“Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but they refuse. They cling to the realm, or the gods, or love - illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is” - Lord Baelish
Olenna says things with no regard for the consequences because she’s lived her life already. She’s done the things she needed to do so now she’s just living her best life speaking her mind and snatching everyone’s wig
Could apply that quote to GOT, I'm scared for last season when everyone dies. Or in the final episode, all seems good..... yayyyy, then in last 90 seconds, that comet from season 1 hits their planet and kills them all. Guess that'd be justice, they're all kinda horrible.
They call Lady Olenna the Queen of Thorns. I absolutely love her. The interaction between her and Tywin was so awesome, because these two are survivors of their generation and they have played the Game of Thrones for far too long.
Chaos Is A Ladder: Littlefinger's speech still gives me chills even now. I love how the scene was executed, the way the words matched the scene. Chaos isn't a pit....Chaos Is A Ladder. "Many who've tried to climb it failed, and never get to try again; The fall breaks them..." (Cue shot of Roz who tried to "climb the ladder" so to speak by rising above her position as a prostitute, and ends up being killed over it.) "...and some, are given the chance to climb, but they refuse. They cling to the realm. Or the Gods, or Love. Illusions!" (Cue shot of Sansa crying her eyes out. She had been given the chance to leave with Littlefinger. But she clung to the idea of finding safety and love at Highgarden and often prays to the Gods for help. She watches as her last hope of escape sail away, the illusion of her dreams have shattered.) "...only the ladder is real. The climb, is all there is." (Cue shot of Jon reaching the top of the Wall, having climbed it successfully.) It's such a shocking, but also a brilliant scene.
Garden Rose everybody in this scene is brilliant! Sophie Turner, Conleth Hill, Aidan Gillen, Jack Gleeson, it's like they all talked to each other to match their acting. Except they all felt the scene as they should. Completely brilliant.
CHAOS IS A LADDER! One of the greatest quotes of the show in my opinion! I literally just searched this scene on UA-cam and BAM! You guys upload this reaction! How perfect 😂
He's really messing with Theon. Not just physically but really messing with his head. That release and capture trick was mindfuckery on an epic level. Now he's playing games while carving him up. Taunting him with water and then pouring it out. He's a sadistic bastard that one.
It’s all about the context - the initial torture was right after the whole Bran and Rickon deception and the sacking of Winterfell. It’s been a while since then. And trumpet-boy takes things much farther, flaying the skin off Theon’s finger like that. *shudder*
I really love Berrick and Thoros in the books and in the show. Their conversations are always great. Love how different T’s and Mel’s ways to worship the Lord of light are. His speech “he was my friend and he was dead” always touches me. Actors did a great job. But sadly people rarely talk about them.
Joffrey's issue isn't the fact he's a result of incest, he is a result of Cersei's upbringing. Joffrey is her creation in full sense of that word. Remember when she told him he can do whatever he likes and that once he was the king he will "make what the truth is"...well there you go.
Well, it's more than just that. he always was a bad child with some problems but his mother made it worse. His father was never there for him. But all Joffrey wanted as a kid was to be seen by his father.
They really do seem to underestimate the sheer shittiness of Joffrey during their watches. Him telling the Kingsguard to murder Tyrion because he didn't like to be undermined wouldn't surprise me at all. Then again, I have the benefit of knowing book Joffrey put a hit on Bran just because he didn't like that he was taking up others' attention. Paid the assassin with his own valyrian steel dagger too, one his uncle gave to him for his nameday. So yeah, they seem to overestimate Joffrey's cowardice. He's a spineless coward, sure, but there's a reason his preferred weapon is a crossbow. He likes to give his victims plenty of pain from a distance, just far enough that they can't retaliate but just close enough that he can enjoy the show. It also helps that using a crossbow means he doesn't have to show off his abysmal martial abilities.
You gotta admit, Theon’s acting in the torture scenes are pretty damn amazing, regardless on how you feel about him. Even the guy torturing him does a great job. His eyes are crazy haha.
