The take away the fear part is true. I remember starting off and seeing my mechanic take the hoses on and off and thinking to myself "damn I'm going to be doing this everyday"
With standalone core depressors, you also have to be careful not to over-depress the Schrader core, or you could damage it and get the pin stuck in its depressed state. Luckily, the one time it happened to me, it was just nitrogen for a leak repair, so releasing the nitrogen and replacing the core after the system was flat was trivial.
I bought the core depressor and first time I used it over depressed the core. It was leaking afterwards, with refrigerant behind. Luckily it was not so much and I was able to cap it and then get a valve core removal tool to replace it. But what was supposed to be less stress turned out to be more stress. Since then, I've learned to not over depress it. The instructions really should have warned the user.
pro tip: verify the sourcce of replacement cores if they are not in the actual brand packaging. its not uncommon for supply houses to buy the wrong ones in bulk and giving you cores meant for bike tires.

Isn't the fabric back on those gloves still a problem with soaking refrigerant? You can't assume the spray will always and only hit the palm region of your hand. Right?
Amazing video and info
Always a pleasure to watch your educational videos and tips. Please keep the good work of teaching 🙏
Excellent instructions Bert. Thanks.

froze part of my hand on a job earlier, and I am admittedly new. still numb and hurts like hell, but I plan to invest in something like these

What the hell is a Strater core
Would screwing in a core to far be the reason why I’m not getting a good reading on my gauges.
