I promised myself I'd go back to the start of 31 baby steps and make the control journal...last week 😏 anyway, I found this video tonight and you made me chuckle saying "you're just sitting there, aren't you?" So I actually went into my office (junk room i.e. room rescue project) and found a file, some plastic sleeves and old headed paper from work, and started! Yay, go me 🙌
In my control journal I have a green section titled Thanksgiving and a red one for Christmas. In it I have all the recipes I make for each holiday in one place. It makes it so easy for me to turn to it, pull out recipes in their sheet protectors so they don't get dirty ( just wipe off splatters) and after they're done I put the recipes back in their home. I also have a packing list of things we use when we travel in our camper. Next I want to make a directory for phone numbers. Enjoy your videos a lot! Thank you from the US.
T.A.R.D.I.S. Tasks And Reminders Done In Style
LOL!!!
Like your name!
Yassssssss! Winner! 🎉 Totally just named mine this!
Thank you very much Diane for your great support, you are a sweet person 👍👍❤❤🌹🌹🧡🧡
You were right, I was just sitting there and watching the video... but after watching the whole thing and seeing how EASY you made it- I've made my control journal!! :) The hardest part was limiting my morning routine to 3 items, for now. Baby steps. Thanks Diane!! You rock
Hello Dianne, I have started the baby staps...and sinds a few days when I'm having trubble to get started...I hear you saying "get of your "behouky".
It helps me so much to hold a grip of my house. I have health problems and I want to stay independent as long as possible
Welcome here, Wilma!
If you do not have protection sheets on hand you can use clear sticky tape on the part of the paper where you tick off what you have accomplished
My schedule for the next three months has changed, so I need to reset and refine my routines. This video has come along at just the right moment to help and encourage me in the process!
Yeah!!! I love my Clever-Book - and the daily To-Do-Lists which I eventually have made.
Last week and this week I am not working; I'm at home (sick, but feel much better now). Every day I did my routines, and did 15 minutes zone-cleaning - and all looks so well! And guess what happens already last week... I looked around and thougt abaout what I could do - and there was nothing! All cleaning done! No laundry, no things to put away!
This week I startet with decluttering my cross-stitch-"equipment" - Woo-hoo! Little by little it gets done!

Don't spend any time making it pretty at first, because you will be adding to it, and adjusting it until it develops into the perfect routine for you and your home. When you stop adjusting it often, then you can make it pretty at that time. Also, I had read a comment somewhere to use WET erase markers instead of DRY erase. I didn't even know there was such a thing, but I found some, and I do like them better, the dry erase was smearing, erasing, and getting on the other page when I closed the binder too soon. This is a great time of year to find supplies. - Pat, a FlyBaby since March.
Thank you Diane for breaking down the Flylady system to make it so simple and easy to implement in my daily life. I'm 55 and still learning. Never too old to learn new things!!
Thanks Diane for all you do! I call my control journal "One Book to Rule Them All." Lol
I’m going to make mine today at an oil change appointment while I wait. Have my bag packed and ready with the basics you suggested in this video. I’m going to call it “Be Fruitful” !
I think Flylady calls it a Control Journal to refer to the instruction reminder checklist airplane pilots use before they take off. It is very easy to forget steps if we assume that we or someone else did them automatically. This was happening on planes, so they required a pre-flight checklist to prevent it.
The Control Journal allows us to preview and review so we remember to do the important things in our households. It helps us to STOP assuming we CAN and SHOULD remember everything. This can be a first step to ending SHHH! thoughts. LOL.
Hi! I came across Fly Lady 2 weeks ago, watched many videos, got the book from the library(read it in less then a week). Just started my control journal. I found a peel and stick coloring page for binders that says “think happy thoughts” well I decided to make that my cover!
I am decluttering & setting the timer to complete tasks! I actually have always used a timer ⏱ Thank you for your help!
I've just started making my control journal and he's called J.A.R.V.I.S. 😎 Tony Stark would definitely approve ❤️💛
6:00... That's exactly what I DID do. And why I've failed. Thank you Diane! I'm restarting again, right this time, and fluttering! 😀
Ah thanks so much Diane, this video could not have come at better time. I have been following flylady system since January, part way through your 31 babysteps. I made a good start with journal but never finished it.
I went back at the weekend and listened to 31 baby steps when I was declutter guest room ( it's been on long finger for some time
I dug out my control journal again and thought I will go and work on it this week !! Can't believe you have reminded me !!! and as always your encouragement knows no bounds.
THANKS .... you know us flybabies so well or else you are reading my mind 🤗🤗🤗
Binders become magnets of clutter for me, so I wrote all my routines down on three different pieces of colored cardstock (paper would do!) for morning, afternoon, and evening, the put them on clipboards and hung them on a wall. Easier to reference for me, and no extra Hot Spot.
If you would like a more detailed look at how to build a Flylady Control Journal, my Control Journal playlist is here. Have fun! ua-cam.com/play/PLxIYCyTLBED9sZBtZ2s_TIR1T6K2ZHZbY.html
Diane in Denmark thank you Diane, you are a treasure, I've worked through the 31 baby steps, weekly home blessings, swishing and swiping and life is so much better because of you x
love light and blessings
Yay, I'm so glad that the system is working for you, Elaine!