I think the shot of Jon and Ygritte on top of the wall is one of the most beautiful shots in the show. Their theme score is also my second fave (after the Lord of Light). That scene is so gorgeous it makes me tear up each time lol
That CHAOS IS A LADDAH line! One of the best qoutes of GoT. Simple but so deep. Again, another great title from an episode... The Climb from the Wall, and The Climb from the Ladder...
If you really look into it with Mandon Moore's background story and all, the evidence points towards Petyr Baelish. He's been trying to get rid of Tyrion multiple times and almost succeeds when he frames Joffrey's murder on him (he gave Joffrey the idea for the War of the Five Kings dwarf act to make Tyrion's motive obvious), and there are reasons to suspect that Mandon Moore was one of Petyr's people, IIRC because he was a nobody from the Vale travelling to King's Landing along with Petyr among others - just like how he has people planted everywhere else. He even says something at some point about how several of the Kingsguards are his men.
Nikki called it out before it happened onscreen where Melisandra was there for Gendry, nice deductive reasoning Nikki. Steven's breakdown was really amazing as well he summarized and explained Jaime perfectly.
Steven I shed a little tear listening to you breakdown everything in the beginning of the reaction. You guys are on your way to no longer being summer children! 👍🏾❤️
11:07 OMG, this speech about Aria's eyes (chills), you really do have to watch a TV show from the beginning to pick up all those beautiful little things you didn't pick up on the first time.
Joffery did give the order. Cersei wouldn't be so stupid to have Tyrion, who was hand, murdered by a king's guard in front of 100s of Lannister soldiers.
I've read a lot of pros and cons about different candidates with extensive detective work from the books ... and most of them pointed firmly at Petyr Baelish. In short, Petyr has said that some of the Kingsguards are "his men" (he plants men secretly loyal to him in positions everywhere), and Mandon Moore was a nobody from the Vale that came to King's Landing together with Petyr. I don't remember all the details, but there are many convincing clues - and Petyr has been trying to get rid of Tyrion multiple times.
Lady Olenna aka The Queen of Thorns (called so because House Tyrell's sigil is a rose and of course her sharp tongue). I liked the Jamie breakdown as well.
Nikki you are a wonderful wife and probably a great mother. I know this is a late comment but I wish you both the best with each other and your children.
As they said in "Angel" -- hey, there's a series you could react to if you're not familiar with it -- "Redemption isn't a destination. Its a road you're always walking." Charles Dance, Lord Tywin's actor, is amazing, and it took an equally amazing actor to face him as an equal. That's why they got Diana Rigg. Early in Season One there was an amazing shot -- when Jon and Tyrion were both standing on top of the wall looking north, where all was snow-covered and white. Looking south, the world looks much more inviting, doesn't it?
Lady Olena is the definition of a BOSS! Since the Tyrell's sigil is a rose, they call her the queen of thorns. She definitely brings the sting and sticks it hard. lol I freaking love her.
I love how invested you guys have become! Almost like in the beginning you two did it for us fans but now you two do it for us and yourselves! Love being a part of this venture!
Steven killed that intro. Well thought out and said. This is where the show really starts to hit its stride. You guys are what I look forward to each morning now.
It's worth noting, if Bran had outed Jamie and Cersei, not only would they have been killed, their kids would almost definitely have been killed too. I still struggle with Jamie's redemption but I kind of understand trading the life of a kid they don't know for the life of their entire family
I don’t think they say his name before this episode, but if you were to go back and watch you could figure out who has Theon. They have lots of things like that in this show. Seemingly insignificant dialogue that is easily forgotten turns out to be important.
Another Actor Note: Kit Harrington (Jon Snow) pulled an awesome prank on Rose Leslie (Ygritte) when they first started living together. He got a buddy in the GoT prop department to loan him one of their severed heads and placed it in their fridge for Rose to find later. Lesson learned, don't get into a prank war with an actor on a television show with graphic violence. They have access to a lot more resources than what would be considered reasonable.
