Urbex: ABANDONED Heaving House

  • Explored this abandoned house in the Spring of 2015. This video features an exploration of an abandoned dilapidated house built in the 1830s that has a military background being home to one of Canada's greatest military leaders during the First World War. He was born in this house during the 1800s. It has been abandoned since December of 2012 and used as a party house since. It was abandoned after the municipality order they remove a wood stove that was dangerously installed and install smoke detectors. Smoke detectors were installed since and the wood stove removed by order of the fire chief. The land is owned by farmers who farm the land and would sometimes rent the house out. Since the municipality order along with the state of disrepair of the house, they have left it to sit and eventually fall into itself or have it demolished, whichever comes first. Historians wanted to fix it up to preserve the memory of this military hero's childhood home, but it's just too far gone. I'm hoping my video will help serve that purpose. An upstairs bathroom leak caused the kitchen ceiling to collapse, and the exterior bricks are crumbling. The basement has experienced a lot of frost heave which has affected parts of the foundation, so not that easy to repair. Enjoy! :)

One kid visiting an abandoned house would wander around thinking how cool and atmospheric it was. Two or more and they have to smash it up.

Once the heat gets turned off and some windows get busted out, it doesn't take too long for paint to start peeling off. Mostly it's just latex painted over oil based paint or on a too glossy or dirty surface. Only takes a few days of that freeze-thaw cycle to do it's dirty deed.
The problem with heaving on that house comes from the way the additions were added with rain runoff coming back towards the main house off from the add-on roofs. Water finds it's way around to the foundation instead of away from it, freezes and thaws a lot and ice causes it to rack and twist the foundation.

Hi Pam I'm a senior in Alberta, I stumbled across one of your videos quite by accident about a week ago. Ever since, any free time I have I'm sitting here watching all of your explores and enjoying them immensely! You could say I am addicted to them now LOL I'm just going to keep going until I can't find anymore. I know you posted this one over a year ago now so I don't know if you'll even see this, but I wanted to ask if you still do this. I sure hope so, you're so good at it and your videos are an absolute pleasure to watch and listen to. Kudos for taking nothing but video and leaving everything as it was. Today happens to be Canada's 150th. birthday, so Happy Canada Day! xox

Just came across your video, and very glad I did - you are the best - no question about it! Wonderful documentation, and so well filmed as usual. Like I've always said, there should be a TV documentary called "Tiki's Exploration of Abandoned Homes"… definitely your narration and filming are so much better than what is on TV!
The basement of this house is particularly unnerving, I've never seen anything like it. I wonder what causes it. Hate the destruction by vandals - never could understand why they would do this. You share my love of birds, and horror of spiders! *shared by my daughter as well. Please keep on filming these homes… miss you.

As an old ex solider I really hope they do find away to restore this property Pam, but I think you have hit the nail on the head, it's too far gone & it would cost mega-bucks to fix :-[, would like to know more about this man, so if you could give me a name to research I would be grateful. I cannot emphasise to you & your Canadian viewers the total sadness of carnage that Canadian Military Men went through & the courage they gave in the name of there country during the first & second world wars, beautiful young men slaughtered in useless frontal attacks & its the same story with other countries of the dominion, Least We Forget. The best gift we can give is to remember them & there families who lived with the suffering of never seeing there loved ones again, read the stories watch the doco's, Example ? how many Canadians would know the over 35000 Canadian merchant seaman loss there lives in WW2, most drowned or burnt to death in the freezing North Atlantic sea & that was non combat role just amazingly brave men.

Whether it works or not, it's not often you see a big-screen TV in an abandoned house! I bet it's quite heavy, else someone would have taken it by now.
5:30 I always tell people to change their smoke alarm battery when I hear the beep lol. They become oblivious to the sound. As for the paint, maybe that particular coat was of a cheap variety, or, as you suggest, the weather played a role.
9:00 What's different about the vandalism to this house is the near total lack of grafitti along with it.
10:00 And the usual complement of coat hangers. :)
11:00 Looks like the old Nintendo Entertainment System. We always had several on hand. ^_^
12:20 Just judging by the controls on the front, I'd have to say it's an early flat-screen monitor. There was a brief period of CRT TVs and monitors that had flat panels.
13:17 That computer thing on the floor might just be a server blade. There's a beer mug on the wall, as well lol. I must agree that it was probably these foundation issues that made the owners give up on it. But where there is a will and money, it could maybe still be saved.
Thank you for the privilege of this fascinating tour, Pam. You're the best urbexer! As always gratefully yours, Lewis. :D

    • @TikiTrex
      @TikiTrex  8 років тому +3

+TraditionalHymns Yes, lack of graffiti is a mystery. I guess they were high enough on what they were smoking to get high on paint can fumes as well, lol. I loved those old Nintendo systems. Because they are so hard to find, I have a DOS simulator on my computer and a controller, and still play the 80s and 90s Nintendo games on here. It works pretty good. Yes, I'm stuck in a time warp from that era but I loved it. You are the best, Lewis! Thanks so much for the sweet comments as always! :)

Oh, I hear you, Lewis! I did a lot of my Nintendo game playing in the 90s. My favourites were Zelda, Mario Brothers, Super Metroid (one of my favorites still today), and the old DOS game Leisure Suit Larry which was one of the first games I started playing. I still have that one on my DOS simulator. My son has the full collection of that one on CDs. That was a classic, lol.

Love your detailed abandoned finds. It saddens me that so many savable homes with history r demolished or torn to shreds by youth. SMH, please be careful&protect ur self w/mask or gloves. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks. There was actually an infoboard in front of the house set up by the local heritage society so I took a picture of it.

Hot water tanks and a furnace! First thing to go in Detroit. Bad DIY renovations here. I often wonder what people are thinking when they blow money on senseless "up grades"
    Another great Video!!!!

+dave1135 Thanks, Dave! And Happy Valentine's Day to you as well. I actually put a notation with the proper name at that part of the video. I noticed it is under the YT play bar, so a little hidden. :)

Another great video and lovely commentary. Shame the house is too far gone in repairs with the history that's behind. Shocked to hear the smoke alarm still beebs warning of a low battery after the amount of time the house has been empty.