Too funny, I, literally, only have the pen. I make my to do lists and grocery lists on the napkin I used for breakfast or the back of a junk mail envelope and carry a tiny 2x3 pad in my purse. My son is 29, any of his leftover school supplies are long gone. Needless to say I bought loose leaf paper and a binder at Wal-Mart when I was getting dog food. I had to laugh at myself on this one.
Thank you so much for this easy start. I wanted to make it perfect. Thats why I couldn't get started befor. No I have my control journal - in less than 15 min..
Yay, go you! 🎉👏😃
❣Hi Diane, thank you for cheering me up dear cheerleader. .it was a difficult beginning of the day today. I had a fourth reaction yesterday, when I saw your video: Oh, I'll watch that tomorrow, i know what she's up to:-))... and tomorrow is today, so I just watched around during your intro, found a green binder, very lovely, though dusty;-), not too big, a green pen, paper and these plastic bags...I used this binder for my ' healing songs' I learned in a course, but it was too big for that and now empty. I rarely have to change something , now it's 'healing home' = HH. And the colour green is for hope. And congrats to having such a caring daughter! 1000 tak, Monika❣
I have everything ready. I just need to assemble it. I am enjoying thinking about the name although I imagine it will change as I grow. I am so happy to have found you and the Flylady! Thank you for sharing your guidance and cheer!!!! It really helps me feel encouraged.
I took an online class once that said to call your planner your personal assistant and give her a name. My control journal will now be referred to as my housekeeper, Jeeves. Love PGW!
Yay, great idea, Cynthia! We all love Jeeves and Bertie!
This is so cute and cleaver
I call mine "My Brain" because in it are ALL the things I USED TO have to remember! Thanks for your videos: they keep me encouraged!
I was thinking this too. I have so much space in my real brain now that the paper brain keeps track of everything else.
Thank you. So simple, practical yet effective!
I am going to rename my control journal Flying to Freedom journal. I think that was a great suggestion you made.
This video came at the perfect time. I was just at the store yesterday getting a new binder for the upcoming school year. While there I got myself one as a pamper item. I can't wait to put it together! 🤗
I don't have a clever name for my binder. I just call it my "Home Binder". I keep my routines, my homemade cleaner recipes, birthday lists, coupons that come in the mail...etc. I watched a flylady video once about controlling paper clutter and she suggested putting items that require action somewhere right as you receive them from the mail. I slip my action papers into the pocket inside my home binder and then go through them on my desk day. I keep my home binder right next to my recipe binder beside my microwave.
Wow it sounds like you were looking in my kitchen and in my little binder, I had purchased a daily planner years ago and never made it work, but it had the cutest zippered case with it so I held onto it. Mine is filled very similar to yours. It now makes sense when it was just to overwhelming before!
Great idea to put the homemade cleaning recipes in!!
I like the name "Control Journal". I used to feel bad that I tried to organize and "control" my life. I was afraid that I was "too controlling". I would bend over backward to say things like "I am creating order", or "I am allowing the perfect form for this home to manifest". I eventually realized that people who complain that I am trying to control things are just lazy and don't want to take responsibility for making their lives work. My Ego is not completely useless, and I can use it to create workable structures in my life. Also, if my journal is doing the controlling, I am free to arrive to my life from a deeper truer place than my mind. The journal is MY tool, I am not its tool.
Thank you so much for doing these videos. Most of all, thanks for your encouragement and example. Much appreciated.
“I’ve got my coffee and my cup, so there’s nothing to worry about”
coffee is life ☕️☕️☕️☕️
I guess I'll call it "CJ", not very clever! When I found your videos in February I started a CJ & I wasn't sure how I would like it but over time I have come to really love it! I started out with the basics and have gradually added to it over time. I've added a page of what needs to be done for "Guests" so I have a check list to prepare: it's short & sweet :) Having the phone numbers & other information that FlyLady recommends has been very helpful. Have a great day Diane!
I haven't built a paper control journal. I use her app and mark things off as I go each day. It's super helpful.
I've called mine my house and life journal.
funny thing when i started a few days ago with flylady, i already had one started.but was a 'command center' notebook(which the word command always felt weird to say). works better as a journal though lol.
i love how its you taking control of your life instead of life taking control of you ;)
I love your coffee mug! Thank you for this guide. I have been flying for a long time but still struggle with the journal. Perfectionism perhaps? Thanks again.
I would love to have that one in a mini binder pages. Great control journal!
Calling Mine “ The Happy Home”
Wow, what a lovely daughter... helping you around the house. Just wondering, does your family love watching your videos as much as we do? 😁
I have included most of it in my BuJo so I don't have too many places to look. I tend to forget then or get overwhelmed if I have more than one to do list
I definitely did the thing where I put too many things on my routines list. Got too excited. Getting back into it, but man it’s tough to try to go slow.