DarkLight523 It was Kit's head though wasn't it? From Gunpowder? Which of course is even worse, she opened the fridge and saw Kit's head there all bloody and everything 😂 www.express.co.uk/showbiz/tv-radio/875718/Gunpowder-viewers-MORTIFIED-Kit-Harington-severed-head-scenes-Game-of-Thrones
I have watched this series all the way through twice, watching with you all (now the third time through) I'm still learning things that obviously zipped over my head! Loved Steven's wrestling break down to explain Jamie. Funny how we can really hate someone until torture is involved then we are able to see them as human.
When it comes to characters like Jaime who go through what he is currently going through, I always refer back to what Stannis said in Season 2: "a good act does not wash out the bad, nor a bad act the good".
So many characters exist in a morally grey area. There are hardly any totally good or evil characters in the story. And that's what makes it so good. You can never really be sure what side of the fence they might be on when certain situations arise. Just when you think you know them they throw you a change up.
except they already know it,have commented on it and are halfway through the story already. they're not idiots. Did you not pay attention to what they were saying at the top of the video? Mine was a totally generic,non-specific comment on all the characters of the story. I only agreed with what they saying.
I don't remember them saying anything about how unpredictable characters are, just sounded like you're encouraging them to keep their eyes open for it.
Steven's summary of Jaime... -begins slow clap, and brings it to standing ovation- The characters are ALL interesting to watch. Whether they are evil, good, or in between. You never know where they stand until you actually see it. That's why I really love this show! Steven, you hit the nail on the head with your summary. -high five-
That chaos scene...my second favorite scene in the whole show! Petyr and Varys playing that chess game like pros. Littlefinger knows how to play this game and the way he thinks stuff through, as cold-blooded as it may be-make him my favorite character. I'm so excited you're almost done with season 3!
FYI: When Esme Bianco ( Ros ) was notified that she die in this season, she made a request to Dan and Dave that she not be nude; she wanted Ros to die with some dignity.
One of my favorite George RR Martin quotes about game of thrones is “the human heart in conflict with itself is the only thing worth writing about” and if that doesn’t describe GOT perfectly idk what does.
Loved the break down at the beginning of this reaction about Jamie! I think you guys have really grasped one of the major themes of the show (it is much more evident in the books) - which is the theme of identity. Take away the dragons, the magic, and even the political drama, and you realise that this show is about the characters and the conflict they experience within themselves. To me, this is what makes the show relatable, and therefore so engaging! Theon and Jamie are the characters who I think actually experience the conflicts and questionings around belonging and loyalties the most in the show. Loving your reactions and discussions :D
Usually I don't comment on youtube videos but I just gotta say how much I LOVE your reactions. You're so attentive to all the different plot lines, the dialogue, even facial expressions etc. It's an absolute joy to (re)watch one of the all time best TV shows with you guys. A big thumbs up from Denmark - keep up the good work!
Tywin and Olenna absolutely have some of the best dialogue in the whole show. They are wonderfully powerful characters and watching them go head-to-head is a joy. Haha Another great reaction in the books! :D
I loved how Nikki react when she quickly figured about Gendry . And Steven guessing what will happen 👍 . Thnxs guys you too are great reacters . I enjoy watching this
I missed that scene in season 1 where Tywin skins the deer. He really did it. It was his first scene shot for Charles Dance. He'd never done it before, and the director said "go to it". That's how good an actor he is.
Little finger explaining his philosophy on chaos being a ladder is just SO epic, and the perfect monologue to explain his psychology. Him giving that poor girl to Joffrey to use for target practice is heartbreaking though, because she was actually a really sweet, kind and intelligent woman, and I liked her. Oh well.... guess it shouldn't be a surprise that her being a double agent wasn't going to end well. And him screwing over poor Sansa by revealing the Varys/Tyrell plan for her to be married to Loras was heartbreaking. How are you feeling about the two arranged Lannister marriages? Do you like either of the pairings (Tyrion/Sansa and Loras/Cersei)? What are your predictions for the future of these two pairings, their weddings, and their life as husband and wife?
Love you guys, I really look forward to your reactions. Steven breaks down everything in a perfect way, and Nikki's emotional reactions are awesome. Wish I could just time travel to the future and watch all your reactions.
