran. This interaction has a few interesting points as you can not only fill him in on what, or who, you found, but also Serana's request. Curiously, if you do this, one of the options is to mention she wants to be taken to her castle, which you aren't aware of as her home until later in the quest, and no matter what dialogue option you pick Isran will tell you to take her to her family's castle. If you don't take Harkon's gift, Isran will remember this conversation when you speak to him outside Fort Dawnguard after leaving Castle Volkihar.
    7. Everyone remembers Valerica, Serana's mother who chose to hide in the Soul Cairn and seal away Serana to thwart Harkon's desire to complete the Tyranny of the Sun prophesy. We also all remember our trek through Backreach as part of either the main questline or Dawnguard. What many people may not realize unless they've read the book "an Accounting of the Elder Scrolls" is that Elder Scrolls are much, much more complicated than they appear to be. The Moth Priests reveal to the author of the book that the Elder Scrolls don't actually exist "in a countable number" and demonstrates this by having the author count out the number of Scrolls in a repository, give one to the Priest, and then count again to reveal that the number of Scrolls sitting there has increased. In fact, before the events of Skyrim, all the Elder Scrolls in the Imperial Library vanished. These two facts indicate that the Elder Scrolls are only physical manifestations of something and are, quite possibly, even semi-sentient. What does this have to do with Valerica, Serana, and Blackreach? Each of them held (or in the case of Blackreach, contained) an Elder Scroll for hundreds or even thousands of years. It's entirely possible that, during this timeframe, these very same Scrolls were also in the Imperial Library on a shelf or four attended by the Moth Priests at the exact same time. The fact that these Scrolls are at the locations or in the possession of the people we find them with indicates a possibly conscious choice on the part of the Scrolls to be the guiding hand through defeating the threats of both Harkon and Alduin.
    8. Sticking with Valerica, this is a small one, but after you defeat Harkon it's potentially possible to return to the Soul Cairn to let her know the threat's been dealt with. If you do so, she'll leave the Soul Cairn and set up shop in her laboratory in Castle Volkihar.

    @speks36 5 років тому

    Great video as usual, Nate. But there are a couple of tiny details you may have missed while playing the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim:
    @ 6:57
    They actually do mention Falion's relation to Janna in game. Before you join the College of Winterhold, you're able to ask various innkeepers where you can learn magic. If you ask Janna, she'll ask if you're looking for Falion, get defensive, tell you to go to Winterhold and to "leave her brother alone."
    @ 11:40
    Forelhost has an interesting backstory that probably explains the tiny draugr.
    A journal can be found in the crypt(I think the first bedroom in the dungeon). The abridged version is that an ancient Nord general, Skorm Snow-Strider, laid siege to the crypt. When his men final took the courtyard and entered the place they soon discovered that Raghot(the resident dragon priest) had ordered his forces to collapse the hallways and poison the wells in the temple.
    Later on in the temple, you'll find an "Alchemist's Note" that tells of one of Raghot's alchemists expressing concern with him about mass producing poison and distributing it to the whole temple, at the end of the note it reads, " If we are to die, then let us die with blades in our hands, rather than with poison on our lips and daggers at our children's throats!" They probably killed their own children to spare them from the poison and wrapped them up in cloth for an improptu burial.
    On that note, I want to end this comment with a Keep the great work, and I'm looking forward to another 10 tiny details.

    Ever heard of bard's leap in the reach? Take the leap and a bard's ghost will comment on it at the bottom! It is next to the briarheart ritual you mentioned in another video once. You make great content and thanks for reading.

    Ok, i wanted to comment about the northwatch keep, the thalmor prison. Now, the cannibal theory is sound enough given the lack of cows and abundance of prisoners. However, as you stated, the thalmor are overall snobbish. So, these "high society" type, in my speculation, are actually treating themselves to a high class delicacy: steak tartare, raw chopped beef. Yeah, there's no cows nearby and raw beef doesn't keep very well, but as you state in multiple videos it's a world of magic, dragons, and all kinds of fantasy themes. That in mind, it's not too farfetched to think these high elves had the delicacy special delivered to them while having to stay and keep watch over the prisoners. Anyway, great catch on the detail, just think steak tartare makes more sense than cannibalism. Especially when cannibals in the game usually have loads of human flesh and meat around and there are only 2 raw beef at the location, reinforcing the rare delicacy idea.

    Regarding the Forelhost detail, you may recall that the dungeon is home to one of the last bastions of the Dragon Cult, and indeed you can find literature in the ruin suggesting it was discovered in 1E 139 and besieged by forces of Harald, then Jarl of Windhelm. The childrens' bodies were part of a ritual suicide by the cultists, possibly to power a magical barrier keeping the attackers out.