Hello Flylady Diane, I have a Controll Journal with my Routines and other things, but for the day I write every evening a Sheet (Todo) with my Morning my afternoon and my Evening Routines, and what I have to do. I am so glad that again videos of you come, during your vacation, I missed your videos extremely, I've looked at old videos, so I find the motivation. THANK YOU SO MUCH for your Videos and the time you invest in our.
Oh yes, Tomorrow a declutter video, is fantastic I also stand still, my Problem is, I want to go in my Vacation on a loppemarked to sell, -but we dont go -, I have many things in basement (cellar) from my Grandmothers home, that is very good and cost a much....I know, but we have not so much money and its horrible for me when I know i can get money for this things, to give it in the Trash !!! I have nobody i can give a gift from this things. Maybe you can add a tip tomorrow, how I handle that?!? Thank you
Cinderella Book!
if you don't have sheet protectors, but do have clear packing tape, a quick, cheap alternative to sheet protectors that you can do right now is 'laminate' the paper with the tape, and then you can dry erase over the tape. It actually works pretty well.
of course you have to have dry erase markers. ;P
Kit DuBhran one of the purposes of the sheet protectors is the same. If you have shiny ones, use them now to hold the paper. Later buy the Non-SHINY ones so the ink will wipe off better.
I've always called mine my Home Management Binder :)
Yay, I can't wait my dad is taking me out to dinner tonight!! I just use a folder not a binder.
Never thought of renaming my control jounal. Hmm, maybe I'll call it my "Flight Plan".
Charlotte VB Clever! I love it!
I did. LOL. And of course it has sections called Take Off, Mid-Air and Landing.
@@lisbetsoda4874 clever... Love it!
'Household binder' is how I call my control journal and apart from cleaning routines it contains the family's health obligations per year, our passwords, our home projects plan, our travel plans, bills to pay, school documents .....
My control journal is the "To Do Que". Thanks for your video!
Pressed send too soon! Sorry - I can see that it would be useful for phone numbers and birthdays, but both of those are in my phone/electronic calendar. So, I wonder if there is extra benefit from a paper copy? I am thinking it would be useful if my ohine died, or was out of charge or maybe it will just be nice to have? I don't know why I am resisting this step! Love your videos. Very very helpful. So pleased you are going to do decluttering too - my bête noire!

I'm just still going to call mine the Control Journal because I need it to help me gain control. The name is fine. I'm trying not to over-think it.
Hi Diane. I enjoy using the app everyday for my routines - will I /should I start a control journal?
Mine is called: Mom's Brain! It has everything I need to run my house...Ok, it is a 3 inch binder!
I call mine The Manual of McLaughlin Manor. 😅
I call mine “The Domestic Diva’s Guidebook”.
I want to call mine Micromanager, because I need micromanaging. I realised that having every task spelled out for me frees me from having to make decisions with what to do with myself.
Chaos Cutter!
I just discovered this system yesterday and am really enjoying your videos. You can quit reading my mind anytime now! UGH! You're good! I wish I could afford to sign up for Premium. I think you would be a good fit for me. :(
BTW, I'm thrilled to see that you're a Whovian!
Mine is ( Keeping my Sanity) ,,,, lol
I have just start reading about the Flylady System. I don’t mind the getting dressed bit but I cannot stand wearing shoes inside.
I was the same, for months. But now i have a pair of really comfy shoes which don't leave the house for winter, and a pair of thongs(flip flops) for summer. And slippers, for when it's all done.
Here's my name for the journal--Lainey's Brain. It does the thinking for me. : )
I thought, YAY!!!!
I am doing shift work, I don't have so called morning routine, night routine, odd working hours how FLYLADY can help
Hi Kelly! You are not alone! I talk about routines when you are working shifts/looking after babies/have health problems during the series we did on Routines. Hope you'll find some ideas and inspiration there! ua-cam.com/play/PLxIYCyTLBED_jlyESS5EQKSbtoTCRK_8f.html
I also do shift work. I have wake up and bedtime routines.
@@nancynurse4552 Yes, I was going to say 'on waking' and 'before bed'!
The Book of Many Things........
I like to think of my as my TARDIS.
dear Diane, would you also be able to record the video s slightly louder? It's nice to do something about it, but I can not understand it, even with a small sound box.Have a nice day!Petra from Holland 💐
+Petra Petranell Hi Petra! Check the UA-cam video settings, there is a volume control button underneath the video on the left-hand side and the default is sometimes set to low. Hope that helps!
I'll call mine "The Flight Plan."
Can I use the FlyLady app instead of this control journal?
Hi Jasmine! Sure, use whatever you like. I like to use a mix.
The dress to shoes thing...
We never wear shoes in the house.
Hi Paula! We never wear shoes in the house either. In Denmark people (including guests and tradesmen) remove their shoes at the door. I don't know if you've watched my other videos but the shoes I wear inside are ONLY for inside (indoor sports shoes which give me good support).
I go barefooted......
Hi Diane.......My Happy Daily Routine Guide!☕
I usually go barefoot but have slip on shoes for the basement or out in the yard.