Also sorry for double comment, still watching while typing. In the books Ygritte calls Jon "Jon Snow" every time because the Wildlings have no family name. Tormund is "Tormund Giantsbane" because Giantsbane is just a nickname, a monicker, not an actual family name. Ygritte is pretty literally her name, just Ygritte, nothing else. But to her, Jon is "Jon Snow". That's also how you can tell Mance Rayder is originally a Night's Watch member.
I love how this video starts with Steven giving an intelligent, thoughtful talk on how Jaime is becoming more sympathetic, and then midway he finally starts feeling sorry for Theon. One GoT meme I'm fond of states, "There was once a time..." below the caption shows Jaime, Theon, and others "We hated these characters."
I was about to close my browser and go to bed early (9pm here in Aus) after running out of things to watch. Omg, I'm so glad I decided to do one last refresh :D
Wow! I've been so impressed with Steven with the breakdowns at the start of this video and the latest \W/ video. It's like Nikki takes over his body for 2 minutes to give a masterclass on character development.
Excellent intro. You guys are definitely grasping the "grey area" I mentioned on a previous video. When the motivations behind a character's action are really revealed, you see that they're not 100% good or 100% bad. That said, there are a few characters in this show that ARE 100% bad. And some that try to be 100% good.
This show just gets better! I LOVE the way you break things down! There is chaos e everywhere in this episode and you don't see it until Little Finger delivers that AMAZING monologue. He's creepy af, but he's so good! Great reaction!! Keep it up!!
Jamie joining the kings guard was more complicated. Mad king wanted to stick it to tywin and cersei wanted Jamie to join so they could be together because she thought she was marrying Prince Rheagar.
Impressed with the breakdown you all gave using the wrestling metaphor. I've been a student of story structure for many a year and never knew wrestling had terms for narrative.
"Chaos is a ladder" Indeed it is. That is all. Another great reaction. You make it hard to not spill the beans and that's why your reactions are so good.
Steven totally broke down the steps for character redemption! 😂😂 I don't watch wrestling but totally enjoyed the analogy. Hope you guys are safe and away from fires. Don't know where you are in .CA, but they're everywhere on the West Coast 😣😔😭😭
nEthing4Her I'm in So Oregon. And it is Crazy here. Spending all my extra time helping with all the evacuated animals. It's heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time. Sad they have no where to go... Beautiful how my community is stepping up and helping. 👌❤
Nikki I second your opinion about that intro! I thought it was a perfect breakdown of the Ep 3x05, the wrestling reference was spot on!! Another great reactions guys, just love em!! :D ty for all your hard work getting these out every single day!!
As had been said "Chaos is a ladder" is the most Shakespearean moment in the history of GOT and therefore, the history of dramatic TV. Also, "If you think this has a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention", and "The Lysa Arryn of chairs". Brilliant.
The "chaos is a ladder" speech is one of the best monologues in the show. It also perfectly sums up everything you need to know about Little Finger and encapsulates really how this show works.
All the characters are so interesting its amazing. So much head butting in this episode and it's all good (Theon vs torturer psycho, Little Finger vs Varys, Olenna vs Tywin )
She's so Boss, her and Tywin --- especially when BOTH TOGETHER. Lady Olenna, the only bitch in Westeros who can get away with breaking Tywins quill. Can't see Joffrey breaking Tywin's quill. He'd kill him with a stare.
Y’all are on 🔥! Loving how Invested in the show you guys are getting; your engagement level has increased drastically over the course of the series. You have obviously been bitten by the bug. Welcome to the club! 😀 Props to Steve for the insightful breakdown on Jamie’s development. You hit the nail on the head, man.
@23:30: keep digging... you’re asking yourselves the right questions. And yes, as Steve pointed, the mystery man torturing Theon was the hornblower Theon wanted to kill when Winterfell was besieged 😄
CC Ispahan75 - well, we don't know that for certain - but we can surmise...one of those "use your intelligence" over one of those "I'm dumb as f*ck but I read the books and can't wait to show off what I know" points...🙄
Neil Griffiths this is the second coment thread ive seen where you're going off about people who read the books. Just shut the fuck up. YOU are the one showing off acting like you're better than everyone else who read the books.
