I was taught to leave a big glob on the zerk... kinda protects the fitting and big enough glob stops dirt from getting anywhere near the fitting. when you wipe it off nothing but fresh grease touching the zerk

Hey guys just a tip I was shown, always jack up your front end just enough to take the pressure off the steering components you don’t need a lift or to take the wheels off, you just want to take the weight off your steering components letting your front suspension droop out, if you can see light under your steering tires that’s high enough. This is to allow the fresh grease to reach in between joints and shafts much easier. If your normal routine is greasing without taking the weight off the steering components the first time you grease your truck with the front end sagged out you’ll notice the difference on that first squeeze the grease gun. Personally I pump then crank the wheel back and forth and go back and pump again but I kind of have a little ocd so to each their own lol

I wish they would put fittings on all of them. I had a tie rod end go at 120,000 miles. It punched a hole in the wheel, and ruined the tire. Left me stranded, with a big Bill, including the tow.
But at least some bean counter saved 50 cents per truck by eliminating grease fittings.

If you are only supposed to grease it until the boot is full, how do you add more grease the next oil change without popping the boot? The grease doesn't just disappear after driving 3k miles, right? Also, what do you think of the driveshaft manufacturer recommendations that say to add grease to u joints until it's coming out of all the needle bearing caps?

So why can a modern f450 tow like 2x as much as one from 20 years ago? What changes, is it just a matter of power or is it brakes/frame/suspension? They're nearly identical weight and the brakes look the same, really the big difference, I can tell is the power, 275 hp vs 450 hp. But the old 7.3 can duplicate that power so would it be reasonable to think if someone has chipped their old f450 that they could then tow 26000lbs?

I’m a Ford tech that usually works on 450/550s, that being said the oil change intervals on newer vehicles are going up and up. I like the idea of greasing components and doing a visual inspection at half the oil change interval. So for me I run a 6K mile oil change interval. At 3K or there abouts, I’ll stick my head underneath my truck, inspect everything then grease it. Doesn’t take long.