Neil Griffiths dude youre starting to be pretty annoying around here.... noone but you is offended by people who read the books. this comment has nothing to do with the books anyway. it's just common sense that he was the horn blower. sounds exactly like it and the story comes full circle with him saying he was going to kill the horn blower and there he is being tortured by the guy. furthermore... Nikki sounded very confident she was right anyway...
People are like "Chaos is a ladder" is the best line and I'm sitting her dying over Olena's "Sword swallower through and through" comment lmaooo
lol right?!?!?!? - Nikki
''If you think this has a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.'' - Game of thrones, ladies and gentlemen.
Aleksandra Rasic that quote is like "game of thrones in a nutshell"
one of my favorite quotes of the entire series. makes me wonder about the ending of the shows fate 😣

I got goosebumps just from reading this quote
It's like Little finger's own nights watch vow.
Arguably the best monologue in the entire cannon, and the show did it full justice. Great stuff!
Man I love the books!
Olenna says things with no regard for the consequences because she’s lived her life already. She’s done the things she needed to do so now she’s just living her best life speaking her mind and snatching everyone’s wig

He got a buddy in the GoT prop department to loan him one of their severed heads and placed it in their fridge for Rose to find later. Lesson learned, don't get into a prank war with an actor on a television show with graphic violence. They have access to a lot more resources than what would be considered reasonable.
DarkLight523
It was Kit's head though wasn't it? From Gunpowder? Which of course is even worse, she opened the fridge and saw Kit's head there all bloody and everything 😂 www.express.co.uk/showbiz/tv-radio/875718/Gunpowder-viewers-MORTIFIED-Kit-Harington-severed-head-scenes-Game-of-Thrones
Darklight523 - *By the way, if Nikki and Steven don't know - Jon Snow and Ygritte are real life lovers...
They mention during their reaction that they know Kit and Rose are married.
Ah- ta, lol! :)
Hurrah for Rose! - Bet Kit caught it good and proper afterwards... :)
They'll be more prepared for it now thanks to your comment, cheers
except they already know it,have commented on it and are halfway through the story already. they're not idiots. Did you not pay attention to what they were saying at the top of the video? Mine was a totally generic,non-specific comment on all the characters of the story. I only agreed with what they saying.
I don't remember them saying anything about how unpredictable characters are, just sounded like you're encouraging them to keep their eyes open for it.
by now, if you hadn't figured that much out, you've not been paying attention.
People keep saying there are no totally evil characters and I so disagree. Craster, for one.
Nudity wouldn't have removed any of her dignity. If anything...it would have enhanced it.
That breakdown was priceless, Steven! Way to go, man! Is like that time when you told your friend "No, power is power"! You can tell Nikki is so proud
Two of the better quotes in all of GOT. Chaos is a ladder.. and If you think this has a happy ending you haven't been paying attention. Great episode.
Thank you so much Laura! - Nikki
man rewatching this whole serires makes u see stuff that only makes sense in the later seasons and i love it
Tywin and Olenna absolutely have some of the best dialogue in the whole show.
Paul Wagner
It is known it was a real deer he looked like a pro doing it
Paul Wagner - what I want to know, is whether the crew got venison steaks for dinner that night... ;)
There's a reason they call Lady Olenna the Queen of Thorns 😉. Loving these reaction videos!
Tywin and Olenna are probably the most powerful people in the Seven Kingdoms!!
Jaime is called "the man without honor" for doing the most honorable thing in his life. (saving thousands of people from burning alive)
I'm super impressed by the whole breakdown too. I put a like before even watch the reaction.
Great Breakdown. Perfectly summarized Jamie's journey.
I love Littlefinger’s speech at the end
I have never heard an explanation of professional wrestling in such an intelligent manner. Way to go Steve!
thank you!!! it was a lot of fun
Such a good episode. Lady olenna kills me "he's a sword swallower thru and thru" 😂 she's so savage. One of my favorite characters.
I stop doing everything once you guys post something
I'm not sure how this became a part of my morning routine, but here we are.
Michael Navarro right?? I need sleep.
Yup, soon as that notification pop up, it gets clicked on. When they didn't post for a couple days I lost sleep hitting refresh...
#truth
Hope you aren't an air traffic controller. I gotta fly tomorrow....
Olenna vs Tywin. SUCH. PURE. DELIGHT. Diana Rigg vs Charles Dance. They should have a show together discussing life.
Zefram Cochrane
You can comment as many as you like as long as it doesn't contain a spoiler or any indications of what to expect later on .
Nikki & Steven React...Impressive opening and closing dialog. Y'all sounded almost like GoTs reactor, Trevel The Critic
the liking jamie rollercoaster xD
I love how this video starts with Steven giving an intelligent, thoughtful talk on how Jaime is becoming more sympathetic, and then midway he finally starts feeling sorry for Theon.
One GoT meme I'm fond of states, "There was once a time..."
below the caption shows Jaime, Theon, and others
"We hated these characters."
I was about to close my browser and go to bed early (9pm here in Aus) after running out of things to watch. Omg, I'm so glad I decided to do one last refresh :D
This is one of my favorite episodes this season. The chaos is a ladder speech is really good :D
Guys really loved your comments before and after the reaction! Bravo 👏🏻
Brilliant episode indeed :)
Yeah, some of the best storytelling is done is pro wrestling... when done right, it's super simple and a perfect story of good guy vs. bag guy.
Great breakdown! You guys have shot up to the top of my list of reactors. Well done and well edited...
Thank you!! - Nikki
"Chaos is a ladder"
Indeed it is.
That is all.
Another great reaction. You make it hard to not spill the beans and that's why your reactions are so good.
Steven totally broke down the steps for character redemption! 😂😂
I don't watch wrestling but totally enjoyed the analogy.
Hope you guys are safe and away from fires. Don't know where you are in .CA, but they're everywhere on the West Coast 😣😔😭😭
Thank you Stephanie... yeah, we are safe from the fires. It's so crazy and scary out there right now.
Yeah I'm near Riverside. The closest to me is the one called the Holy Fire. Keep safe, Nikki and Steven - and all my other neighbors here.
nEthing4Her I'm in So Oregon.
I think when I first saw this episode I didn't remember anything after seeing Ros shot full of arrows...man...
As had been said "Chaos is a ladder" is the most Shakespearean moment in the history of GOT and therefore, the history of dramatic TV. Also, "If you think this has a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention", and "The Lysa Arryn of chairs". Brilliant.
2:01 I agree. Applause for Steven! hehe seriously it could be a road to redemption or not :P we will see but interesting how you put it.
The "chaos is a ladder" speech is one of the best monologues in the show. It also perfectly sums up everything you need to know about Little Finger and encapsulates really how this show works.
When you said "Bran is smart" @ 6:26 you totally sounded Irish!
yes nikki steves breakdown of kingslayer was just brilliant
If you think this has a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention!...The horn blower guy.
very good line i uses it as often as i can
All the characters are so interesting its amazing. So much head butting in this episode and it's all good (Theon vs torturer psycho, Little Finger vs Varys, Olenna vs Tywin )
Lady Olenna is my favorite character from the show.
I love to play the guessing game of "What part of the episode are Nikki and Steven reacting to in the opening outtake of their reaction?" :D
How funny, I never caught that Ramsey was the one with the horn that Theon was so pissed at until Steven called it out.
Neil Griffiths Chill out. You’re getting all worked up. You don’t like to read? Fine. Don’t piss others who do off.
CC Isphan75 Love to read. Hate bigmouths.
Been binge watching all your GoT reactions today and having a blast. Great job guys. Its like introducing the show to some new friends.
Always starting my day with good quality content 👌👏💙💙💙 THE BEST.
Awesome break down on Jamie, Steven. Keep up the great work you two!
"Chaos is a ladder."
CHILLSSSSSSS
Steven, your wrestling analogy is spot on. Love love love this episode. "Chaos is a ladder"
Great reaction!! Awesome episode...Steven I understand your wrestling terminology. This show gets better and better!!👍👍
OMG!! guys, i loved the recap and the wrestling analogy… you did awesome, that was so much on point. I'm freaking impressed!! love from Chile.
Un chileno! Weeeeenaaaa! :)
